Ingy54, yes both of my wrists and thumb joints do hurt. Some days worse than others. Not sure which it is, I get so tired of having so many different aches, pains etc I get sick of telling the drs. IMAK sells arthritis gloves with the finger tips off, they have just a slight compression to them. I find these are helpful if I am having a tough time in general with my wrists, fingers, and hands.

Take care,

Yes, I have this and have had CMC joint surgery on both thumbs. I never  thought of it being Sjogrens related, but who knows. You should see a Orthopaedist who specialises in hands.

Wrists, yes?  I am 72 and have had wrist weakness thus overuse pains LONG before computers.  Fingers and thumb pain in cold.  Cold hands most of time, but not pain like others speak of in the digits.  Is it related to SjS?  Who knows?  Seems worse now, but I am older now.

Hi and welcome back!  I have painful swollen wrists and was told by my rheumy (for me anyway) it is tendonitis - he gave me some voltaren gel which takes the pain away and reduces the swelling.

If you have an upcoming appt with your rheumy mention it to him/her to get their take on it.

At present I do not have arthritis or at least have not been diagnosed as having it...

Hoping you can find some relief soon.  Keep us posted.

"I'm having a problem with my wrists and thumb joints and I was wondering if it was due to arthrosis or SS??"

Hi Ingy,

I have inflammatory arthritis (not diagnosed with RA, although RA is an inflammatory arthritis) that is part of my SS.  This affects mostly my knuckle areas and wrists. I also have a pretty long history of osteoarthritis in my fingers.

Different treatments for both conditions.  I don't know if the osteo is part of the SS but I believe not.

Ingy ..... I have wrist pain and pain at the base of my thumb (also my finger joints). My Rheumatologist ordered wrist, hand, and finger X-rays and the radiologist said it was Osteoarthritis. However, while my Rheumatologist agrees that I have OA, and she thinks the wrist and base of thumb pain is from OA, she said she thinks some of my finger joint pain is inflammatory and that I have both in my fingers (OA and inflammatory arthritis).

Hi

I also have thumb and wrist pain, diagnosed as OA and carpel tunnel syndrome. Recently, I've been seeing an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist. They have given me some wrist/thumb splints to wear in bed, and some less rigid supports to wear as needed during the day. These have helped a lot.

In addition, I had a wax bath treatment for my hands and wrists yesterday. It was wonderful. The physio recommended I buy a wax bath and wax to use at home. I'm hoping to do that, once I find a product from a reputable store online.

Might be worth considering, if you are in a lot of pain with your hands.

My wrists and hands give me a fair amount of trouble - some is autoimmune-related and some is not - it's just mechanical/tendon strain/etc.

If I wake up in the morning with stiff, achy, clumsy hands, it is often the first sign of a flare in my lupus/sjs - kind of the "canary in the coal mine".

They also get sore from over-use or strain, but it feels a little different. Sore, but without the clumsiness...if that makes any sense.

Hope that helps, and that you feel better soon!!!

Count me in.  Wrists, thumb joint, and elbow. Gets way worse with flare.  Hard to lift water glass sometimes-not good - lol.  Carpel issues were ruled out.

Something you can do on your own is

getting an over the counter hot wax appliance at your pharmacy

that you dip your hands and wrists in it for the healing relief of warmth.

I use those hot patches that you peel off and place

where ever you ache...they work.

When I get really touchy sore wrists I see my rheumy

for injections into my wrist.

Thanks for all of your answers, I have been operated on both hands for the Carpal Tunnel so it could be due to that but I'm going to try some Voltaran Gel and do some Physiotherapy and take it from there! :)
