Title: Guess what??? A lump under my arm.
Post by: irish on August 06, 2012, 10:07:17 PM
Well, I guess I will just have to deal with this lump. I found it a month or so ago and plum forgot about it cause of all the company we had and the events with hubby and his health. Always something going on that stressful!!

Anyway, I saw my GP for something else and he set up my mammogram for this Wed along with some blood work. Yesterday I had a pain under my arm and went to check it out and darned it it isn't that very hard lump that was there before. I can't tell if it has gotten any bigger. I am thinking that it is a node as it is right above the bra line under my arm.

Anyway, I have done the heat on it but that hasn't really made much difference. I have been on antibiotic again plus I have not felt good lately. Especially this week. Chills, bad headache, sweats, nausea, horrible fatigue and my left sinus has been killing me. I finally gave up and spent much of the day dozing in my recliner--which felt very good.

I am also on Diflucan for yeast right now. I will do one thing at a time. It is possible that I have a virus so will wait and see what the mammogram says--imagine they will add more testing to findout for sure what is going on. Then I may end up seeing a doctor for blood work, etc. There is just no rest for the wicked is there. Just had hubby to ER again yesterday afternoon.

Have to admit that if I didn't see the inside of a hospital for a year it would not break my heart. Soo, the waiting begins. I will think positive cause actually there can only be 2 outcomes. A lump in the breast tissue of women is either cancer or it isn't. Soooo, I will be positive until someone gives me a reason to fret. Irish

Girlfriend, you know the percentage is 80% benign.............so cancel any worrying until a later time, such as when you know differently.  You know the drill.  ((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))  Lucy

Bless your heart. It is always one thing or another, but just do some restful nice things for yourself right now.

I have said prayers for you and hubby. Just enjoy today, and smile over something nice or silly, and try to be as calm as you can, because right now you are loved by family and friends, and God knows your every thought and concern, and he loves you.

Irish,

I'm sorry you've felt so rotten!  Sure hope today and tomorrow is going to be much better.  You and hubby really deserve a break. :)

You know with the lump, as Lucy says, the very best percentage says it's benign, and if it's painful, my docs always tell me that's a good thing, too.  I know it can still be worrisome.

Sending you all the postive vibes I can...and keep us posted, my dear.

I do feel for you.  And I pray for NUTTIN.
It's past time for my annual mammo and I promised my husband I would get to it but I just need time to deal with the sjogrens.  The thoughts of "oh here's something supicious, lumpectomy, oh it's nothing thank God" is just more than I can bite off... And I have been assured I will have more of those episodes in my life.  So yes, I get it BUT please don't ignor a lump very long.. You Are much more valuable to us than you know.

Hi Irish,
Sending good thoughts your way.  I am a cancer survivor and can tell you that cancer usually doesn't hurt....  I had lymph nodes that would swell and would only start hurting because I kept poking at them, but whenever I would see my cancer doctor for a follow up after I went into remission, if I found a strange and mysterious lump, he would be relieved if I said it hurt!  Also, this may sound stupid but can you wiggle it around?  Generally the moveable nodes are usually begnin as well.  I will keep you in my prayers.  Please let us know when you have an update.

I guess it is good you always have so much going on to keep you busy?  :-*

Hi Irish!  You really didn't need this right now, did you?  I have the same thing in my left armpit - hurts for a few days, then I forget about it.  I halfway think it's a lymph node and halfway think it might be my architecturally designed bras for the "girls".  But I am three months overdue on the mammogram so will schedule it.  Let's have a report session soon.  I'm sorry you are having so much to cope with in your life.  You have been a big help to me on this discussion board.  I hope you get some good help back from us.

I can't believe you have something else to cope with. As Lucy said, 80% of breast lumps are not cancer, so you have to concentrate on that. But I will still be sending you positive vibes and prayers for tomorrow.

How's you dh today?

Irish,

Keeping you in my prayers that this is non-cancerous!  You don't need anything else to deal with.  Remember the 80% stat that Lucy mentioned, it is more likely it is benign.  Sending you hugs and positive thought!

You coulden't have any more support for a good outcome on Wednesday.  All of SS world will be rooting for you.
I know what it is like waiting, as I had a breast lump and pain under arm a few year back. It was soo scary,
they did a needle biopsy and I was told straight away it was benign.  The relief was immense, I couldent speak to anyone for the emotion, so I pray it goes the same for you.   Best Wishes, Dolly x

((Our dear Irish)) - never a dull moment in the Irish Family household, eh?

