White streaks inside mouth
« on: July 14, 2011, 09:52:30 AM »
I have white streaks inside on my cheeks.  It has begun to hurt and is a bit irritated.  I have not irritated it myself.  I saw an ENT who blew it off the same way he blew off getting a lip biopsy for SJS.  I insisted on the biopsy after 1.5 yrs and it was positive just like I knew it would be.   I think I should get a second opinion on these lesions.  Anyone have any suggestions?  It could be leukoplakia?  I had precancer on my tongue 3 yrs ago on the same side and leukoplakia on my tongue also.  I have multiple immune issues and I feel like dog crap all the time but I LOOK GOOD.   Grrrrrr.

Thrush is quite common in those with Sjogren's.  I'm actually battling it now.  It can cause burning on the tongue or mouth, white patches, etc.  I have been prescribed Oravig.  I place one tablet every day under the cheek/lip of my top teeth and it slowly dissolves over the course of the day.   A bit annoying at first, but not too bad after a while.  The course is 14 days.  I haven't finished yet, but hope it works.

Your ENT should have been able to address this for you.  Time to find someone new...IMO

I have raised white streaks inside my cheeks, and they also swell up when my throat issues start up. It's very uncomfortable but no doctor can/will help address it...

I am interested in the others' replies on this.

I agree that these issues should be addressed somewhat.  I feel totally brushed off and this is painful.  My tongue has burned for 2.5 yrs!   It upsets me.  The whole medical thing upsets me.  I'm gonna move on...again and again ..until someone tries to help.  Thanks

Hi Mickey,

Absolutely, a doc should be addressing this instead of blowing it off.  If you had leukoplakia before is there a way you can be seen by whomever treated you then?

I hope you can find a doctor to help. I'm not a medical professional, but it could be leukoplakia or possibly thrush. You may know it can also cause painful, burning streaks or patches. Either way, since you are in pain it needs to be addressed by someone.
I wish you well...yes, keep moving on...I know it gets old.
Take care,
