Title: Who still wears makeup?
Post by: Crymeariver on January 16, 2011, 09:05:24 PM
Anyone still wearing makeup?  What do you use?  I had to give up standard cosmetics years ago due to the chemicals irritating my eyes.  Mineral makeup worked for awhile as well as cream eye shadows but now I can't tolerate that either.  I've pretty much given up any sense of vanity but it would be nice to wear some on a special occasion.

I have not worn makeup for decades. I think the last time was in high school. I was in the school play. It felt very strange and I could not wait to get it off.

Crymeariver, I pretty much use Neutrogena everything (except for face soap I use Cetrophil) so I use the Neutrogena day moisturizer with sunscreen and then their liquid makeup over it.  I would use the powder but I get a malar rash and it doesn't cover it too well with just the powder.  I will use a light loose powder mid day though.  Make sure not to use any cream stuff on your eyelids because you will irritate them, that includes makeup and even moisturizers.  If you put any kind of shadow, I suggest a powder type with a soft brush and go with light stokes.

lol Joe :)

I grew up basically poor though we never wanted to anything. Makeup was an extra expense that wasn't needed.

I have a lip color gloss I wear to cover up my poor dry lips when I have any event I go to. And like everyone here, I keep the moisturizing business in the black as I use A LOT of that. I used to wear eye shadow but the durn stuff kept flaking off in my eyes so I gave up on it.

I would like to find a good inexpensive facial moisturizer. So far all I have found it waaay to oily.

I grew up like Pisces, but my parental unit used to refer to it as war paint and I was "forbidden" to ever wear it...yeah, that lasted! :)  Hit school and my friends and I went straight to the bathroom and the makeup "magically" flew on my face, and disappeared just as quickly at the end of the day. ;) ;D

I do use cream/powder combo kind of eyeshadow and minimal mascara, and sometimes use a powder on my face.  The eye shadow only irritates my eyes if I don't wash it completely off of my eyes when I get home.  I go completely au natural when I'm not at work.

Take care -

Patze

I use it daily. I have such a red, splotchy complexion, it's embarrassing. When I don't wear it, or when it wears off near end of the work day, people ALWAYS ask me if I am "hot", "tired", "sick", etc...ridiculous. I use Cover Girl. I am allergic to Mabeline mascara, and most eye shadows (Forget ANYTHING eye-wise in the Mary Kay line..yikes...caustic!), liners, etc. Everything, even regularly tolerated mascara still makes my eyes burn a bit when I get the brush too close.

 ;D Great topic!!
Eye makeup went by the wayside years ago.   Who can wear that and still put drops in every two hrs????LOL

I still put some brow pencil on sometimes, as my brows are thinner and lighter.  I do use a colorlesls roller that reduces swelling above my eyes daily.

That, along with mineral powder, blush and lipstick are my efforts when "dressing up'!!!!

For moisturizer, I use Olay or Cerave (a very thick cream that the dermy recommended.  Cerave is helpful on hands too for age spots.

I didn't wear makeup as a youth.  Did we even need it then with our young and wrinkle-less skin?? Kids, save the money now for when you're going to NEED products in your 30's and 40's!!!  LOL  Mascara and eye liner are long gone so I use false lashes on dates (with hubby) and am just careful with the eye drops.  Just enough to hydrate.  Other than that I use the mineral powder applied with a flat brush to cover red spots and a dusting of same with a powder brush. It is a very rare occasion because no matter how cautious I am it migrates to my eyes through the night.  Then I look a million times worse than I do without makeup - eyes red and puffy and blinking like crazy.

A great face cream is Eucerin Q10 Anti-wrinkle.  It is kinda pricey but you only need a little and it feels like you've just had a facial. Sooo nice!  Not greasy, at least on my super dry skin.

I never thought I would recommend a Gold Bond product (we've all heard their dumb foot powder commercials) but their Ultimate Restoring Body Lotion with CoQ 10 is really good and not greasy.  Good price for the results.

I have the same problem as CAT1962.  My face is always red and my makeup had faded by the end of the day. Tried some of the Clinique makeup for redness.  Kind of expensive, but it helps hide the redness.  I have not been able to wear eye makeup for ages.  I'm glad to hear I am not the only one.

