I too have Achalasia! I was having increasing problems with swallowing that was misdiagnosed as GERD. I was having trouble swallowing and having to push food down my esophagus only to feel it rise up again after a meal. I regurgitated or vomited almost every night depending how much I ate. All my barium swallowing tests and endoscopies were normal. It wasn’t until I lost more than 50lb that the gastroenterologists finally ordered a 24hour ph test with manometry testing that the problem was found.   Apparently my lower esophageal sphincter pressure was too tight and I had a jackhammer esophagus causing my esophagus to constantly spasms.  I had POEM surgery last year November and am doing much better now and even gained some of the weight back. I no longer have any problems swallowing and the jackhammer is finally gone.

So glad you got that problem solved. That is really hard on the esophagus...regurging is not good for the weight or the esophagus. Glad that they finally figured it out. So me times we have to be miserable a long time before a problem is solved. Good luck. Irish

I HAVE HAD BURNING TONGUE AND SWALLOWING ISSUES.  (I APPOLOGIZE FOR USING CAPS,HAND AND SIGHT PROBLEMS)   I TOO WORKED WITH A SWALLOWING SPECIALIST.  THEY CAN GIVE YOU TIPS ABOUT THE FOODS WE EAT.  IVE HAD TROUBLE WITH MY ESOPHAGUS.  OVER TEN YRS. AGO, I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CREST.   I RARELY EAT ANY THING SPICEY.  I ENJOY SOFT FOODS.   ASK YOUR RHEUMY TO LOOK OVER YOUR SYMPTOMS AND TESTS.
