There is a lupus that affects the skin and I can't think of the name now. It causes lesions and then scars as it heals. Also, losing hair on top of your head is a very common autoimmune issues. I have been struggling with hair loss for about one year and am thinking of getting a wig as my hair is so brittle it breaks off. My beauty shop said my hair is terrible and they will not perm my hair either. I wear pigtails and a mans cap now. I have had too many health issues going on and getting a wig is not high on my list. It probably bothers others more than it b bothers me. Irish

P.S, Have you been to a dermatologist, a skin specialist, this would be your best bet rather than trying to self medicate and have other doctors offering their opinion.

I think you are thinking of Lupus Pernio, Irish. My Father was diagnosed with that in the 1970s and other than "a ruddy complexion" and some difficult to heal skin lesions, he had no major complaints. I have Sarcoidosis as part of my boxed set of AI, and have very similar symptoms, so I'm wondering after the fact which of us was properly diagnosed (my Dx was the result of an "ambiguous" biopsy result.

The hair loss is also very common, my then 9 year old granddaughter (with the beautiful deep red hair that drew comments all the time) suffered through a bald spot on her crown for nearly a year, started spontaneously at about 2 cm and progressed to about 5 until it spontaneously resolved. She was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, with no suggestions as to whether it would recur or not. She was a champ though, got her sister to do a henna tattoos in the spot and helped me design some "really cool" slouch hats made from old t-shirts! To be honest, her mother and I probably suffered more LOL

Linda, Today my brain remembered (I think) and I think it was called discoid lupus. I am thinking this is what the singer Seal has that has scarred his face. May be wrong cause my memory isn't as good as it was. Also, I think I forget a little more since my Gram negative sepsis. I did have a low o2 dat of 80% but I don't  know how long. Also, really tend to blame antibiotics cause I had quite a few in order to overlap hours with 2 or 3 running to help kill the bacteria. I am allergic to penicillin so took a little rigging. I went him on Levoquin and then some Cipro land that could have done it also. Thanks. irish
