THE MOVE
« on: December 01, 2017, 02:37:58 PM »
hi to all.

Some may recall a post I made concerning a house we intended to buy (sept 2015)
that a week before closing we were given the keys to and we discovered
a wet moldy basement...with soil coming into from the outside and all 4 basement windows
the glass was gone. we backed out.

well...we bought a 1920 bungalow last year and we worked on it till a few months ago
(I didn't but hubby did and what workers we hired here and there). we moved into the house
on October 30th and we just sold/closed on our old house last week.

It was tiring and all I had to do was tell people where to put things and what I packed
I did from sitting down on a small stool. It was difficult and a mental strain on all the
little details such as collecting empty boxes, newspapers, changing address to all
banks , utilities , insurance, relatives...etc.......

However, I am happy to report I did not experience any bad effects to my health.
No flares...no illness of any kind. Just a bone/muscle weariness of having a good
workout. I worried about my health going kaput during this important time but
I was spared.

I will be 60 in December and I feel this is our last move other than to a seniors apt.
or nursing home...which I hope that doesn't happen.

take care all.

Shelly - congrats on your new home!  I've never moved lock, stock, and barrel into another home - but, I'm sure it is a daunting task.  When I moved from OH to IL when I got married, I only brought what I could fit in my car (no furniture - just boxes).

I'm glad you noticed the moldy basement before you moved in to the other house from 2015 - that would have been awful.

Now that you've had a little over a month in your new home - how's everything?  Have you gotten all the boxes all sorted out and some unpacked?

I hope you new home brings you and your hubby much happiness.

Bucky

HI Bucky.

Everything is in its place. We even managed to have Thanksgivng and Christmas in our
New home...we somehow got it done.

Packing and moving did force me to eliminate lots of stuff we have accumulated over the years.
It was liberating to give some things away.

Spring will be here soon and then we can get started on the outside.....fun...fun.

Glad you ate settled and happy and able to downsize. This is a big step isn't it. Lots of stress and the potential for killing ourselves with overwork is very hard to deal with. We want to do it all but our body isn't able. Good luck. Irish

I moved into my coop apartment the first of February and am still not settled. I have most of my things but can't work very long at a time so it is taking me forever. I have to get a different  desdkn for my computer that is smaller and they are hard to find lately.

Hard to pick out what ti through and what to keep. My house is pretty much empty upstair but need to do a lot of cleaning and paint the registers. Basement needs cleaning up after the stuff is thrown..most of it. I am hoping to save some flower pots and yard stuff and do a little bit out at the farm. I can have 2 flower pots outside the window of my apartment so hope to do that.

Hard to get much down with health issues. We are all in the same boat. Good luck. Irish

To anyone who is moving plan ahead and stay calm. Easy to say, that is for sure but things will go wrong. I did 4 long distance moves with moving companies when I was young and was very organized. In my "golden years" the ability to organize isn't working as well. Such is life. Good luck.

Caroline, I wanted to get a mac laptop but couldn't feel the keyboard as the keys are so flat. Irish

Shelley, congratulations on the move and that it's all over with!!!! And, you didn't have a flare up or get sick. That's a blessing.

I am going through a similar thing with moving and putting a house up for sale. OMG! I am stressed out at trying to keep this place clean and straight. A lot of it is me being too perfectionistic. We've moved a lot and I am also hoping this is our last  move. I am going to retire and I just need some peace and  tranquility in my life. Our house isn't even officially listed yet and the realtor is asking to show it. Ugh!!!   Maybe it will sell fast. To me, the packing and moving part is all downhill.  All I can do is pray I hold out. If not, we'll have to hire someone to pack.   I wish I could just call Goodwill and ask them to empty the garage of my husband's junk. That is what holds us up every time!

I hope in a few months, I will sound like you do now! Congratulations!

Hi Deb27.

You'll make it through...even if you think you can't.  I never got sick or flare up but it still
Was hard for Me.  I agree, the hardest part was keeping it presentable for people to go through,
one time I only got 20 minutes notice. You find your self agreeing to things like this b/c you think
these my be the potential

I had a foot stool that I tossed things in when I had a showing ( like mail,  library books,  sewing jobs ).
Never left dirty dishes in sink....hide them in dishwasher. Keep kitchen trash taken out....
I no longer have kids at home so that helps but we have a dog.....his toys are strewn about so I throw them in the foot stool too.  On days with no showings....start taking things to Goodwill/Salvation Army, put stuff to the curb for
People to possibly take....then junk to the trash dumpster.

Keep me posted on how it's going.
Breathe....Breathe.....

Shelley, we got lucky and our house sold the first day!!!!! But, that meant a mad dash to pack up and get ready for a move to another state. Whew!!! I did have flares from the stress and not sleeping but I am ok now.

I kept wondering why we have so many possessions!!! It has taken 3 trucks and since one of them was small, we have to do another truck tomorrow but it's just some left over junk I tried to get my hubby to throw out. It's going to cost more to rent the truck than the value of the things moved! But, he wants to do it.

Now we are unpacking. I am not overdoing it, just taking it as it comes.

The biggest change is that I retired. I will have to get used to a routine. I am getting more sleep, which is great. It feels odd not having a routine. I'll get one when we are done unpacking. Lots of plans to exercise and walk the dogs!!!

Hope you are doing well in your new home and enjoying it!!!

Just to bring up more info on moving. I moved into my coop in Feb and still have things all over the place to put away. I have not had the energy to get it all done due to health issues, surgeries, etc. However, I have also been trying to get to the house at least 4 days a week and working on some things that I can do. My DIL has worked like a trooper and I could not have done it without her. My boys have all put in hours also but DIL is the one who has stepped up and done so many little things that I couldn't do.

Well, it all culminated ad I signed the realtors agreement and in a couple of days had it sold. Hard to believe. Property is selling like crazy in our part of the state for some reason. Should close in about 4-5 weeks, but this is not my first real estate deal and it ain't over til the money is in the bank.

P.S. How about these hot couple of days and tomorrow is to be 96 degrees. Thank goodness for air conditioning. Have a good holiday. Irish

I will be tasked with grilling outside today. I hope there will be a breeze. Where I grill is in the shade of our variegated maple. It is in the middle of a patio area and provides a nice place to eat out during the summer.

Our Daughter just sold her house. Listed and shown on Friday and accepted on Saturday evening after looking at several offers. They will have a double closing with the new house they purchased. Going from a three bed room 2 bath to a four bedroom three bath. (I think it may be a McMansion with its three car garage.)

Jan and I will soon be financing our home to cover remodeling and repairs. New water heater, water softener, bay window, siding and driveway. Maybe add a 1/2 bath if there is enough money.

I would like to add a natural gas standby generator with an automatic cut over to end area power outages. The 5500 watt gas generator sitting in the back has helped reduce them to shorter and fewer. I am told that we can not add solar.

If we live in a hofun.use long enough all the spendy things need to be redone. Very disgusting I think. Sounds like you are getting house ready for years ahead plus for selling when the time comes. Any remodeling is daunting and things are so expensive.

Your deck area sounds . Glad your daughter had good luck with buying and selling. Three garages would be great. Remember when most of us didn't have a garage growing up or early on after we married. Take care. Irish