Sorry the lump you've found is hurting . . but, like the others have said, maybe it's a good thing that it hurts.  It's good news that you get in to have your mammogram on Wednesday.

My last mammogram I took in a miniature bottle of maple syrup and told the technician I was all ready for pancakes!!   ;)

In the four years that I've known you, you don't seem to let things phase you . . . you deal with the punches as they come.  I have no doubt, that the same will happen with this lump.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and keeping you in my prayers.  As always, our best wishes to you as you undergo this test.

Hugs,
Bucky

P.S.  Sorry to hear hubby had another visit to the ER yesterday.  I hope he is feeling better today.

My gosh,, You all are just the greatest bunch of people. One thing I have learned from this post is: If you want some sudden attention and prayers just holler "BREAST LUMP".

Seriously, as sjoggies we don't have very active social lives, but we sure make up for it with all our soggies friends on this site. I still have the sore lump and I have continued to sweat like as pig as they say. Just feel really lousy.

Today I called my immunologist and talked to the triage nurse about whether my symptoms could be related to my IVIG. She repeated all the side effects and it may well be that I have a reaction to my IVIG product. This would be the first time in 6 years that I have had this much of a reaction.

I do know that every time we have an infusion the product is a little different because of the many thousands of donors in each bottle. The lump and the sinus issues are hard to discern though. I have bad sinuses off and on so would I know what is what. Don't have a temp, but don't run temps much. I just decided to cancel my lipid panel in the morning cause I am too miserable to go without fluids for 10 hours. When you are a sjoggie and sweating a lot you need fluids.

Thanks again for all your comments and prayers. You guys are just the greatest. By the way, Mr. Irish is alive and kicking. He is on pain meds, prednisone, cipro and all his other meds plus inhalers. Short of breath some---can't believe that he isn't on oxygen, but his o2 sats stay high enough to maintain him. I watch him constantly for confusion, etc.

He was out in the heat today for about 4 hours off and on weeding a big patch of yard that needs to be seeded. Sweating like crazy. I just roll my eyes and try to keep my mouth shut. If he acts like he is getting in trouble then I open my big mouth. Man, he sure hates being married to a nurse.lol Thanks for asking about him. Have a good day tomorrow folks. May rain in some places. irish

Irish, he probably loved working in the soil and "killing" himself.  Partly for him, probably smiling to himself and the "I did it attitude."  Also knew you would love to yell about it.  You know these old guys!

Weather says rain here for Thurs, Fri and the reason is my daughter is having a yard/garage sale at our place.  It hasn't rained here but once or twice in weeks.  She says she is still having it.  Her choice.  We'll see what happens.  She has only a 1 bedroom apt and now all this stuff is our garage, workshop, attic etc...............

Irish,  :D

Yep, now you know how to get attention and prayers.  ;D

I think so many women here know what this is like; it's just darn scary.  I put myself through a "trial" every year with my mammograms.  I have dense tissue, and a horrible family history.  And so the deal starts:

I have the mammo, then a detailed mammo, then an ultrasound, then maybe an MRI or aspiration biopsy and then after a couple of weeks of trying not to worry (but I do) then it comes up fine.  Whew!

I hope you don't need to go through all that, and that the lump is "just a lump."

Glad hubby is being his normal self, working out in the heat.  Hope he's feeling better soon; obviously he keeps on doing what he's going to do!  ;)  Til you have to get after him.

Sending the best vibes I can for a good outcome and prayers for you both.

Well, this was an interesting day. I went for my mammogram but was unable to get it. Well, to be more specific, they would do it, but beause my doc didn't know about the lump I have to see him and I could end up having another mammogram and my insurance wouldn't pay for the seond one.

Sooo, I made an appt to see him on the 17th. I figure that I hopefully will be feeling better by then and things may be more easily sorted out.if I still feeling lousy then so be it and we kick the can down the road and figure out what to do from there.

There is never, ever, ever anything that has a simple way of being done. I feel like I could sleep for 2 days straight and for someone who sleeps around 4-5 hours a night for 13-14 years this is really a strange feeling. Poor hubby is not eating very well lately. He doesn't have the energy to cook like he used to either. Tonight I plan on grilling some steak and will have leftovers for tomorrow.Yeahhhhh! Leftovers.

