I just thought I would share that my hubby and I adopted a year old pup from the local animal control yesterday. We are thrilled. My 16 year old sweet heart passed away this past May and I was finally ready to help out another dog who needed a home.
This new family member is a German Shepherd/Terrier mix who is a tiny little thing weighing about 15 pounds. He is very friendly and already understands some commands. So far all is going well except for my cat who has his nose slightly out of joint LOL. He just knew for sure he was the boss around here. Things are better today for him and hopefully by tomorrow he will slowly come to realize Dodger is here to stay.
Awwwww, a new doggie . . . . welcome to your new family Dodger!! I'm sure Dodger will have a long loving life at your home. Cat will get used to Dodger and vice versa and might even end up being great buds! ;D Either that or at least know each others boundaries!! LOL
Bless you for adopting this little doggie and making him a part of your family.

It's lovely to hear that a dog has gone to a wonderful home. I hope you'll all be very happy together - including the cat, who I'm sure will let the dog know who is boss!
Take care - Scottie :)
That's so neat Salsen!!!! Congratulations on the new addition, and may you, him, and the family have tons of fun in the coming years.
By the way, what's his name?
Patze
Congrats to you and to Dodger! I am such an animal lover and I love to hear when someone has adopted or rescued a furry (or sometimes not so furry) little one that needed a good home. Thanks Salsen!
I hope that you and your new family member have many many years of happiness together...and I hope your cat adjusts well too. I'm sure he will....they just take awhile longer sometimes.......especially since your kitty was THE boss for so long! lol
Welcome Dodger :)
Congratulations on the new addition Salsen. You must be so pleased to have a new fur baby.

That's ok Patze...we got your back! ;)
LOL My hubby says the name suits him because he dodged a bullet by being adopted from the local animal shelter but more importantly he dodged a lot of interference to make it here to me.
My new puppy is chewing everything! Now that he is becoming familiar with the house he has begun chewing on everything. He has managed to destroy all his toys except for the rope throws. He has even managed to chew off the microchip tag attatched to his collar. How he managed that I can't figure out.
Any suggestions on how to slow him down on the chewing fixation?
Hi Sal,
As I told you in my recent e-mail, be had a german shepherd that just about destroyed our house. She chewed the door frame around the kitchen door all the way back to the plaster wall. From the floor to about 3 feet up. She chewed the vinyl tile off the floor, and the metal trim on the bottom of my stove.
I ask the vet about it and he told me "if you can put up with her chewing until she's about 16 months" you will have a great dog". They just chew because they have to. When they are cutting new teeth, the have to chew to set them in their jaw bones.
We put up with her and had her for 19 yrs. We bought her beef bones at the grocery store. Ask at the meat department if they will give you (or sell you) a real large joint bone. Be sure to either bake it or boil it for about 1/2 hour, then let it cool. It's the only thing that saved our house.
I hope this helps some. Good luck with him, he sounds like a real winner.
Hugs, Pooh
congratulations to you and Dodger, they really bring a lot of love to a home. Enjoy your new doggie :)
Yipee for Dodger !
We got butcher bones for for our Elroy pup.
Glad for the Joy you will receive from your Dodger dog.

Well Dodger is still chewing and I have told him if he continues to chew up his sleep pad he will be sleeping on the bare floor. Don't really think he is listening LOL. Anyway my daughter suggested I get a Konga toy for him. It is basically made out of the same material a tire for a car is. I will try it but not real sure if this is Dodger proof. His only toys are some large ropes which he gnaws away at. This is a new experience for me but we will muddle through. He has tried to chew the base boards but thank goodness he responses to a firm NO.
Do beef bones last long and do they begin to stink if they around awhile? I am open for all suggestions that will help him through this stage.
Hi Salsen,
Kong dog toys are a great suggestion! They are made of a very strong material and they have a hole in the center that you can stuff treats in....they even have stuff they sell that you can put in there....it looks kind of like those cans of soft cheese that you can put in there and it should keep Dodger busy for awhile. Some people have even put peanut butter in the hole as it can keep a dog busy for quite a while trying to get it all out of the hole in the toy. ;D
Check it out online.....they are called Kong Dog Toys!
Good luck to you and Dodger! :D
Lucky dodger dog ;D
We have the kong toys that you can put dog biscuits inside, and it keeps the dogs happy for a while working out how to get the treats out :D
We also have a product (in UK) called nylabone. This is a tough, bone shaped toy that is scented with various meat flavours. It is not harmful to the dog as the dog can't possibly bite off any more than a grain sized piece of the product, so it is safe to leave with the dog when you aren't there (like overnight). Our dogs love them and they won't mark your furniture or smell ;D
Lucky dog to come and live with you (and lucky you, too) xx
