I too am a member of this club.  I have always had a very keen sense of smell and in my teens my sensitive nose detected a burning smell in my parents' house (denied by everyone else) which turned out to be the electric meter melting under the stairs. Had we all gone to bed I doubt we would have survived the inevitable fire - and explosion as it was next to the gas meter! It took a gas engineer one hour to find a tiny leak with sensitive equipment in my own house (which I knew was there) and my brother's gas fire was condemned as very dangerous after I visited and immediately smelt the leaking fumes. In my home town in the UK I have knocked on strangers doors and gone onto business premises to report any dangerous smells and reported a problem to the local council - turned out someone was dumping illegal chemicals into the sewerage works.

Although my diagnosis is 'Possible MS' rather than SS, I can relate to so much I read on this forum. It seems like lots of little wierd symptoms of mine fit this disease. Hope you don't mind me joining in this discussion I just couldn't resist making my first post when I read this.

Hi Jee

Welcome from another one from the UK. I'm in west Yorkshire.

It's strange when we develop 'nuisance ailments', such as the very sensitive smell antenna, but how lucky that you were able to save people from serious accidents. Mixed blessings, I suppose.

Some of our other members have had the diagnosis of MS, or possible MS, so I think you have made a good decision to join us.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Kathy

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a northern girl too, from just outside Manchester. I've been reading messages on this board for quite a while as I find it very informative and friendly. In addition to my 'possible MS' I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and other, as yet unidentified problems, causing chronic anaemia, raised ESR and IgM levels. I don't think these are connected to MS but doctors don't seem to know what's causing them - or if they do they're not sharing with me!
I think this is the best forum I've seen for offering support and information and those of you who work hard to keep it going deserve much praise and recognition.

Thanks again
Jee

I'm the same way! I can smell a pooky diaper across a room. Shocked I can smell dampness, mold, mildew, and even our septic lines before they were backing up! My hearing is great, too. Sure wish my vision was! Angry
