Title: Humidifers....trying to find a really good one
Post by: gr8nammy on February 10, 2010, 06:56:27 PM
I am searching for a humidifier that does a good job and is not labor intensive so far as upkeep.  Any Ideas?  I would sure be grateful.

So far I have found the Air O Swiss 7144.  It says it is Ultrasonic warm and cool mist humidifier.  Anyone have this one?

Thanks in advance! :)

I am personally happy with my cheap Walmart Reli-On cool mist humidifier.  I find it very easy to clean and depending on your room size, gives out enough moisture.  I had a Vicks humidifier once and it put out too much moisture and my walls and windows in my bedroom were dripping.  Ended up being more work for me.

Hi Gr8nammy. I have a Honeywell Quietcare. It does a great job! I bought mine from a company called Kaz. They sell the bacteriostatic products to keep it clean as well as the filter. I've had mine for about 4 years and have only had to change the filter once since then. It rolls so moving it to different areas in the house is easy if needed. I would highly recommend this product. Hope this helps!!

Thank you so much Liz!  I have so many health issues, keeping the Walmart one is just too much for me!  Thanks again sweetie!

Please keep the humidifier ideas coming.  I have also spent hours on the web researching what to get, and have somewhat narrowed it down to a Germ Guardian or Supentown-4010.  Both are Ultrasonic.

My concern about ultrasonic humidifiers are all the comments about the possible output of white dust over everything.  Using distilled water is supposed to substantially help this problem.  I don't know.....I can't imagine it is a good idea to be breathing dust like that, though.

Have any of you with ultrasonic humidifiers had a problem with this dust issue?

I feel using a humidifier would be immensely helpful in the bedroom at night, yet don't look forward to the extra upkeep required to keep the machines clean and mold free.

I have checked with our Wal-mart in Orlando, and they don't carry the Reli-on that was mentioned.  Our stores only carry Hunter and Vicks brands.

Thanks for everyones ideas.  I'm glad this thread was started.

I have a small Medisana that I use by bed at night, and a larger Venta that we use for the living room and kitchen area.  I love them both because they are so easy to clean.  No filters!

And no white residue, just plain dust from the dogs.  ;D

I hope you find one that you can handle and works out good for you.

Gr8nammy,
I also use the water treatment that comes with the humidifier.  When we had used all that came with the humidifier, we purchased more.  It's worth it to keep the bacteria out of it.

I hope you find one that is a good fit for you.  We all seem to have our favorites.

I recently bought one at Walgreens - The brand is Hunter (says care free humidifier plus) and it is great, no filters to buy, 3 settings and no dust. It has helped alot with my eyes.
It was approx $50.00, my flexible spending paid for it if anyone has that plan through their work.

I bought a small germ guardian cool mist at Lowe's for around $40.00..other stores had the same unit for $70.00..no filters, ultrasonic.

One complaint with alot of these humidifiers though...why do they add a nightlight? some you can turn off, but alot of them
you cant?? i have a hard enough time sleeping..dont need some 'Blue Light" on all night? yikes..

gursie,

It totally agree about the night light!!!  We have a hard enough time sleeping anyway without extra light.  What I have done to my humidifier is to put a piece of electrical tape over the light.  It helps to a degree.

Hi GR8:  I researched humidifiers in great length and finally decided that I needed something good and not complicated to run.  I paid more but got a really good one.  Air-O-Swiss (blue one).  I ordered on line.  Excellent! and easy.  Actually, I just saw them being sold in Bed Bath and Beyond.  I know it costs alot more but I've had mine for over a year and you can't hear it at all and I will never do without it again.  Good luck.  Diane
