Hi all,
I have just been reading some posts about people with tooth concerns and thought I would share the regime that my dentist came up with after I was diagnosed with Sjogren's. It has helped a lot so far, and hope it may help others.
First thing in the morning I brush with Prevident 5000 for Sensitive Teeth. It is easier on the teeth than the usual Prevident. It says not to rinse it after but because my mouth is so dry, I have to rinse it or it hardens onto my teeth. The dentist says this is ok. At lunchtime, I rinse with Biotene rinse. At night, I brush with X-Pur, which is a remineralizing toothpaste. Again, I have to rinse rather than leave this on. I have to purchase this toothpaste from my dentist but I believe you can get it at drugstores in the U.S. I use an electric toothbrush (Oral B) which the dentist says is more effective than the regular type. I floss at least twice a day.
I also use Salagen 6 times a day (I take it once halfway through the night).
The dentist also recommended I use Spry gum and/or mints during the day if my mouth is dry rather than any other mint or gum as it has xylitol and no other chemicals. Xylitol is a natural anti-cavity fighter and I like the peppermint flavour.
I hope this is helpful to some, Good luck,
Chun
