What a complete a**hole
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:46:13 AM »
Just needed to vent about my MD. He was the person who was 99% sure I didn't have Sjogrens. Guess I was the lucky 1% right. He told me not to use any drops and that I would never be able to wear contacts. He has since changed his tune more times than I can count. He is now saying use drops all the time and wear contacts as a bandage. He acts like he didn't even get my dx wrong and he trouts around as the next thing to sliced bread. Ahhhh. I probably should get a new MD but he is going to start me on blood serum soon and he is one of the only MD's that has connections for that. I wish I could just pop him one! I guess i just have alot of pent up regression!!!

kcoffiner, Are you speaking about eye drops that you will be soon starting??? Just curious. Is this doctor youor GP or are you seeing a rheumatologist? Also, have you seen a eye doctor at all. Your eyes really need the attention of an eye specialist as most GPs don't have a clue about caring for the autoimmune eye.

Most people with sjogrens do not wear the contacts. I am quite confused about what type of care you are getting. I guess I don't know just what kind of other issues you have with your sjogrens. Hopefully you will be able to update me on this. I am also curious if there are other doctors that can get you the "blood serum" that you speak of. There may be other doctors in your area that can get the same thing for you. My thoughts are with you. Irish ;D

I agree with Irish that you should be seeing an eye Doc for those issues.  I really do not understand how he could tell you to use contacts as a bandage.  If anything that would irritate an allready compromised cornea.  I would advise to NOT use them untill you get advice from an eye doc.

Take good care~~Shari~~

I just now read your post about the contacts being used as a bandaid.  My symptoms started 25 years ago with the dry eyes and swollen parotid glands.  The opthomologist that I saw explained that my eyes were much too dry to safely wear contacts, but at that time, some other contacts were on the brink of being developed.  These "new" contacts would have a much higher water content than the old ones and he explained that it could actually aide my eyes with a protective coating of moisture.

I've tried going back to contacts a few times over the last 25 yrs, but have never been able to wear the successfully.  Lately thru the TV ads though, I see they keep advertising yet another contact that has the highest water content of any that exist.  I don't know the brand name.  Not sure I would want to risk the infections trying them any more either.

It would be interesting if there was some documentation on this and a study proving the effectiveness.  THEN I might be willing to give them another try.
