I'm an Armed Forces mutt, I guess. My dad was a USAF pilot in Korea, my stepdad was in the Navy in ww2, my husband was in the Coast Guard in the 7os during Vietnam, my BIL and oldest son both were Navy, my nephew is USAF, an anesthesiologist in Afghanistan.

My oldest was the fist in our city to pass the BUDS in 10 years. The recruiter called us to tell us before my son even got the news. He was in week 6 of SEAL training, past heck Week, and ruptured his eardrum in a dive. They motioned him to the surface and sent him to the infirmary. He asked why, and they had to show him the blood coming out of his ear. He never felt it, it was such a small rupture. They told him he was out, so sorry. He was really pi**ed, and wanted to know why they don't test you for that before you even GO.  The recruiter called us to tell us that, too. Everything went downhill after that. He couldn't get into air traffic control school until the next class formed, so he was deployed on the Sacramento, an AOE1 and went to Japan to replace the Kitty Hawk. By the time they came back from being fwd  deployed, he was told his upper register hearing was shot, and he didn't qualify for ATC school anymore. So he spent the rest of his time as a replenishing specialist,  swinging supplies onto other ships in heavy seas. The whole thing was a disappointment to him in the end--although he did qualify Expert on every weapon the Navy has!

Hi Bucky and all my fellow Sjoggies

I'm inspired by your 10 minute adventures. Nature is beautiful, and it's great to hear the stories of nature from so many different places.

I did do a 10 minute walk in my lunchtime on day one. The spring flowers are still in their tubs in ths neck of the world, and I was delighted to see all the different varieties in the estate near work. Unfortunately, I think I've gone back to work too soon following the surgery, and am now in one of those 'too tired to drag your feet' phases , so I might just have to sit outside for 10 minutes over the next few days.

However, your inspirational descriptions about different birds have prompted me to find a bird book, so that I can see what types there are around here. I'm such an ignoramus here birds are concerned!

Anyway, Mrs Bucky, I am truly thankful that you have set us this challenge.

I have to be outside, to walk my dogs or see to the horses.  But I do it with a different mindset, thanks to Miss Bucky  ;D

The swallows are nesting in the haybarn again, and they are using the hair from my horses, that they are shedding as spring arrives (late) here.  They seem to prefer brown fur to grey fur  ;D   Maybe Lincoln's fur is softer?

I walked the dogs a longer way yesterday, through the woods near our home.  Chloe ran so much!!!!   It is a delight to see all 3 dogs having so much fun, chasing and playing.

I am absolutely shattered as my work is way too busy at the moment.  But spring is on it's way, the days are longer and I am going on holiday at the end of May, so I have a nice rest to look forward to  ;D    xx

Hi Bucky :
I am so glad you are doing this.  Exercise and fresh air is so important for the mind and body.  There is no substitute.

I get out enough to keep my sanity and body moving everyday.  Without it, I don't sleep well, all the clinical symptoms gets worse.

So a big thank you!

Had to spend my 10 minutes tonight in the garden, trying to clean up from the winter.  Would have gotten out for longer but we had to unexpectedly go into town today.  Seems just before we got home this Spring a local Grouse decided to fly thru our dining window so today the replacement sash came in and we had to pick it up and install it so took up most of the day.  It is so nice now to be able to sit at the table and see the garden, and hubby can see the bird feeder from his spot which he has sorely missed in the mornings!   :)

This was a beautiful day to be outside here. I got a lot of walking in, but may regret it tomorrow.

Good luck on learning the birds, Kathyx. It's a struggle for me, beyond the most common ones. But I do love hearing them and watching them come and go. If you sit still long enough, you can really appreciate that they have whole lives of their own, and see the world in their own way. (This is mostly while I'm weeding.)

Well for my 10 minutes outside I sat and also watched the birds and squirrels.  I also watched the helicopter seeds falling from the maple tree, it is amazing how nature made them fall and land in the grass with the seed down so they can grow.  Also watched my granddaughter making BIG bubbles, she calls the big ones jello bubbles.  Well I wonder what I will learn tomorrow.

Went to a school retirees luncheon today and walked around and looked at the restaurants landscaping while waiting on the others to come. It was high of 83 here in ETN today.

Day 3

Happy Friday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 3 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

To date, we have 36 members who are participating in our little adventure.   :D

This morning is a wet one here in Central IL.  Guess we can't have sunshine ALL the time.   ;)  The weeds in my flower beds are growing just fine without all the water, but, I guess the flowers could use a drink.  Hopefully, this rain isn't going to hang around all day.

I spent my time on the porch this morning.  There isn't a whole lot going on outside today besides the rain.  I could hear some turkey gobbling on the far side of our property.  If you have ever watched wild turkey - they are so funny.  Especially, when the Tom turkey is strutting his stuff . . . his belly all puffed out, feathers fanned out and his turning and turning to try and catch the ladies eye.  LOL

With the weekend coming up, don't stop . . . spend your 10 minutes outside EVERY day.  Whenever you can fit the 10 minutes in.  Even if it's before you go to bed at night - you can step outside and look up into the heavens and just marvel at this huge universe we all share.

I hope today is a good day for everyone.   ;D

Can I still get in?

I have been enjoying the sunshine every day. Planting flowers and getting the yard ready for the summer. I am usually out about 6 hours a day.

I love the sunshine, it makes my soul alive with everything growing and green. It makes me happy to have all the flowers blooming. I love the birds singing and the butterflys flying so free.

I watch my granddaughters 2 days a week and we spend all day outside having adventures in the yard. We have had backyard bug hunts and walking in the forest. We have even went hunting for dinasaurs. What joy and fun.

Love to all harlin

I spent yesterday outside watching my husband plant in the new planter box. Was too tired from working extra this week to be of any help, but we still enjoyed the time together outside. (I'm sure I enjoyed it more than he did, since he was working.)  ;)

Hi everybody

I'm loving reading all your posts. Wild turkeys, Bucky - they sound interesting.

Managed my 10 minutes today. Used it to walk to the fish and chip shop at lunch time and had some lovely chips. My friend and I decided that. as we ate them as we walked, they were neutral calories. Does that sound fair?

Happy Friday.

Neutral chips!  Liking that idea, Kathy  ;D

I haven't been out today.  I worked so many hours this week  ::)  My company is going through a very busy time - will need to sleep a lot this weekend  :'(
