Your Dna
« on: April 06, 2017, 03:08:07 PM »

hi all.

My daughter has always been interested in family history/records.
I am sad that we never really asked or encouraged my grandparents about
their country (County Mayo Ireland, Ballinrobe parish). After their deaths (1980's)
all Ireland/Wales/Scotland correspondence was thron out.

My daughter even went to Ireland (see above) and stayed her 7 days
at their library and at St Marys church...looking and recording info.

So.....for her birthday I thought I'll get her one of those DNA tests you see
on TV....so she can see whats on her dads side.

To my amazement....she doesn't want to do it. I already had it sent to her.
She said it was a neat idea but she then told me conspiracy stories,
etc...on it.

Has anyone else done this test???

I am female, and wanted to track the male side of my paternal side, I had my brother's done.  It didn't connect me to anyone in my extensive lineage.  Many people are successful and happy with results.  Check Ancestry.com for info---though you needn't go thru their services.  They happen to have the largest database.

I have done the 23and me test 3 years ago before the fda severly limited what they were allowed to report. The fda is slowely realizing the good they do on their research and is allowing them to report on more finding. I also participate in their research, as are countless others, by answering a lot of surveys. By doing this the researchers have already found a lot of answers! After I ran my dna test I registered at livewello who runs a more in depth program using the data from 23 and me. It gives alot of medical info and tell if you got it either from father or mother's side or both.
Unfortunately you will find that conspiracy theorist will not change their minds. My best friend is one and I'm always shaking my head when I hear him talk.

 thanks you gals for answering.

I told her to give me the back the kit/ box I had shipped to her and
either me, my husband or her younger sister will do it. I paid
$99.00 for it, by golly someone has to do it.........

She said she read (online of course) that the DNA kit I got her was in US but
was selling your results to pharms......giving personal genetics hx to insurance
companies,  they were not to do that...so they moved out of US to another
country to continue their nefarious ways.
