Hope he is getting better?? Joe has helped me alot and I miss all of his post....
-
I've sent a P.M. but don't know how else to get in touch. Hope he's better soon!
-
I have been moved to North ridge Masonic Home for rehab. A few weeks ago, my leg broke and I fell down a flight of stairs. Today is my first day back on the computer for a few minutes. I hit my head on the way down the stairs and have drastic changes in vision.
I spent about 2 weeks in North Memorial Trauma center. My blood sugars were crashed a number of times. Toward the end of the second week they started therapy. I have had diarrhea for almost two weeks. No idea why.
Left Femur was fractured. I have a rod from my knee to my hip. No energy or hunger yet. Where I am now I get OT once per day and Pt twice per day. Since I have no continence of bladder or bowel I wear a diaper that has to be changed a lot.
I think that if my PCP had done the test that I asked for several months ago, I may have side stepped this bump. I am non-weight bearing for another 3 weeks. I can not go home until I am weight bearing.
I do not know when I will write again.

Aww Joe, so sorry to hear about your fall. We've missed you! Take care and I sure hope you make a fast recovery!
-
OMG JOE!
What a nightmare.
One that starts out terrible and goes downhill fast.
I hope things are looking like a road to recovery SOON.
The bowel and bladder thing sound like some nerve damage to your spine as well, sir.
But then I'm no doctor.
You are such a dignified man, this has to be very challenging for you, all around.
I gather that your leg actually broke and that's why you fell?
I know that often happens to hips, the hip fractures and then the fall occurs.
I didn't know about spontaneous breaks in the femur as well.
I hope they are controlling your pain as well as possible.
We are ALL SO GLAD to hear from you! Even with such a terrible series of events.
PLEASE keep us posted.
Hoping there are very good tones for you.
Hugs
Elaine

And as a very kind and wise man has said, BREATHE.
-
Joe, as the others have said, I am so sorry for all you are going through. One of those very tough and trying times. Everyone is so glad to hear from you just to know what has been going on.
I said a prayer for you to recover soon, and for you and your family to have better health, and peace.
You must have had a nasty fall. I am convinced that I have some kind of neuropathy in my intestines, but mine is more like nothing wants to happen.
Hope you get plenty of rest, and do whatever that helps keep down the stress.
God Bless
susanep :)

Sorry you've had a rough time. It's sounds like the next month or so will be difficult. Hopefully you can get online every now & then to help pass the time...and we'd love to hear from you.
I'm SO glad they are addressing your blood sugars. I think you'll feel better in general as they stabilize. You mentioned something about a test you ask your GP to run...what was it? Maybe you can get someone to run it now while you're there.
Please take care and know that we are ALL thinking about you.
-

Holy Smokes Joe!!!! I can't believe what I'm reading! You are quite the warrior! Get better soon.
-
Joe, So glad to hear that you are out of the hospital and onto stage 2 of this saga. You really gave us all a scare. Words about some health issues and you disappeared. We didn't know what the heck had happened.
Just goes to show us all that just one step can make a big difference in our lifes. Hope that they can get the bowel/bladder issues resolved. Did you damage your spine in the fall---or redamage your original spinal problems???
Give your wife a hug and tell her we are all thinking of both of you. Prayers are being said for your recovery. This has not been a good year so far, has it??? Never fear, things will get better. Your Minnesota friend, Irish ;D
-
Hi Joe!
I don't post much on here but I do read the posts frequently and always appreciate your insight and experiences you post! I am sending my thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery! It's very obvious that you are missed dearly by everyone here!
Get better soon!

with my pain medication I was able to hop in the parallel bars yesterday. I am not allowed weight on my left foot. my left femur was fractured enough to require a rod from my knee to my ball joint. The xray looked like the top of the bone is a crown. I seem to be improving every day that I am here.
The big concern is obstructed bowel. (Sjogren's?)I hope to clear it this weekend.
Thank you again for Prayers, positive thoughts and get well wishes. They all help.
-
Joe
I just want to add my get well soon wishes and hope you will be able to go home soon. Glad you are getting good care where you are.

-
Joe, so sorry to hear of your travails and glad that you are progressing.
As you may have guessed, :D I share your distrust of allopathic medicine. But some of my best friends are OT's and PT's. They make sense. And the ones I know have good senses of humor. Hope your OT/PT folks are good company.
Am listening to Prairie Home Companion as I type. Minnesotans know what really matters in life.
best,
beth

Joe,
I am sending positive thoughts to you and your wife. I hope that you have a speedy recovery and that you both are able to get some rest.

Joe, I'm sending many, many positive thoughts and well wishes for a speedy recovery. I am so sorry you have been through so much pain and misery - how frustrating and dangerous when our doctors don't listen to our concerns :(
I hope you are able to heal quickly and get back to us soon - we miss you around here!
-
Joe,
I hope you get better soon, I be praying for a fast recovery for you.
-
Hope you get well soon so you can get back home. So many of your posts remind me to be calm and to smile. Take care, it's so good to see you on the board again!
-
Joe, I was so worried about you when you vanished and we had no word as to what had happened.
It is so good to see you on the board again. I'm so sorry about your tumble down those stairs and thinking that it could have been worse. I know you are having such a difficult time and i hope that things improve for you quickly.
Take care of yourself.
-
Joe, it's great to hear you're making progress. It sounds as though you have a while for recovery, but you're up to the challenge.
As you see, you've got many people rooting you on! Hope that helps. :)
Sending positive thoughts and prayers to both you and Jan.

The care center that I am in is like having your own work out specialist. I hope to be able to build my upper body strength and endurance. Still working on the bowel issue. I hope that it resolves soon. Two weeks has been a challenge.
Jan brought in an old pair of glasses and I can see better. I still have dark spots that appear and disappear as I am trying to read. Being able to see better improves the world around you.
-
Joe, I'm so glad to hear you sounding like your old strong self! I couldn't be more proud of you if you were my own kid! :D
Big hugs, and I'm holding you in the light.
Get stronger!
-
Joe, please take good and gentle care of yourself.
You are one very special guy, much missed on these boards and we are all sending prayers for a speedy recovery.
