Title: Eyelid Sugery
Post by: sboller on November 17, 2009, 01:08:07 PM
Hello,

I am curious if anyone has had eyelid sugery.  I seen an eye doctor last week who specializes in eyelid surgery, and he is confident insurance will over my upper lids. Of course I am nervous and curious if anyone has done it, how they liked it, and what the healing was like.
Thanks.....

Best Regards,
Sheri

Hi Sheri
I had a really wonderful Eye Dr and trusted her very much.  She had put in the punctual plugs in both upper and lower lids.  But I kept losing the upper ones.  I am not sure what your Dr. means by eye lid surgery.  But if he is talking about cauterizing the upper lids.  It was not too bad.   The worst part was the shots in the eyelid, both outer and inner lid.  The smell of burning eyelashes was unnerving.  Of course there are always a chance of complications, and the Dr. should go over everything with you.  Infections, pain,(for me the pain was not bad) scarring, or not enough scarring, etc.   So make sure you understand what your Dr. wants to do and you understand all the consequences.
For me it has been a great help, even though I still can't cry, it has cut down on some of the eyedrops and tears that I use.

My elderly mother when she was alive had eyelid surgery.  She had eyelids that were hanging too far down on here eyes and obstructing her vision.  A plastic surgeon actually did it. Course she had medicare but I would think insurance would cover it if it was an eye problem.

Mom healed good and didn't have any problems but all surgeries are scarey to me anyway.

Can you explain what type of eyelid surgery you are talking about? Just curious....

Thanks for the feedback.
I am asking about blehplasty or however it is spelled.   It is considered elective plastic surgery sometimes insurance will pay for it, if you have excessive skin

I want to warn you that you are definitely at risk for incomplete closure of the eye and that would be disastrous for anyone with dry eye.  My eye doctor told me stories about this happening.  Be very careful.
