Any advice for a Sudoku addict?

I can't believe I'm the only Sjoggie who's addicted to Sudoku puzzles.  Anyone else out there who needs their daily 'fix'?

Now I've branched out into Kakuro which, if anything, I think I love even more than my old faithful Sudokus.  So much so that my children accuse me of having a 'Kakuro' voice:  apparently I get all enthusiastic and try to persuade other people to try them.  They take the p**s out of me for it!

Maybe there's a help line for people like me?  Should I wean myself off them gradually or treat them as 'brain training'?  Anyone found other puzzles which provide as much pleasure?  All help welcome.

ps In years gone by I was definitely addicted to Tetris, so much so that I could see the coloured blocks falling in my mind's eye!  Took years to recover from that particular addiction.

I verge on having a fear of anything numerical. I see numbers and a shutter in my brain closes.  I do get addicted to word games though and spend far too many hours online playing them. I also like logic puzzles.
I've noticed that everytime I have a 'bad spell' (flare?) I develop some kind of addiction. First ever it was a rubik's cube. It's been various kinds of computer games over the years as well. Occasionally arts and crafts like a prolonged dose of glass painting once!

I've not gotten into Sudoku puzzles, but I do love Tetris, got a couple of different types on my computer and on the cell phone, do love the challenge.  I do have a problem with it now a days if I play it to long, my vision blurs really bad - have to control my time playing it.

I play Sudoku as well but not every day. I also like to do word searches and crosswords, but I'm not very good at them either...lol.

What I do get addicted to is computer games....Mahjong ( I love this game) and hidden objects games are my latest addictions...but I switch from time to time!


Ive always heard it's good to keep your mind going by doing logic games and other ones that make you think....I remember people here telling us how it was told to them after certain evaluations to do word and number puzzles as well as to work jigsaw puzzles etc. I think anytime you can get your brain moving it can only be a good thing for us sjoggies...so keep up with your Sudoku Chickpea...you are building up your brain power!

Hi Chickpea,

I bought some Sudoku books but found I needed an instruction manual. I haven't looked at it yet but I keep telling myself that it will make sense. I keep thinking that letters in a row make words, that makes sense. Numbers in a row? Not sure how that makes sense unless it is math. I am addicted to crosswords so once I figure out the Sudoku, I will probably like it. Now, to find the time, sigh.

Hello, my name is Linda, and I'm a gamesaholic.

I have so many of them now, that I make them take turns, sometimes it's Sudoku daily, then I go to Mahjong for a while, then crosswords, hidden objects, or various card games. At the moment, its a virtual farm that needs my attentions more than a couple of times a day!

I find I get totally addicted to a new game, until something newer comes along and the hook switches...but at leas it gives me something to do when I could be doing housework! Now why can't housework be addictive, and more game like?

My rationale is...games that require skill, patience or even a small amount of concentration all exercise the brain, and mine needs all the exercise it can get!

I've never played Sudoku - looks too hard.

I come from a game playing family . . . we love our games.  The nice thing about computers and the internet - now I can have a game partner any time of day or night.   

The game I like to play at the moment is Spider Solitaire.  I was playing Peggle which is a lot of fun.  We got a new computer and don't have it on this one . . . YET.     I also like Cubis 2, Jewel Quest, Backgammon, Dominoes, Bingo, Pool, Literati . . . . . . . the list goes on.

Linda, you said <<why can't housework be addictive, more game like?>>  well . . . for me it is a game!  I play hide and seek all the time!!!!  LOL  Now where DID I put that bill that needs to be paid??  Who took the duster and didn't put it back??  Ok, where's the remote control???  I've thought about trying to be a magician and pull the tablecloth off the dining room table which is loaded with papers, card box, "stuff" . . . but I'm afraid I would break something!!  I should just play "pick up sticks" and sort thru the stuff!  Nah!!  LOL

I need to mop the kitchen floor today . . perhaps I'll make a little "game" out of it.  Dancing with the mop??!!   

I agree that we're getting our doses of BRAIN POWER when we play games . . . . LONG LIVE GAMES!!!

World of Warcraft....right now I'm trying to get my hit rating down to 8% which is

the cap, have it way to high and its not in the enchants or gems...so need new gear....

lol....and no one knows what I'm talking about. Named my Character/toon Sjogrens

cause i control the character....well there is my addiction.

Linda I have been hooked on those virtual games too.....the Sims and others have all been part of my addictions! I tried the virtual farm but kept forgetting to feed the cows so they would always break down my fence and run away! 

Bucky...Jewel Quest was another one of the games that I played over and over! I still go back to it at times..FUN!

Patze...I like ANY of the  Mahjong  games.....there are so many that you can purchase and play for free online...I like them all!

With all of the games we play...we are all going be "perty dern smart"!

OKAY ladies,

I read this thread and went , straight on a quest to find me some games.

I first fell head long into Mahjong . Oh so addictive. 

Then I remembered a game I loved of strategy called Pente, found a site of others that bloged about strategy and played one another ,you could also play the computer. I have not won a single game yet. My husband thinks its funny because I use to clean his plow with that game.
I was playing some one when I first entered the game room , that person was being really patient with me. You can communicate while playing. after a very short while it said.. player has left the table.    So I have been playing the computer and getting my plow cleaned over, and over and over.

JJ-  My family was big into WOW it was crazy listening to them talk about it. I wasn't even into turning on a computer then. I felt left out.

I like what you all were saying about it being medicinal, that is what you said right ?  Brain fog preventive treatments.
