Happy March 1st!!! ;D Getting closer and closer to Spring!! Yay!!
Today I took the last of the Christmas holiday decorations to the basement and brought up all the "Springy" stuff - silk daffodils, forsythia branches, colorful plastic eggs, ceramic bunnies. I love all the red colors of Christmas decorations (red is one of my favorite colors - I look good wearing it too . . hehe) - but it's nice to have all the pastel colors and yellows out now. I love Spring!! ;D
We are going to warm up temperature wise this week (mid 40's) and I can already see some bare grass in some spots of the snow . . . sorry Pooh, Patze, Harlin and others who won't see the grass for a while yet. Maybe by the 4th of July you too will see grass. ::)
Our March has arrived like a sweet lamb . . . hoping it doesn't go out like a fierce lion!! ::)
March 14th Daylight Savings Time goes into effect . . . yay . . I love the longer sunny days. ;D 8)
Have a great March!!!
Bucky
I love Springtime too, it's my favorite! Just seems like everything in nature comes to life, even humans!
I hope this year to get many things planted even if I have to pay someone
Our weather here is pretty good too, it goes from Springtime to somewhat cool, today is a cooler day in the 40s, but you can still feel Spring in the air!
I LOVE IT!
Ohhhh myyyyy.....March 1st....we will be in Spring in no time!
I cant wait for the time change either Bucky...that's just the best....longer days make all the difference in peoples moods I think. It gets people out of the house after work/school which cant be a bad thing for anyone....we all need to blow this long winter stink off!! ;D
I'm with y'all!!! Spring is my second favorite season (winter is usually the top dog for me, except this year. At forty plus inches, I'm over winter already!! ;) :D). Aaaahhhhhhhh, can't wait for the touch of the first warm wind across my balcony!
Patze
Our week in Yorkshire started with snow, and it's been cold during the nights too. However, by 9 am. the sun has been shining evey day. It's been wonderful. I love the spring.

Gosh... missed out on this wonderful thread. Speaking of thread, watched the robin this a.m. gathering up dry grass and then some damp soil and flying toward front of our home. Finished eating breakfast...
And, positioned myself up at front window to watch, and yes, our pair of robins are building-as they have for several yrs.- in the Japanese maple close the front walk.
Just trusting these two have the nesting 'feeling' for more than one reason...
They sure are having fun chasing after each other while working! ;)
Hope they are right; warmer weather, bring it on! :)
We had a heavy frost this morning, but the sun has been shining constantly since I got up. When I'm in he conservatory, I could almost imagine I'm in a warm climate - open the door though, and reality hits!

Good morning . . . .
This morning we awoke to heavy fog. As I was walking by the bedroom window I could hear this commotion from hundreds of birds perched in the trees in our front yard. It reminded me of the Alfred Hitchcock film - The Birds. They were carrying on and all chattering at the same time. I'm not sure what kind of birds these were, but they all looked the same. Then a group left the trees, did their aerial ballet and landed in our corn field. Soon, more birds did the same thing - group by group until the trees were bare of birds and they were spread out in the field. Their flight had such rhythmic movement, up and down - everyone in perfect rhythm - it was so pretty to watch. I had to get my son up and moving for school so I didn't get to see how long they stayed in the field. They were quite noisy out there as I could hear them in another part of the house.
Yes, I think spring is right around the corner . . . the birds are returning from their winter pilgrimage. Welcome back birdies. ;D
Have a great week everyone. :D
Bucky
Here in Cornwall we have had nearly a week of blue skies and sunshine, but a bitter, bitter wind. Still - walked by the sea yesterday and the cold fresh air lifted my spirits a bit. We have a pheasant in full mating plumage coming on the terrace to eat bird food and the magnolia in the middle of my lawn is covered in large furry flower buds. Won't be long! The snow drops look fantastic and the daffodils are just opening - yep Bucky, I think you are right, Spring is definitely just around the corner.

