It's a wet, cold day here in Illinois. Gonna put a roast in the crock pot today and let it cook all day to have for dinner tonight. Yum . . . makes my mouth water just thinking about it. LOL Nothing smells better than a slow cooking meal that wafts throughout the house. Mmmmmm . . . making you hungry?? ;D Go ahead, pull your crock-pot or slow cooker out and plug her in and you too can enjoy a delicious, mouth watering meal this evening. (Ok, you DO have to put some food into the pot, it doesn't just magically appear on it's own . . LOL) :D
Bucky
Bucky,
I'm coming to your house for dinner!
Cheryl
Mmmmmm . . the smell of the roast cooking this afternoon smelled sooooo good. First thing hubby said when he walked in the door from work this evening . . "I don't know what you're cooking, but it smells wonderful!". ;D I must say, it was so tender and YUM-O!! ;D Hubby can't wait to warm up leftovers at work tomorrow and make his co-workers jealous. ::)
Cheryl . . . I saved you some . . . come and get it! :D (Just don't bring me your "bug". Hope you feel better quickly.)
Bucky
Oh shooooot!
I read this too late...dinners over!
Ill take some of the leftovers too if your hubby will share! ;D
Lynn . . . HA . . . you don't EVER come between my hubby and his food!! Sorry, he won't be sharing that. Although, I still have some more left besides what he's taking in his lunch. You'll have to make some more potatoes though, he took all those. ;D
Next time I make it I'll give you a heads up earlier and I'll meet you half way with a "to go" container. ;D

You're on!! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing013.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) Sounds like a plan to me!
Please tell me the trick to a tender roast. I have never made a good one in my life. I've tried slow roasting in the oven, crock pot, braising first, adding broths, soups, etc. Anything I do to it turns out like shoe leather. What is the most tender cut? I'd love hearing your suggestions.
Thanks!
Julie
Julie,
I must have just gotten lucky this time. I had the butcher cut me a piece as I needed one larger than the ones in the display case. Maybe because it was "fresher"?? It was a boneless bottom round rump roast. It didn't have much fat on it at all. I just salt and peppered it and laid it on top of potatoes, carrots and onions and put half a cup of water on top.
Hubby said several people commented on the wonderful smell coming from the lunch room at work today. ;D

I LOVE my slow cooker! At least twice a week it feeds us healthy meals and gets rid of the guilt of pasta quickies and freezer to oven jobs the rest of the week!
Current favourites are boneless chicken thighs with vegs and dumplings; sausage casserole; stewing steak with mushrooms and a glass of red wine / guiness; and a piece of gammon cooked overnight. Remove gammon in the morning and throw broth mix / frozen veg into the stock for soup.
Love sharing recipes and trying out people's faves XX Ailsa
My favourite pot roast for the crock is brisket of beef. I seal it in the wok and add about a pint of stock with some carrots and onions just heated, then into the crock they go. If the wrapping says it needs to be pot roasted for 1.5 hours, I do it for 3. It usually turns out really well.

Me too! Love my crockpots! And I love to make old fashioned spaghetti sauce, good stuff (along with soups)!!
