Title: Got the all clear on angiogram!
Post by: jaygee on November 25, 2009, 10:57:23 AM
So relieved.  Had the angiogram yesterday and everything is 100% totally clear - phew!!!!!!

Mind you, the procedure was awful for me  :(   It felt like someone was trying to shove a hosepipe up the artery in my groin  :'(   They only give local anaesthetic at the site of entry and I made such a fuss they nearly had to knock me out!    (Really, I was crying - and I pride myself on being a tough old cookie, normally!)   One of my pals, who has Reynaud's as well, suggested that perhaps the artery goes into spasm more often with Reynaud's people - ,aybe that's why it hurt so much.  The other patients having the procedure the same day were just fine.

I have a lot of discomfort and bruising today, but I am so pleased to know that GERD was probably responsible for my emergency trip to the hospital in summer, rather than my heart.  Phew!!!!!   They wanted to check me out thoroughly, though, as my sister had a heart attack at a similar age, and she needed stents in her arteries.        xx

Hi Jaygee  :)

The procedure sounds unpleasant but I'm so glad you got a good set of results. It's great that your heart is fine. I hope your bruising subsides and you feel all better soon!

Take care - Scottie  :)

But Jaygee

Maybe you have done their future patients a favour, by reminding them that we all have different levels of pain threshold.

Hope you're feeling better today.

Jaygee,

So glad to hear that your test is over and your results came back negative for any heart issues. And hey...don't feel bad for how you reacted during the test.....sometimes we all reach a point where enough is enough and if it hurt....they need to know that!

Hope you are healing and feeling a bit better each day!

Hugs to you....

A friend of mine told me about when she had the same procedure.  She was totally fine, and it hardly hurt her.  However, apparently there is a nerve that runs alongside the artery and, in some people, this can be aggravated and cause a lot of pain.  I lost quite a bit of blood and was put on a drip afterwards - she didn't bleed at all and was totally fine!  Maybe I was just one of "those" patients  ::)     But - it is worth it to know everything is ok  ;D

Thanks so much for your kind messages.  You guys are so supportive and I really appreciate it  :-* :-*

Hi Jaygee

I'm so sorry that you had such a difficult time - but pleased that the result was good.  It sounds as though you were one of the unlucky ones.  I wonder whether it was just chance that your nerve was aggravated by the wire or whether the SjS made you more sensitive?

There's no need to be embarrassed about crying.  I did the same when I had my last endoscopy.  I opted to have it without sedation and ended up crying for the entire 20 minutes it took to do the tests.  I just couldn't stop sobbing which isn't that easy with a tube down your throat!  I felt really embarrassed too but the staff were lovely to me.

Hope the soreness is passing and won't affect your riding.

Thinking of you - Chickpea
