Title: health insurance
Post by: lulu60 on December 14, 2009, 03:21:28 PM
Hi all, I'm new here.  I'm always searching new info on SS.  Just recently retired a few years earlier than expected because I couldn't do the job anymore.  I was wondering if anyone was not accepted by an insurance co. because of SS.  I'm 60 yrs. old.  I might go through AARP if I can.   :)

Hi Lulu and welcome to Sjogrens World!

In my experience with insurance I haven't been denied (I get group insurance through work) but I do know that red flags go up when they see autoimmune conditions and even certain medications which may mean that premiums also go up!

I was denied extra life insurance once at work due to the fact that I was taking Lexapro... :o !

Hi Lulu60,

Let me also welcome you to the SJS World and family!  Please do look around at the dozens of topics, and meet the gaggles of great members too!

No, I've not been declined either (still working, and hope to carry the insurance out of pocket once I do retire (sure keeping my fingers crossed on both counts)).

Again, welcome, and I hope to get to chat with you soon!

Take care -

Patze

When I applied for individual insurance (as opposed to company ins) I was approved for everything BUT my SjS and my eyes. Great, huh? No coverage for rheumy or eye doctor. I am now on company insurance and our state law prohibits ins companies from exclusion due to any preexisting condition. Thank goodness I have this.
