Questions about my bloodwork labs.
« on: May 05, 2010, 05:37:56 PM »
I saw my rheumy last week and as usual, she mailed me a copy of my bloodwork report.  Truthfully, I do no more than give this a glance and then put in a pile somewhere to "be filed."  Probably in my next lifetime.  Well, I've been feeling rather badly and with extreme fatigue.  I also told her about my muscle weakness in my legs.  I have an EMG set up for that next Monday.  Can't wait.  Those never show anything and I hate 'em.

If something on my lab report is "off" usually they will make a note next to it and see if it's the same next time etc.  Or if I need some vitamin D, she'll send me an RX.  This time I noticed a few things that are not normally "abnormal."  I am not worried because something shows abnormal because I know this disease is a pot of gold, silver and mud all mixed together.  It does mean though something is different.

My SED RATE ERYTHROCYTE    RESULT:  30 (abn)                                       units: mm/hr       normal:   0-20
The only time I remember this being abnormal was during my diagnosis testing and I think it was 30 then.

ANA SCREEN, IFA                    RESULT POSITIVE (abn:A)                                           NORMAL RANGE: NEGATIVE

SJOGRENS ANTIBODY   (SSA)               2.3 pos (aBN:a)                                                      ,1.0 NEG
sjogrens antibody (ssb)                        ,1.0 NEG

ANA PATTERN                                   SPECKLED (aBN:a)
ANA TITRE:1:160 (aBN:h)

Hey Lucy,

It all looks like classic Sjogren's bloodwork to me. Your higher sed rate could explain why you are feeling worse lately - more inflammation. Although I must say a 30 sed rate would be a good day for me.  ;)

I agree with Suzy: classic SJS.

I also have positive SS-A and ANA w/ a speckled pattern.  I don't usually have an elevated SED rate, though.  It seems more "normal" (for SJS that is!) to have that be positive, as it measures inflammation in the body.

Looks like SjS to me.  Also, if your EMG is negative, request a skin biopsy for nerve fiber density.

Yes, Lucy dear,

You have Sjogren's Syndrome and your inflammation is flared up.
