Just wondering if any of you guys suffer from dry hair?
I remember having somewhat oily hair that was super thick...
... now it seems that since my other symptoms set in, my hair is much thinner and never feels oily. I could go weeks without shampooing and there just isn't any oil there... it stays super dry. Not to mention that my hair has thinned a good bit.

I used to have a ton of fine hair (very thin, but it was an oil slick alley :)), until the thyroid slowed way down. It became extremely dry (felt like straw), and it broke off very easily too (it used to take about thirty minutes to blow dry my hair before all of this, and now about five minutes).
With all of this going on, I also lost a lot of body hair, as well as the corners of my eyebrows (usual thyroid symptoms). Most of my body, and head hair have never regrown, but it could be a lot worse (the eyebrows are starting to look like a forest growth now ;) :D).
Once I put on Levoxyl for a couple of years, the eye brows started to grow back, the hair (still very thin, but grows like weeds now) became soft and pliable again (and it takes a long time to get oily now).
Now this is just my little old opinion (please remember that I'm not in the medical field), but I have a question; you've mentioned a lot of symptoms, and I'm wondering if you're having a reaction to one (or more) of your meds by chance? I'm not saying that all of your symptoms (or even any of them) are a result of a reaction, but have you and your doctor ruled that out?

My hair is one of the first things that made me realize something was wrong. My hair used to be wavy and fine textured. Now it looks like a brillo pad. My hair produces 0% oil EVER. It's dry, coarse, wiry, stiff, and looks burnt. It hasn't grown more than an inch in 5 years. :'(
My hair feels very dry and looks frizzy. It was always very healthy and on the oily side until about 3 months ago. I am a hairstylist so I know it is not from something I have done wrong. I sure wish I had my old hair back.
My rheumy noted my strange pattern of hair loss on lower shins and said she wanted to check thyroid. I'd happily accept total loss of leg hair, but looking like a neglected pet with the mange is no fun.
Anyone else wonder why we never hit and stick at 'normal' on our wild swings from greasy to dry / hot to cold / constipation to diahorrea / can't sleep to sleeping round the clock?? We are a funny lot - good job we have each other on here!! XX Ailsa
I always had thick hair on the wavy side.(naturally curly,but not overly so) , and it had natural oils until all of the sjogren's became active. Now it is dry, and even after I wash it my scalp still feels dry,irritated, and itchy, but not like with dandruff. Well, Maybe with this sjogren's I never new what dandruff was. No, it comes with the oily scalp doesn't it?
Oh, and now I am not only really noticing hair thinning on my head, but don't have hair anymore under my arms. Legs still grow hair. Other places hair is less too.

I have dry hair too. I didn't when I was younger, but I know part of it is the meds that I am on. Now my hair is thin and brittle and very fine. I condition it every time I wash it and put a leave on conditioner also. Once a month or so I use a special hair thickener that my hairdresser ordered for me. It seems to help the texture a bit. Plus I take vitamins for my hair and biotin.
Oh to be healthy again!

Not too bad here. But while right against my scalp still gets oily pretty easily, the rest of my hair seems to be dry and flyaway. Maybe it's just the fact that I've got thick wavy hair. So I just brush it and POOF! So maybe it just looks dry.
