I phoned my friend today and talked with her about 2 minutes. She is extremely weak and on 02 round the clock. She has a bad cough and is so weak she has trouble talking. She told me that she thinks she is going to die. It is entirely possible as she had that first bout of pneumonia and IV antibiotics but apparently there must have been a few bacteria hiding down in her lungs. This last bout was very bad. It is a very virulent bacteria and may be hard to kill as she has the bad COPD and uses steroid inhaler plus she has the diabetes.

It was hard to hang up and the last thing I told her was "love ya" as fast as I could cause she couldn't talk anymore. I wish I could go see her but with my low t-cells that would be a big no-no. Also, I am going to have my surgery tomorrow to remove my right submandibular gland. Talk with you folks later. IRish Grin

Irish,
So sorry to hear about your friend - lets hope that she comes through this.  Good luck with your surgery - let us know how it went and how you're feeling - - after surgeries, I always allow myself a little fun - I buy the national inquirer and other trash papers just for some light and fun reading!!

Dear Irish,

I had my right Submandibular gland removed almost 3 years ago.  Just wanted to send you my love and support, my dear friend.

Irish,

I'm hoping that your friend pulls through this as quickly as possible and gets some relief from all that she has been through!

Also sending lots of good thoughts and wishes to you to help get through your procedure tomorrow....try to hang in there...there has to be a light for you at the end of the tunnel somewhere...you have had your fill for this year!

Irish,

Sorry to hear that your good friend is having such a hard time right now.  It makes one feel so helpless that they can't do anything to "fix" them.  I'm sure she knows you hold her up in thoughts and prayers.

I hope your procedure you had done today went well and that you will feel better without that gland.

Take care,
Bucky

Well, I am home and recovering from the surgury. They did not give me any muscle paralysing (sp??) medication during the surgury so I had no problems from the other anesthetics following surgury. I was in a private room overnight and on "precautions" gloves, etc., due to my past history of MRSA or staph infections.

It was not a difficult surgury at all and have only taken tylenol and ibuprofen for pain. I have the Jackson-Pratt drain in the incision for drainage and came home with it. My DIL who is a nurse will take it out tonight and she will take out my stitches later on. I haven't slept all that much in the last 2 days but that is pretty much the norm for me.

The only thing I can say is that I can tell that managed care is coming because things are different at the hospital. I go to a very good hospital and it is short of help and the wait time for surgury has gotten worse. My doc told my hubby that it was like an airport now at the hospital. You sit in lines and wait for things. Surgury was much later than scheduled and my doc was down helping push things along to get me to surgury. Then I spent a long time getting back to my room as they had to wait until the patient was discharged and then clean the room before I could come.

There were also other things that only a nurse would notice, but I kept my eyes peeled to make sure things were ok. I am not looking forward to managed care I will have to admit that. Maybe affects Medicare patients earlier but I am finding things are changing and have to ask more questions, etc to make sure things are paid for. Take care all. Irish Grin

Hi Irish

I'm very pleased to hear that your procedure went well, and that the pain is minimal. You must be so relieved to have that over and done with. Tell me what managed care is, please.

All the best.
