Restasis question
« on: June 12, 2020, 09:18:54 AM »
I guess I am being a little paranoid but could Restasis put us at risk for COVID 19?? I was worried because it is an immunosuppressant and you can catch COVID through the eyes, I stopped using mine. It took a while but the dryness is coming back.

Has anyone else had this paranoid thought???? I think I am going to break down and start using it again. I don't think dry eyes are a good thing either.

Thanks, hope everyone is doing well these days.

I have been told by my Eye specialist not to use restasis for several reasons.
first of all it helps only those who have dry eyes for other reasons. We have dry eyes because of a disease. So first get plugs in your tear ducts. the go on a regemin of Systane eye scrubs and a spray that I got from my doctor.

I just had my yearly eye check up and the doc said to keep using the restasis as it was really helping my eyes!  You do not want your eyes to dry out!

It is such a strange time.  Best bet is to always ask your doc.

Thanks for the replies.

Glad the restates is helping your eyes Confused!!!

I was put on restates before I had the diagnosis of Sjogrens, actually. They work for me. I just threw caution to the wind and started using them again.

Yes, these are difficult times with COVID right now.

Well wishes to everyone!!!!

I do believe that the Restasis will help rather than hurt. The Restasis is a immune suppressant and the doctors are now treating the Covid with a drug that has immune suppressant/anti-inflammatory effects to treat the Covid. They are also treating the sicker Covid patients with steroids. They have found that the blood vessels in the lungs and maybe elsewhere in the body are developing vasculitis. This is oner of the bad things that contributed to the death of many of the older patients.

Covid is a very weird disease as it is viral with autoimmune effects. Doctors are finding more all along. This morning I heard a doctor say that some of of her recovered covid19 patients are now coming down with pneumonia and have had to be hospitalized with ventilators. This bug just seems to hang on so people need to be watchful for symptoms that could come on after recovery.

Hope all goes well. Methinks
