Back after some time away
« on: June 30, 2009, 09:18:19 PM »
Hi Folks - It has been a while since I posted. After my surgery in January, I spent several weeks recovering, got behind in reading posts, and gave up for a while. Then I was gone for most of two months in and out of the monastery in training. I got back for good a week ago and am getting caught up on many things, including my gardening. Fortunately my sister came and kept everything watered for me, as we have had unusually dry weather here. Unfortunately, the weeds are thriving as well as the flowers.

Glad to hear Kathyx is recovering from her surgery, that Pooh is back (but not glad to hear about the balance issues), that Lauren is back as well. Scottie, your camping trip with the kids was not for the faint of heart, I tell you. It's exhausting just to read about it!

How nice to see so many familiar names on the posts, and the new ones as well. Please consider yourselves all greeted, even though I will not get through all the posts by any means.

Take care everyone - I'll check in more frequently now.

Genko

Hi and welcome back, Genko. I'm so glad to hear that you have recovered from your surgery, and that your spiritual health is also receiving ongoing care and attention. The garden is as lovely as ever, I'm sure, even weeds can be vibrant, green and a show of life!

Hi Genko,

Let me also welcome you back to the fold!  It's good to see that the surgery went well, and that you've been able to continue on your spiritual path too!

Shoot, the weeds around here are almost as pretty as the flowers I have on my balcony that I just leave them be! ;)

Dear Genko so happy to hear your surgery went well and your recovery also.  Good to have you back.  Your wisdom is so very much appreciated.

Oh yes, the weeds do like to thrive when unattended, but they too have a purpose in life.  I think it's to make us exercise by pulling and digging them out.  ;D  I have several that persist on returning so I've named them "Pest" and "Evermore" and mostly just keep them contained.

The vertigo seems to be persistent and is fighting the Meclizine doses.  My rheumy and PC have decided it's time for my neuro to take over, so I'm awaiting a call from his office for an appointment to see him.  I am really getting to the end of my rope with this disease.  I'm not sure how much more of this "crap" I can take. ::)  But "I'll try again tomorrow" as the saying goes.

Take care and I'm looking forward to some more of those wonderful photos of your fabulous gardens.

Hugs, Pooh

Hi Genko

How lovely to hear from you again.  You'll never believe it but I woke thinking of you yesterday morning!  The night before I'd been thinking about all the lovely newbies who have arrived here recently, and then about the 'oldies' who made me so welcome when I first posted.  And of course I thought of you: your kindness and wisdom; the sensible answers you offered for my early worries; and the time you've always given to us all.

Welcome back, dear friend.

Thinking of you - Chickpea

Thanks, everyone. It will take me a while to wade through more of the posts.

I've put some pictures up on Flickr of the garden and also of the monastery and grounds, although there was little time to take pictures there, as you are going from 3 am to 9 pm every day. Needless to say, most of the pictures I took were of flowers!

The garden pictures show my latest project, a small patio and shade garden, which I started last year and my husband had to finish the stones for me, since I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than ten pounds still because of the surgery. Most weeds weigh less than that, so I'm still able to weed. Mostly I've been watering, since we are in the driest spell in 116 years of record-keeping here.

Genko, your pictures have brought me such tranquility, I can overlook the guilt associated with looking at my own meagre garden  :D

I shouldn't say that, because I know my plants are, for now, my best efforts, and I take delight in them because they are beauty and life and growth, just not quite the degree of B, L & G as yours! I'm blessed to live in a rural area, and can find quiet meadows very nearby, abundant with wild flowers or trees in bloom, stately evergreen or hardwood stands, waterfalls and ponds designed by a master gardener, an occasional wandering deer or frequent squirrels, and birdsong, free for the listening.

Genko,

Welcome back!  I too was thinking of you last weekend as I saw these beautiful pictures of a garden a local lady had in the newspaper.  I remember your beautiful pictures of your garden from last year.  I bet you really feel the peace and tranquility when you are out there in your garden.   ;D

I wish you lived nearby - you could come over and teach me.   :D

My only flowers are a bunch of day lilies that WERE looking good, until the kittens decided to play in them and smash them to the ground.  :(

I wouldn't mind gardening - but I don't like BUGS!!  I always hated pulling weeds in my Moms flower beds, the little gnats, etc. would drive me nuts!!!  Guess I will just have to admire them from people talented like YOU!!   ;D
