Title: finaly , the Dr is doing something!!!
Post by: ginger_pops on November 25, 2009, 06:18:16 AM
Hi folks
Went to the Dr this morning for the results of my second thyroid test, he said they had come back slightly high at 4.3 and the normal range is 4.0 so was just going to keep a eye on them and will test every 3 months.
then asked me wether i was still experiencing dry issues, problems with swallowing and fatigue, joint pain, went on to say he had gone over my notes and wanted to get to the bottom of my symptoms, i explained to him that i felt that they thought i was making it all up , by his previous comments then i got quite upset , and admit i did cry, he said he didn't think that, that he was frustrated as well ,that he thought that i had SJS,as all my symptoms pointed to this ,and he was going to re,refer me back to the rummy, i told him that ,she said she didn't want to see me again unless my inflammation levels were raised even thou my ANA were positive he replied this didn't matter and that something needed doing, then faxed a request for a ECG to be done urgently, before my echocardiogram with my heart being enlarged, said he was only a Dr and a rummy should check this all out -then said he would talk to the Senior Dr in the practice , about my case and phone me Thursday or Friday to discuss what they had decided, and would probably have me in to go over my past history as he read about problems after a past operation 4 years ago,to do with zero potassium, paralyzed bowl and septicemia
I  feel a bit happier that he is now taking me seriously and hopefully now something will get done  ;)
Thanks for listening

BIG HUGS TO EVERYONE

Linda xx

4.3 is too high for most people, especially someone with autoimmune issues.  Can you ask your doc about starting you on a low dose of thyroid meds (say 25 mg of synthroid or levoxyl)?

Your fatigue and joint pain might be SJS, but it could just as easily be your hypothyroidism.

I'm happy that your doctor was nicer this time, but I'm still concerned that you aren't getting the treatment that you need.

That AACE has changed its recommendations for TSH.  Perhaps showing this report http://www.aace.com/public/awareness/tam/2004/tsh.php to your doctor will bring him up-to-date.

When I first got sick, my whole body went arthritic.  My TSH was only 5.6 and my ANA was barely positive (>1:40).  Thyroid meds brought me back to life.

Hi Linda  :)

I'm another one who feels ill if my TSH is more than 2 and I feel best when it is less than 1. I'm so glad that your doctor sounds as though he's being supportive though. I hope he contacts the right people and that you get the answers you deserve.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Linda

I'm glad this appointment was better than the previous one. It's good that you did show your frustration with the way he made you feel before. Hopefully, he will think about that when he is tempted to blow people off in the future.

Glad to hear that your doctor is actually taking you seriously and that he is willing to work with others to get to the bottom of your symptoms. Good luck to you!

Hi Linda

What a relief this must be!  This doctor could be a real ally to you.  I'm so glad that you were able to show him how you were feeling and he responded when you reminded him that he hadn't seemed to take you seriously before.

It's great that he wants to spend time going over your medical history - make sure you take your symptom diary with you for that appointment.  Did he get back to you by the end of the week?
