Sorry to bother! 1 more ? about labs
« on: December 23, 2010, 04:47:50 AM »
First of all I know yall arent doctors but yall seem to be some of the smartest people I know. Earlier I posted because my dr had to move my apt to next week but

she went ahead and gave me my labs. Im frustrated because my labs seem normal.

Just 1 more ?

it says antibodies IgG/IgA      mine is 2

refrence range   0-19

then it says <20 negative
weak positive 20-39
moderate positive 40-59
strong positive >59

does this mean Im negative? and what does that mean? if im correct isnt it good to be negative for us, to prove that we really dont feel good or am I totally wrong??

THANK YOU

normal is 0-19,, yours is 2,,,, <20 is negative,, yes your normal,, at least in that test,, well what i;m saying is you are in the NORMAL range,, exactly what most of us are, and no were not crazy,, we hurt and kow things are going on in our bodies, until they come up with some specilized test,, I guess were normal

You can be ill from something OTHER than an autoimmune disorder.  There are tens of thousands of diagnoses other than autoimmune diagnoses.

My first guess if you have Sicca would be Neuropathy or Medication induced Sicca.  After that there are many other things, including pre-clinical Sjogren's, which means in maybe 5-10 years you will seroconvert.  Sicca with no abnormal blood work, can be caused from computers and other lit screens.  Given people work on computers so much, it is becoming more common.  People who are seronegative with severe Sicca will more likely than not, have PN, of which dysautonomia is a component, responsible for many organ systems being affected and also severe fatigue.  (Many with + markers have it too.)

A 'range' means that normal values are found in it....so if your number is in a 'range' it is fine.

If it says > than, then it means if your value is greater than it is abnormal.  >20 is abnormal for that lab.

If it is under <, then under that level is abnormal.

It looks like they ruled out any serum abnormalities, and they will likely tell you that you have Fibromyalgia.  You can always go get a skin biopsy for nerve fiber density to see if it shows nerve fiber degeneration and/or autonomic testing which will show dysautonomia.  This will need to be done at an academic center.  If you have fiber loss, then you have PN.

If not, then it is up in the air as to what you have.

Im going to take a stab at putting things in perspective...don't shoot me ;)

Flutterfly tested negative across the board but is much sicker than I! How fair is that?

History:

I went in for thrush and had the right blood work ran at the right time where my doc dx me with sjogrens (positive ANA and SSA). I also just went to the ophthamologist yesterday who also listens very well and he did the schreimer test which made him put plugs in. So I have 3 positive things that point to sjogrens. I go to seattle on the 4 th of january for my first rheumy appointment so he can rule out or add other AI issues.

Remember we are identical twins~ here is my point~

Just cause flutterfly tests negative across the board and I don't, don't mean I am sicker....she is obviously sicker than I am and to add to it, she has no answers! I wish that we would all just wake up one day and have a neon sign in front of us flashing a dx!

I hope you don't give up looking for answers! Sometimes it just takes being in a flare and having the right bloodwork done at the right time!

Love ya all!

Hey guys, this is the kind of message thread that neatly encapulates the very best of Sjogren's World. Well-researched facts from Inga, support and love from everyone.

Tanya, like the others said -it's not that you're "normal".
It's that they're just doing the wrong darn tests.

Please don't give up on getting answers. I'm in the same boat, I'll see a specialist neuro for neuropathy testing in February, thanks to Inga's input. Sounds like you should too  :)
