Ear Ringing? What to do?
« on: January 18, 2011, 01:33:41 AM »
Hey,

One more silly question.  My ears are ringing off the hook. I went to the Dr. today and she said I had a little fluid in them and a little sinus infection. She gave me antibiotics and will see me in 10 days. Does this ringing ever stop? Is there anything else I can do to make this better?  Plus I have to worry about the antibiotics now giving me yeast infections. My mouth is finally doing much better, and I'm so afraid that the sores are going to come back.  If its not one thing its another...No wonder we suffer from depression....

Thanks,
Sandisue

My father has had ringing in his ears for about a year now. His seen a ENT specialist and I think a brain specialist. He has had MRI. Cat Scan and x-rays and all his sinuses are clear. He has a few marks on the brain cannot remember the technical term but the specialists do not know the cause of the ringing.

I hope yours stops soon as I know it's horrible to go through it.

Hi Sandisue,

I have tinnitus in both ears and it often drives me bonkers.  It started in the left ear more years ago than I want to admit to, and the right one started a few years ago.    What bothers me is that they are on different frequencies, and it can get pretty bad some days (thank goodness for the CPAP machine at night, it sort of cancels out the noise).

I've seen a couple of ENTs and neither one knew what caused it; in my family, I'm the only one that has it, lucky me. :-\

I too hope that yours disappears soon!

Take care of yourself -

Hi Sandisue , Get you some acidoliphus at the drugstore to off set the antibiotic.  Puts good bacteria back in body that antibiotic destroys as it is killing the 'bug'    Good luck

Hi Sandisue:

Ear ringing can be caused by several things, including some medications, most commonly aspirin.   Tho' not too many people take much aspirin any more.

Here's a site that is fairly comprehensive.

http://uimc.discoveryhospital.com/main.php?id=3072

My ringing (tinnitus) preceded and accompanies age related hearing loss.

When I wear my hearing aids during the day, I don't hear it so much, but at night or without my hearing aids, the noise is really astounding!

Do tell your doctor and do track the occurrences.

Keep us posted, Sandisue.

I've had tinnitus for years now, the ringing is 24/7.  I had a lot of ear infections as a kid, and years of playing in rock bands and going to heavy metal concerts w/out earplugs messed my ears up.  My left one I can hardly hear out of, can't hold a phone to it or voices sound muffled.

I work in a noisy environment and I play music when I'm home.  I can hear it all the time, but it's louder when my environment is quiet.  I've learned to tune it out and not let it bother me.  I don't think there's much else that can be done...

I get ringing in my ears too, especially the right one. I don't notice it during the day, just at night when I'm trying to fall asleep.
It's not all the time though...it comes and goes.
It tends to start up if I have a cold with sinus/ear congestion or if my parotid glands are acting up.
I wonder if swelling or inflammation in the general ear area can affect the ringing?

I don't know how to stop it though, hopefully yours will settle down!

Only thing I do about my ears ringing is that every so often I say in a VERY loud voice ... 'would someone answer the darn phone!' and then I laugh ... and everyone laughs.  Nothing I can do about it.  I guess it's there to stay until I'm dead and things can be quiet.

If you have it for a long time, you get to hear a variety of ring tones. They seem to change during the day. I some times have people repeat things so I can read their lips. Some times I just can not make sense of what they are saying. Shouting does not help.

Sorry you all have this problem, but it's nice to know I am not alone and not crazy! I have this for years but it has been very bad in the last year. It seems to correspond to inflammation for me. My dr gave me Rozerum so I could fall asleep, it is so loud. My ears also make a repetitive clicking sound and occasionally a sound like a telegraph. Your posts made me laugh - almost worth having tinnitus!
