Osteo Arthritis?
« on: March 21, 2012, 02:46:31 PM »
Hi all, Just been diagnosed with Osteo arthritis, which apparently is all the way down in the spine.

Doctor gave me prescription for Ibuprofen 400mg  2 tabs  3x daily.  When I collected the tablets and saw the size of them I nearly choked looking at them let alone swallow one..
So what do you all take for this condition. My ribcage has been swelling up for some year's ,but now I feel I cannot get breath properly for it.
Doc suggests having some Physio, (any good ?)

Incidently to those of you with the ribcage issues, dont just put up with it , I did, as my Docs said they couldent find anything wrong, but none ever suggested a simple  X Ray until now, I am so miserable as nothing seems to alleviate it.. least bit house work and it starts ..  Any suggests welcome                                               Dolly. (UK)

Hi Dolly  :)

I have OA in both knees, shoulders and now I think it's starting in my hips. I needed a partial knee replacement in 2006. For me - physiotherapy helped but I don't know if it would work for OA in the spine. At one stage I could not lift my right arm above my head but after the correct exercises - now I can.

I used to take Voltarol or Diclofenac for pain. (I think they are stroneger than Ibuprofen but am not sure) They are all NSAIDs. Since developing unexplained bruising I'm not allowed to take NSAIDs any more. I was told to take codeine and paracetamol but I can't tolerate codeine. I makes me deeply depressed! Now I'm on slow release Tramadol and paracetamol. I sneak in Ibuprofen if I encounter 'extra pain' over a few days.

I think you need to ask your GP what your options are. There may be some form of physio that could help but you'll have to ask.  Good luck!

Take care - Scottie  :)