Thanks again for your support---the sage will continue and I will just continue to think positive cause there is no other choice. As Forest Gump so aptly said: "Life is like a bowl of chocolates. You never know what you will get". Very profound little piece, isn't it?? Hugs to all, Irish

Hi.  Sorry you are feeling so crummy.  And sorry about the mamogram incident, too.  Nothing is easy sometimes.  I've got mine scheduled for next Wednesday - but since you told us about what happened with the "go see your doctor about the lump" bit, I better schedule quick with my doc.  Here's a little quote that comes from a calendar my friend sent me last year - I have kept it because it is an instant perspective-restorer.  You may not need it - you seem to do pretty well on your own - but it helps me a lot:

Well, saw the doc today. The lump is almost gone now---it feels just like a little seed. It was an inflammed lymph node. I was inclined to think that was what it was, but a person can be in denial at a time like this so I just kept that thought in the background.

I still wonder what in the heck I have had with the sweats, chills, headache, etc Had been on antibiotic in June and July. Still have a bad headache off and on in my left sinus by my nose. CAn't get it to drain very well even with the steroid irrigations. Don't seem to have infection in my sinuses. Will just have to make an appt to see ENT again, I suppose.

I have such tender sore breasts even at my almost 70 age. Doc told me that studies have shown that women with sore breasts are less likely to have breast cancer. Somehow that doesn't make me feel any more safe!!! Thanks to all of you. Irish ;D

So glad to hear your news, Irish!  You deserve a positive outcome - a nice break, eh?  I can't imagine what's been going on with you otherwise - the chills, fever, etc.  This is probably off-the-wall, but I live in Ohio and right where I am there has been quite a bit of the mosquito-borne West Nile Virus, and it often manifests in the ways you describe your symptoms.  Also, tick-bite can result in that stuff.  Don't know whether those critters are an issue where you are, but just a thought.

Thanks again for all your well wishes. I want to add that I have stopped having such bad chills and sweats, still have the sinus issues but not as bad. I must have a chronic infection in my left sinus. I think if I spent my life standing on my head the darn thing would drain better and not have such issues.

Also, I doubt I have Nile virus as I have hardly seen a mosquito all summer. It has been so dry up here that even at the lakes the mosquitos are not much of a problem. I think that some areas with the problem must have had some rain at just the right time and/or they have a lot of standing water.

Our lakes are drying up as are the sloughs. The birds are on the grass in the morning trying to get moisture off of the blades of grass. Such a crazy summer--too dry or too wet!! Blessings toyou all. Irish

Bucky, The mosquito is Minnesota's state bird. However, you have to have rain for them to lay their eggs and hatch. We have had some rain earlier this summer, but the time when the would be laying their eggs, etc., is when it was also dry.

I have to tell you that when our kids go to the lake they say there have been very few mosquitos. We don't go out in the evening so we can't judge for ourselves, however, the grandkids haven't been all bit up this summer.

Probably next summer it won't quit raining!! Such a hard year it has been in the world weatherwise this year. Irish

Irish, just saw this post so I got to read page 5 and skip to pg 1 for the outcome.  Thank goodness you are ok.  Hard lymph nodes under your arm send chills up my spine.    I know you said you used heat on it so I assume it hurt.  That gave me promise that it wasn't CA.

Been there, done that.  And here to tell about it as a cancer free gal of 14 yrs.!

Texas has the biggest mosquitoes, hands down.  :)

Hi Irish,

I'm hoping it is just a fatty cyst. I had one of those removed from my shoulder last week. It started out soft and then got hard. Sending prayers that it isn't anything serious.

For those who don't want to read all the posts, I had an inflammed lymph node that was almost back to normal by the time I saw the doc. Sure had a sore arm and boob though before it was over. Darned if I know what is going on. Beginning to think I have a case of yeast again without the "budding" white stuff. Increase in the mucus and some hemmorrhagic inflammation on the roof of my mouth. Almost time for my infusion again. Irish

Irish,

I hope all the inflammation you've had is beginning to decrease, and/or the docs have found a way to rid you of the newer stuff anyway.  I know you always battle with the sinuses and such.

Hope this week is going a bit better for you and your hubby, too.  Keeping you both in my thoughts, my dear.   ;) Were you able to enjoy the Labor Day weekend with some of your family?
