Update on sicca sy/polyneuropathy
« on: October 16, 2009, 12:12:07 AM »
Hello everyone,

How are you these days? Hope you all do well!

Here is a little update on my treatment. As I already wrote, I do take only Prednisone 60 mg on the every second day for a month and the half now and I noticed an improvement. :)

My mouth is not dry as before, I don't get up anymore during night to have a glass of water, fatigue seems to disappeared, I do not ache as before(still aching but very little), and best of  all I noticed improvement even with my neuropathy. My legs are not in pain so much, with each day I can walk more and more... :)

My lip biopsy came as negative.

In two weeks time I'll see my neurologist and discuss a further treatment. This forum is great help to me, thank you all!!

Take care all!!

Hi Beta

It's good to hear that the Prednisolone is helping so much.  How did you deal with the side effects of starting steroids?  I remember I couldn't stop cooking when I was first on 40 mg daily!

Let us know how your appointment with the neurologist goes and what ideas he/she has for treatment.

Thinking of you - Chickpea

Hi Chickpea,

I know what you mean by non stop cooking, only side effect of Prednisone that I have is OH, THAT GLORIOUS FOOD!  :)

I cannot stop thinking about food, especially sweets. I was told by Neuro to avoid sweets (possible diabetes while on steroids), but I just can?t stay away from chocolate, cakes etc?.

For now (month and the half) I gained  about 4 pounds, I am normal weight, so if I gain some weight, well, I'll think about that later!  :)  Also, I am not active as I was, I could barely walk in last three months(July-September).

P.S. I read somewhere that great deal of side effects are avoided if steroids are taken on a second day.

Take care!

Oh, so glad you're feeling better on prednisone.  It helps that you are of normal weight.  So many of us are "too plenty" and then when we have to deal with the munchies, it's not a pretty sight.  I have not been on prednisone for a couple of years but see my rheumy on Monday.  I've been feeling punk lately and I might bring it up.

I love to see others "can't stop cooking" because I hate cooking.  When the munchies come, I just eat prepared food or food that my hubby has cooked.  He loves to cook.  Bon appetite'........Lucy
