Hi Everyone
« on: May 12, 2009, 05:50:26 PM »
Hi Everyone,

Since this is a new topic, I thought I'd start it off by introducing myself. I am quiger and was diagnosed in 2001. I've been around here for several years so most of you already know me although I don't post very often anymore. I'm a Midwesterner transplanted to Florida. Winters: nice, summers: not so hot, oops pun.  ;D  I still get a little freaked by the hurricanes but am learning to pay more attention to the weather here.

Since I had to stop working a few years ago, I thought "what am I going to do with all my time?" Wow, who was I kidding? I never have enough time, lol. Good thing I didn't want to write the great American novel. Between the critters and a retired hubby, they keep me busy. And, of course, I can't do anything as quickly as I used to, sigh. The Sjogren's and Fibro, among other things, can really slow me down. Don't you hate it when that happens?

I hope you will come and share your everyday happenings and smiles with us. Whether it's a retreat you have experienced with a link to some great pictures, or whatever you would like to share, welcome to "The Social Hour".

Hugs to all,
quiger

Hey Quiger, nah, I'll keep it clean (for a change!)! ;) ;D

Kimbo, you are a gem, thanks for making me smile!

People have referred to me as having some "hillbilly" in me, could very well be! :D ;D   Arkansas is a pretty state, been there a time or two, or even three! ;)

Take care -

Hi Quiger

Thank you for telling us about yourself. I know you are here working away so hard on our behalf, but didn't know anything about you.

We have been to Florida once, en-route to a Caribbean cruise for our 30 wedding anniversary. It was an amazing temperature, even though it was December. We hope to come back some day.

Tell me about the critters. We have two 'seniors' - a 14 year old ginger terrier and a 15 year old black moggie. They are both rescue animals, and they rle the roost. The terrier has been fighting my hubbie on the carpet in front of the fire tonight. He loves a little scrap every now and then. Hubby is shattered now ;D

Hi Kathy,

Yes, the temps here in December are wonderful. Right now it is hot.  It will be a long summer. The heat and humidity took alot of getting used to.

We have a black lab that we fostered from a rescue shelter last year. He grew on us so we just recently adopted him. We, and I use the term "we" loosely, also have three cats. They are all so pretty. The first one showed up a couple of months before my beloved doggy passed. She was little and hungry so we kept her, a real pretty calico. Then hubby thought she needed a playmate so we went to a rescue shelter and adopted a pretty little calico for a playmate. This girl has such long hair it almost hangs on the floor. She's a beauty. Well, the first kitty was too independent and wasn't thrilled to have her as a playmate.Hubby thought the new kitty needed a playmate so, yep you guessed it, we adopted yet another kitty. He is a beauty, grey and white, long hair. Turned out neither of the girls liked him at all, sheesh. Now they all get along well, but Grayson, the newest kitty, does still play a little rough. Oh, did I mention that I am allergic to cats?  ;D But I wouldn't trade them for anything. Our doggy had spent two years in a cage at the rescue shelter before we took him home to foster him. We've had him for a year now and the change in him is so amazing. He has developed such a personality now. When our doggy passed at the age of fourteen, I knew I could never have another dog. But, we fostered a golden retriever until he was adopted, waited a short time then fostered this guy. Needless to say, our house is now full.

I bet your doggy is amazing. I hadn't heard of a ginger terrier so I looked them up. What a pretty dog. Your black moggie must be such a nice kitty. No wonder they rule the roost. They always find a way to rule the house and they soon learn how to play us. They have us eating right out of their paws. Don't you love it when they show their teeth and smile real big? It's priceless.

I hope you are having a nice weekend.

Hi Quiger

Yes, an animal smile is wonderful. They also know how to show their displeasure - Jaffa, the dog, shows us his butt when he is fed up. Thekittie just ignores us - except for feeding time, and then she is like a little vulture.

On a working note, I think I must have pressed a button somewhere, as now I'm not getting any alerts when my posts of have been answered. Please can you tell me how to make it right?

Patze, it's your silliness that gets some of us through some rough days. It's all part of your charm.  ;D

Thank goodness for the great sense of humor of all the staff and members.

Quiger are you floating away over there?  My nephew left with his family on Saturday for a Disney vacation and have been rained on everyday.  Looks like the monsoon season is here!

Hi Sal,

The wind has been bad for several days but the rain hasn't started yet. They are saying it will be any time. My daughter and family are coming from the center of the state for the holiday weekend tomorrow. She said it has been raining there since around Sunday. I don't like the idea of them driving in it on such a busy holiday, but her hubby insists they will be fine. Looks like we will have our grilling inside since the rain is supposed to continue through next week.

We need rain, but really, lol. I hope our garden survives. Oh well, it could be worse, at least it isn't a hurricane.  ;D I hope you are doing okay over there. Usually you get it first and send it to me. Looks like it may be the other way around this time. Hopefully the humidity hasn't been too hard on you.

Take care of yourself. Hope to see you in the chat room when you get a chance.

Hugs,
quig
