Does any OTC drugs actually help your pain?

Not only does over the counter not help with my arthritis pain, neither does vicodin or percocet  (it very slightly takes the edge off for a very short time and then makes me feel very ill  ).

For your arthritis pain, try high active tart cherry extract.

Advil works well for me, but I recently read that it can lower platelet counts, and that's my problem! So I'm off Advil (ibuprofen) for awhile, I guess. Does anybody know if Aleve has bad side effects like that? Tylenol doesn't work for me.

Aleve is Naproxen Sodium--a NSAID very similar to Ibuprofen, so it does interrupt platelet aggregation, but it is not as severe as say, Aspirin.

Does Tylenol work for anyone? Has it worked for anyone ever?

I only take prescribtion meds for my pain but OTC tiger balm does take the edge off my leg pain.

No, my body laughs at OTC drugs.   I take Hydrocodone, too, when I have a back headache/backache/muscles, etc. I have an RX for Tramadol, but am waiting as long as I can before getting it. My Heuro guy gave me Topamax for silent migraines, but I haven't filled it, because I am not totally convinced that I have that DX! I plan on talking to my Rheumy in March about the possibility of having Dysautonomia instead. My mother (and, her mother, and HER mother,etc, etc.) ALL have/had debilitating pain with migraines...then why not me?? (I don't have the bad headache....had maybe 3 in my life, and not even sure if THOSE were actual migraines). I think the Neuro guy just grabbed a DX and stuck it on me, when the Rheumy would probably know more about the Dys. (Wow, sorry for going on...lol...been a BAD day....financially, and SjS-wise.)

I personally have not had any success with Tylenol for this pain. I wish I could say that I have had some success with something but still no.

I think that I will try and go back on to Aleve. I did have lots of brusing when I was using it, I noticed someone mentioned that it can effect your platets? Maybe that is why? I think that I will first try and talk to my doctor and see what they have to say.

Every persons system is different. I know that lowering the acid in my system by eliminating caffeine helps. Dark cherries have been used for centuries to treat gout. I have heard of raisins soaked in vodka, but as mom said it had more to do with the vodka than the raisins.

My father-in-law used to eat 13 raisins soaked in something---maybe it was vodka or gin---every morning for the last 10 or 15 years of his life. He liked his "routines" and carefully placed the raisins on his morning cereal. Who knows what it did for him, but to watch this ritual was endearing.

If you want to try an herb, Valerian Root may be worth looking into. It does have a shelf life. Do not take and operate equipment before yo know how your body reacts.
