Title: My results are in....Rheumy won't treat
Post by: saranski on January 27, 2010, 12:10:36 PM
Hey everyone,

I just got a call from my rhuematologist, he is an a**hole. Biopsy result came back positive for chronic inflammation, but not at the level needed to give definite diagnosis of sjogren's. without a definite dx, he won't treat with plaquenil or prednisone, he doesn't feel my symptoms are severe enough to risk putting me on such "dangerous" medicines, but he is willing to treat the dry eyes, mouth. Those aren't my freakin issues. I told him about the website he gave me to look at and he said that i am putting "too much stock" in what i am reading and that i am expecting a miracle cure to my body pain/fatigue and in his experience, his patient's have not had any significant decrease of symptoms. OMG, i am so freakin pissed!!!!!!!!!!! he said to go back to my primary and see if he wants to persue anything else and i can always get a 2nd opinion, but i would have to go "out of town" because he is the only rheumatologist in the county.
Someone calm me down!!!!  He also said that hoarseness, laryngitis, muscle weakness, bladder issues, bowel issues, and stomach issues have absolutely nothing to do with SJS......Does he not read the website he refers his pts to????
I am so frustrated!!!!! >:( :-[ :-[ ???

Saranski

That rheumy sounds a bit like mine, unfortunately. He has days when he is very receptive and helpful, and days when he feels my bladder and bowel symptoms are just 'bad luck'. Interestingly, the uro-gynaecologist I saw this week says many ladies with connective tissue disorders have pelvic prolapses, which can lead to bladder and bowel problems, like me. When I told her the rheumy disagreed, but the colo-rectal surgeon agreed, she wondered how many ladies the rheumy asks about pelvic prolapse.!! Guess that's not one of his standard questions - maybe that's why yours doesn't understand that your bladder and bowel problems could be related.

I think you do need a second opinion - even if it is out of town. Hang in there girl.

Hugs

I had an opposite problem with my rheumy; he wants to put me on Plaquenil for the rest of my life, and when I tried to talk about the side effects, he wasn't interested. I found out later that he said I will be very hard to treat because I am noncompliant and averse to meds.

I just want to make an informed decision.

If I eat almost nothing, my symptoms get better. I know there are answers out there, and I am suspecting that some food allergies are playing into this.

Sigh.
