Sjogren's World Description and Purpose

Sjogren's World is an internet community built for people who have Sjogren's Syndrome to meet and share their experiences, and personal knowledge and to disseminate information to improve quality of life and help thwart the loneliness and isolation that often accompanies living with this debilitating disease.

Sjogren's World offers various ways to accomplish this, including discussion forums, instant messaging, live chats, e-mail list, as well as reliable medical links and articles on neurological components of Sjogren's Syndrome. These activities are orchestrated by the staff of Sjogren's World.

The discussion forums are one-on-many, where the user can leave a message and return at a later convenient time to read responses and to respond to other messages. The Forums are open 24 hours a day. One forum is for listing/sharing personal instant messaging nicknames for that one-on-one chat using messenger programs such as MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger, and the like. Live Chats are a group form of communication in live time using IRC (Internet Relay Chat) software where many people meet in a single chat room and have discussions, give encouragement and share with immediate response from others in the room. The Live Chats are hosted by Sjogren's World staff several times a week; however the Chat Room is open 24 hours a day. Our e-mail list is a weekly reminder of the scheduled chat times.    We also provide a 24 hour web site with links to medical information sites as well as physician published articles that discuss the neurological aspects of Sjogren's Syndrome.

All of these activities are funded through the donations of our users, staff and board members. All of these activities educate the participants about the syndrome, offer information pertaining to medical and scientific research, and provide tools that are necessary to battle discrimination, and gain governmental assistance to improve their quality of life.
