Title: What's the highest positive ANA that you've had
Post by: kellyptyler on April 24, 2010, 01:11:01 PM

Apparently my lab measures differently from yours:  Letter from Rheumy (Feb. 2010)
"The repeat of your antinuclear antibody was once again high concentration positive.  Strongly positive is considered greater than 6 and your value is 10.5."

Kelly,

Do you know how 10.5 would compare to 1:1280?  All I can tell you is this number (for me) was 6 two years ago and 8 last year and I'm indeed more ill now than I was then.

I have high positive Sjogren's A antibodies and borderline/negative Sjogren's B.

Sending you wishes for answers and avenues to wellness!
Janna

Mine has been tested two times...both of them coming out 1:640 which is one level below yours.

This test gets documented in increments that are doubled as it is titrated to show how much the blood can be diluted before the antibody can no longer be detected.

For example ( I think these are the right numbers)....1:80, 1:160, 1:320, 1:640, 1:1280 with the higher titers being positive.

Mine was also 1:640, don't know what that means or what any of the other test mean. ??? ??? ???

In 1999 when my PCP sent me to the Rheumy thinking I might have Lupus my ANA was 1:2560.  The Rheumy said I didn't have Lupus.  End of story.

Fast forward ten years to 2009 and I'm sent back to the Rheumy with an ANA once again of 1:2560 as the dry eyes and mouth kick into high gear, I get a positive Primary Sjogren's Diagnose.

Mine has been tested several times.  It was 1:1280 the first time then 1:640 and a few negatives sprinkled in.  The pattern is homogenous which is typical for Lupus, but I don't meet the criteria.  That's why the rheumy dx Sjs even though the SSA, SSB and all else was negative (except thyroid AB's). ::)

Janna,
You must be right about the labs testing differently.  My lab says <40 is normal and mine was 10240 with no colons in that figure.  No one did an SS-A or SS-B yet...what ever they might mean.

My last blood work said my ANA index value was 17.05 H the reference range was <=10.00 not sure what any of that means but the rheumatologist said it is high.

Mine is >1:1280, for ANA.  ENA is negative.  I stay very high, have for years....dropped to 640 a bit....mostly 1280 speckled/nucleolar.....or 640 only nucleolar.

On ANA Elisa, I was 2.57, cut off for + was 0.9, which meant I was extremely +.  ANA Elisa is very accurate, but not specific.  They can't seem to find the specific autoantibody.  I have severe neuropathy with my + ANA.

I meet ALL SjS criteria full blown, but, for blood work, so, I don't know what I have, really.  I am freaking sick, that is all I can say....disabled from this....looks and feels like MS, with all the accoutraments of autoimmune disease to boot.

I need a prosthetic body or a zombie body....any ideas any one?

Sorry folks, you know that there had to be someone to rain on the "topic"  ;) :D!  Nope, never had a positive ANA or anything for that matter, sad, but true. ;D

Oh, one more thing, some labs do not dilute over 1:1,280.  In my area, no one goes past that....they tell me that is high enough.

Also they don't like to keep doing them, once you have an established diagnosis and high ANA on a few tests they don't seem to need more ANAs other than with an ENA, to try to find a specific autoantibody, which on me they can't find.

1:1280 since 2007. I get it tested about once a year.

Do all you asks for copies of your blood work from your doctors?  And would it be out of line to ask for it?

I always ask for a copy and it's never a problem.  My GP's office will even fax it to me.

Hi Reanne,

A lot of us keep copies for our records.  I do because most of my doctors don't talk to each other, and it keeps duplication down.

oh my gosh, I get all my labs and test results from every single doctor I see, and I keep the most recent in a large file in case I have to go
see another doctor or to the ER. I dont count on my doctors to fax to the others either...I make sure I have all my records myself..really helps.

My lab work is all available to me on line and I imagine I can print it off as needed.  Haven't been outside of my primary care phys but would think as long as the specialists are 'in house' those results would be found in the same place.   :-\
Anyone else deal thru Geisinger?

1:160 homogenous pattern and then a few weeks later 1:160 speckled.  I was dxed with SLE, secondary Sjogren's, Raynaud's and gastroparesis.

This morning, I feel fortunate to be on the right side of the grass, but that's not always the case :)

Jumping on this thread a little late, but trying to read up and educate without asking repeat questions. My first positive ANA (by EIA) was in 2005 at 3.0, but subsequent values have maintained at 1.7. Reference Low: <1.5 OD Ratio. I've never been told if there was a pattern and they still have no clue what my Autoimmune is...

I've never been told if my has a pattern either.  I have a copy of the lab report and it doesn't say anything about it as far as I can tell.  Maybe it's reported using some sort of code?

I always ask for a copy of my labs for my own records but I can't find my last ANA to find the results (I'm a terrible filer).  I'll probably be having follow-up work done on my next rheumy appointment next month, so I'll know the results then.

Now if an ANA ever came up positive for me, it would be purple spotted with orange stripes I tell ya! ;) :D
