Hello fellow sjogren sufferers.  If has been a month or so since my last post.  I hope everyone is doing ok despite this horrible disease!
I had a quick question regarding edema and I hope someone can help.

For the past few months my feet have started to swell up.  Particularly at the end of the day.  Sometimes I could sware that they are turning purple but then it goes away.  I wake up in the morning each day now with  big puffy bags under my eyes and wonder "where the heck is this coming from"  I recently had some radiesse injected into my checks to plump me up and help me feel better about myself as I feel so frumpy and old,  but wonder if the puffy eyes are due to this.  I am not a spring chicken at 47, but I have never experienced this before.

Any bites out there on this topic?

Much appreciated,
Patzi

Hi!
You had some what injected into your face???  Is this some kind of medicine or beauty technique?? Cuz if it's for beauty I can tell ya now even without knowing what it is to leave it alone!! Yeah! I know about wanting to be pretty and wanting to make one's self feel better, BUT I also know NOT to take chances with much of anything besides the necessary foods and  medicines going into our bodies. Most of us are allergic to most things in and of this world, including OURSELVES!!!

If it's some kind of medicine, then cuse me! But I still would find out if this to be expected.

Chile you may just have to settle for a good make technique to make yourself feel good and leave those injections alone!!!!

Yeah! We have swollen feet and everything else, BUT YOURS sound like it may be an allergic reaction to that injection!

I hope by the time you've read this you have been to the ER to get that checked out, if not let's end this NOW so that you may do so!!!!!!!

Be Blessed!

Thanks Bernice for your response.  Yes I am sorry to say it is a beautification serum that I had done and have been doing for several years.  My sister is an esthetician  and we have both been using fillers for years to keep the wrinkles away.  Yes I know it is vain but some of us have difficulty aging.

After reading your post I have to say that I most definitely will take in to consideration not doing this anymore.   As this is my first time doing it after my recent diagnosis and do believe my body just isn't up to par anymore and may reject anything at this point.  Well goodbye botox, restylne and radiesse!

My question I guess is not so much the eye puffiness as I am quite happy with the filler results, but more so concerned about the new symptom of swelling feet which began way before the filler!

Peace Out,
Patzi

Patzi,

I've found that I get swelling in m hands & feet when it's very hot. It's possible that it has something to do with hydration (and dehydration), I'm not a doctor and I'm sure, but I do believe this is Sjogren's related. I've been working on staying cool (my body has trouble with extreme heat) and drinking lots of water and gatoraide.

As for the puffiness under your eyes, I have no idea. Could be related, could be something else.

Good luck!

Heather

Edema could be sign of a heart problem, or underactive thyroid (especially the puffy face sounds like thyroid).   You should get both checked out.  Good luck!

Hi Patzi,

Yes the swelling in feet could be sjogren's related.
I have it too. My rheumy thinks it might be due to arthritis type effects in the feet. He hasen't offered any meds for this yet - and I'd be reluctant to take them, due to side effects.

Puffyness under the eyes - oh well, I was almost borne with this. Had it surgically corrected 5 years ago. No side effects.
47, F. Lyme's Disease (1998), Primary Sjogren's & hypothyroidism (2003), DES-daughter, anxiety disorder.
Quetiapine, Livial, pilocarpine, natural thyroid hormones, supplements.
Dry mouth - dry eyes - dry skin - cherry hemangiomas - macules - uterine fibroids. Allergies: nickle, methylisothiazolinone

don't know, could be the filler, but puffy eyes and swollen feet can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism, also common w/ us?

Hi  :)

I'm with some of the above. Hypothyroidism immediately came to mind. Swollen feet and puffy eyes are both pretty classic symptoms. I'd definitely get it checked out.

as others have said you need to get it checked because it could also be heart related. Underactive thyroids and heart conditions can both be life threatening - so do go see. (Both can be treated!!)

Take care - Scottie  :)

Count me Number 8 to reply... 5 yrs ago when on oxygen 24/7 was at DUMCtr trying to be cleared by para-thyroid surgery w/tumor involvement. Lung specialist inquired 2 times as to whether I ever noticed a bluish color abt my edema feet. My answer, no...why?

And, he replied he thought it wise to 'bubble in on my heart', a test that probably would be available in my rural area in abt 5 yrs. Results indicated mild thickening in upper left ventricular of heart.

And, for all to know...his comment in later appt was that w/dedicated exercise (walking at a moderate pace) 6days for constant 30 mins could restore my heart muscle.; not 3 ten minutes segements I had been doing.

Yes, patzi, certainly believe I would check with a doctor since this was going on before your injection.

Patz,

Girl I know what you mean, I'm right behind ya! 46 and as the kids so proudly say, and a half! I'm thankful, but not the most proudest about it! ;D ;D

But seriously do get that check out!!

You made me think back to some allergic reactions I've had, some for beauty (creams), but most food!
Chile! I went to a pot luck at my church one time and came back with my face and head swollen twice it's normal size! Now! You can't pay me to eat at another potluck! Though I don't believe in luck, if I did I would say, mine ain't good enough to risk that again!.

Take Care!
Bernice

Do you have Raynaud's?  It can affect your feet as well as your hands.  My feet and hands definitely swell and sometimes turn red when it's hot.
SJS, Hashimoto's, Raynaud's
Plaquenil, Evoxac, Restasis, Levoxyl, fish oil supplements, Vitamin D, NSAIDs, prednisone when flaring
Tested positive for SS-A ( > 8 ) and ANA (>1:640)

Thanks to all you lovely people!  I will definitely get this checked out.  I am going to find a new GP as well.  He thinks I'm a hyperchrondiac!  All I am really doing is being my own health care advocate and trying to prevent things from getting worse.

Have a fabulous day!  Will keep you posted!

I can't believe the timing of this posting.  I have been scared the past few days due to swelling in both legs, ankles, and both feet. I have been out of town and not near my doctor.  I am putting a call in to my doc tomorrow.  I have been having issues with my thyroid numbers changing recently after 15 years on the same meds.
