Swollen and Sore Chin - Sjogren's or What?
« on: April 20, 2008, 12:40:39 PM »
I am a newbie and because of this I am asking a lot of questions.  I had asked yesterday about the area under the chin, but today I have a different question about the chin area.  I noticed yesterday that the area right underneath my mouth was sore, sort of like I was getting a pimple.  This area kept waking me up during the night hurting.  It was warm to the touch and very sore.  Well today, it is the size of Manhattan!!  Seriously, this "bump" is as wide as my mouth and covers from the area right under the bottom of my lip to the jaw bone.  I have had these "bumps" off and on for the last 8 to 10 months.  They will not form a head like a pimple or risen does, but are underneath the skin.  I know this is gross, but they will ooze a clear type liquid.  What is this?  Does it have to do with my Sjogren's or is it just a HUGE pimple?  I just wondered if this is something I need to discuss with my doctor or is it just this 47 year old body of mine having weird teenage-type pimples.

I would like to hear if anyone knows anything about this or can advise me about what can help get rid of it or help it not to hurt so badly.  It is VERY sore and HUGE.

Thank you.

Hi Mompain  :)

You can never ask too many questions!  That doesn't necessarily mean you'll get all the answers though!

What you describe sounds awfully like an infection to me - especially with it feeling hot. I really think you need to see your doc about it because if it is an infection you probably need antibiotics. (I am NOT medical) Please go see about it.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi!

Ive not had anything like this before....but since you mention heat in the area and how fast it came on...I would agree with Scottie and go have it looked at by your Doctor. Better to be safe than sorry! And if it is infected...the sooner you can get an antibiotic in you the better.

Please let us know how you are doing! I hope you get some answers and relief very soon!

If it was me I would get in to the doc and get that area checked. Pimples can do some weird things, but when they are on the face and get infected the blood stream is pretty close to the brain. Infection untreated would not be good. Also, if it is no infection it might still be good for the doc to check it out.

A person can get some really bad infections on the face. Does it drain green at all? Staph infection is always something to be concerned about.. We should never squeeze pimples on our face. The squeezing process can send the infection out into the blood stream. Let us know what happens with this please. Irish ;D