TWELVE DAYS UNTIL SRING AND COUNTING!!!!!!! :D In East TN its a beautiful, warm, sunny day with sky full of fluffy white cumulus clouds... though find myself with a sadness and I know what brought it 'to a head.' And, that's half the battle with depression...being able to know the WHY???
FOR BUCKY, the birds in your trees were more than likely Starlings. These birds, if memory serves me right, we imported from Europe to eat some type insect, you know, 'bugs!' And, now they are too abundant with their tendency to travel in droves and are not taken as sought after bird-neighbors by farmers in our area. They can pull up newly planted corn faster than it can be planted. In addition, Starlings are as smart as any crow ever thought of being! What crop was in the field next to your home last year?
Joe S. says take some deep breaths and relax. Joy's going to deep breathe and nap. And, listen for hubby to come with tractor and plow our (really his any more) veggie garden... Now find myself sad again... All this autoimmune stuff sucks as it has now made me into a shade-tree farmer's wife instead of the tractor operator. Life is full of its little ups and downs...right? ???
Enough said... if you've gotten this far reading THANKS, in the 'back of my mind', I'm really venting, as I'm a master of disguise. How many of you understand where I'm coming from with this previous statement? Believe me, being a MOD just creates more 'hills to climb' in one's life. The one day at a time approach has greatly helped in my sixty-seven years at living a purposeful life.
Be interesting to see how many folks I slipped this vent by, marching in like a lamb. :-\
Sincerely written with each of you in mind, as so often, you are the bright spot in my life. J :-* Y
Joy,
There was corn planted in the field last year. It should be soybeans this year once they plant it - it will be a while yet.
Wow, you can already plant a vegetable garden this early? We wouldn't be able to plant one for another month or so (if I was to plant one, which I don't . . . when my MIL lived with us and planted a garden, the deer thought it was for them - too many varmints around here to have a garden.)
I hope the warmer, sunny days will help you with your depression. Take one day at a time and look for the things that bring you happiness and J-O-Y. Count your many blessings . . . name them one by one.
Hugs,
Bucky

It really is almost spring! I've just been to the garden centre and bought pansies and violas for my mum to plant in her containers. They are here Mother's day present, and I know she will love them.
Kathyx
Kathy, Pansies are my favorite flowers. Keep parsley and pansies outside my bedroom window in my little Garden of Joy all winter. Window faces the south and the brick help keep them profusely blooming all winter long. My favorite variety is Delta, color: yellow with little face. Did not feel well enough last fall and did not plant my pots of pansies.
Oh, how I have longed for their bright little faces. :D Think I'll call tomorrow greenhouse and see if they are mature enough to plant with all this frigid cold and snow we have had.
East TN Master Gardeners had intended last of May to visit England's gardens and go to Chelsea flower show. Slow economy has prevented enough of us to be able to come. Have always dreamed of coming to your Country and other nearby ones...Scotland, Wales, Ireland. Long to see the beautiful cottages and all the beautiful flowers. :)
Bucky, Thanks for the encouraging words. The beautiful sunny day here in the 60's gave warmth to my back as I enjoyed time to myself after coming from arthritis exercise class. A simple life is best when one needs rest. ;)
Joy
Yes, I love pansies too. You're right, they have sweet little faces. They give me hope that winter is on the wane. It would be lovely to meet you, if you ever get chance to come to the UK. We have some wonderful places to visit, and being a small island, you can do a lot in just a few days.
Good luck at the garden centre.
Kathyx
70 degrees today!!!! Yipeeeeee. Rain moving in tho. Pray we don't get flooded.
We still have many many snow piles. It will be July before they all melt.
Come on spring and daylight savings time.
harlin
The time changes for us in Illinois this weekend....yippeeeeeeee...I cant wait!!! Staying light 1 hour later will make all the difference in the world!
We've been enjoying warmer weather here in Central IL the last few days. Our snow is 99.5% all gone - there are still a few little spots where it was piled up that haven't melted yet, but for the most part - they're gone. Yay!! Sorry some of you still have plenty on the ground. =( We've had rain on and off the last few days too. The tornadoes are already hitting parts of the U.S.
Our driveway is a sea of mud . . . ugh. We desperately need a load of gravel.
Today as I was driving down our street I saw two crows in the road up ahead. As my car approached them, they flew up . . . guess what was in the road??? A SNAKE!!! EWWWWWWWWWWWW . . . I hate snakes!! If someone cornered me with a snake in their hands I would die of fright!! After I passed by, the crows went back to claim their lunch. Today, I am thankful for two crows!! LOL
That is one thing I DON'T like about spring, summer and fall . . . all the bugs, snakes, ants, etc. Guess I'm just hard to please. ;)
Happy middle of the week. ;D
Bucky
Hey Bucky,
You aren't a bit fussy are you? ;) :D That's okay, I won't be in the same room with one either! ;D
Patze
Hey Bucky....yes...we have mud EVERYWHERE too!! When the dogs go out...I have to have a towel out and ready to wipe their feet....but I still seem to have footprints all over the house from them...everything is a mess! But the snow has melted for the most part...and the ground will dry up one day too so I shouldn't complain!! :D
We had a heavy frost overnight, but the day was beautiful. Still cold, but warm enough to feel hopeful. I love the spring.
Kathyx
Spring has brought more activity to our local badgers, who have started moving more freely through our mini orchard and rooting up our meadow and fruit trees. I have to keep reburying everything! Still I'm not complaining.
