Title: 'Nother question?
Post by: dmouse on May 02, 2010, 05:28:09 PM
It started about 2 weeks ago, and comes and goes, but this last week it's more constant... do any of you get stabbing pains in your parotid glands? At least I think it's them... right above the 'L' of my jaw... At first it was just the right side, really sharp stabbing, lasted about 10 minutes then went away for a day or two. When it came back, it was shorter and milder. But now, it's in both. Still milder then that first night with only an occasional sharp jab, but like I said, it's more constant...

I'm 43, nearing 44 and wondering if I'm reaching that magical age where I may finally get a diagnosis...

Thanks in advance!

Have you asked your dentist about this?

My first thought was TMJ....but its just off the top of my head.....and just a guess!

Hi dmouse,

I'm not saying that you have it or anything like that (just my humble little old opinion), but I have TMJ, and the pain of the nerve can be excruciating.    I've had "attacks" so often that parts of my face (where the nerve runs) is numb.  I still get them now and then, but thankfully their not nearly as bad.

Lynnmarie has a good point, have you been able to speak to your dentist or primary about it?

Hang in there, and I hope that you feel better soon.

Take care of yourself -

Patze

I had recently few times the same pain on the same place. I also have every day funny pulsing in my left ear, it is not painful it is just little bit annoying.   I thought something is wrong with my ear, then I realised it may be neuropathy.

I just have no strength to see another specialist for this problem, yet? :)

Thanks for the input. I have not been to see a dentist since I got dentures in 2003. I was thinking it's more trimengeal neuralgia because I've been getting pinching sensations in my face for a few years now and I do have neuropathy. My last rheumatologist claimed it was just because of excess collagen pinching nerves caused by the sclero I DON'T have. I stopped seeing her in 2005 when a scleroderma specialist from Cleveland Clinic told me I definatley did not have it.

The Cleve Clinic office close to my work has a Rheumatology and Immunology Department that I'm going to try and get into. I just need to get referred by my primary and I can't get in to him unless it's medically necessary or it's not paid for. I'm just gathering as much info as I can to present to him when I can get in. He's really good at referring me when it's outside his scope of practice.

Thanks again all!