I have very dark circles under my eyes, so I try to put on concealer and powder to hide these circles. Eyeliner and blush, but after salagen, it all goes away. Did not know if anyone noticed until I went to work as Flo for Halloween and people did not recognize me.  They said I looked different with makeup. So they must really think, I NEED MAKEUP..... :o

I would like to find a good inexpensive facial moisturizer. So far all I have found it waaay to oily.
Pisces, In the summer, I use Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer w/SPF by Neutrogena for the day.  It does not have a greasy or oily feeling at all.  I also use this same type (but for the body) for sunscreen for the same reason.  It goes on drier - but is not drying. I also have not problem putting my regular lotion on over it if needed.

I really envy you guys that go without makeup.  Wish my splotchy skin and circles under my eyes wasn't there :(.  But it does make me feel good to look good on the outside even if I feel yuck on the inside.  I even put a little on even if I'm at home just to give myself a little lift in my mood, don't laugh lol.

Only when I have to go some place, not on the farm. I do use moisturizer every day though.  So far the Clinique products seem the least irritating. I have tried Almay, Neutrogena  and L'Oreal just to name a few.  I have fair, sensitive shin.  ( was a natural redhead and have green eyes)
I use Pears soap( have to buy in bulk when I find a place that carries it)  to wash my face and Ponds cold cream to remove the make up.
I don't use mascara. Use too, but now it irritates my eyes. I do use foundation, concealer,  a creamy pencil eyeliner, eyebrow pencil and cream blush (too fair not to use some color) and lip gloss to moisten my lips.

I totally get it dbab.  Besides needing a pick me up from feeling yucky there is the fact my smile is ruined, I can't tan, I'm fat from prednisone, my eyes are crusty, I lost half my hair during a flare up over the summer and it is coming in gray ala Lily from the Munsters... could I at least be allowed to wear a bit of makeup, Fate?  Please?

So what can we do?  Get a great cut, color, highlights?  Hair extensions? Mani/Pedis?

I used to love getting my hair done... (I'm a bit of a girly girl).  Ever since I got sick though, my hair has changed and any harsh chemicals has a negative effect to it so I pretty much wash it with an aloe vera shampoo, use a conditioner with an avocado ingredient in it and use just a bit of a silicone based serum to light tame any frizz I may get in my hair in the summer (I live in the south ugh).  My hair comes down mid back and I do my best to preserve the length because it has thinned out so much, when I flare it just falls out and I shed more than my dog.  :(

Regularly I wear only lipsticks.

Only going out to something very very special then I put on foundation and mascara and some eyeshadow.

it does look amazing to see myself looking 'made up'.

I stopped wearing makeup regularly when I retired, over 10 years ago.

I swim many days a week (well really water aerobics, but 'swim' is the generic term I use) and that doesn't work with make up.

My eyes are so small now, between age, fat, and dry eyes, they seem to be just disappearing.  Sigh.

Well, at least I can see to read all the wonderful posts by my Sjogren's Angels.

Counting my blessings.

Kisses

Elaine

I still wear makeup most days.   Without it my olive skin has no color, and aging hasn't helped, so I wear it for me.  Occasionally some gets into an eye  :( , but usually it doesn't bother me at all.   I use Aveeno moisturizer and Aveeno baby wash to remove my makeup.

I wear makeup daily, I use the Bare Minerals powder.  I didn't wear any the other day and my dad told me I looked ill!

I find my biggest problem lately is the dry skin, it has been so bad that I am scratching my face and neck.  I switched moisturizers to the Cetaphil cream that comes in a 16oz. tub and it feels sooo much better.  You can use it on your whole body, but I haven't needed it anywhere besides my face, neck, and chest.

I am very careful about what I wear around my eyes, I rarely use eyeshadow.  I only use waterproof mascara so I won't smudge it or get it in my eyes when I rub them.  Maybelline works for me.

Thanks for the info the colorless roller that reduces swelling.

I was going to ask but it came up in the thread.

I try to put on makeup if I know I'm going to see people.

Lots of days I skip it  - wear sun glasses and lip stick to pick up the car pool.

You boys cracked me up w/ your replies!  :o

I can't wear mascara much, like someone said -  kind of hard using eye drops all day!

I'm getting used to it.

When I had blepheritus diagnosed earlier this year the Doc said to throw out all my eye makeup and start over w/ hypoallergenic stuff which is not as good as what I used before.

I've had to do that 3 times now!

I also wasn't able to wear any eye makeup for 3 weeks w/ infections.
I hated it!!!  Now that is really the norm for me.
I used to sell makeup back in my college days!

I miss it.   Not selling it but wearing it!

My eyes are so small and I have no eyelashes.

My closest girlfriend who sees me all the time almost fell on the floor the last time I showed up at a party w/ full makeup.

It really annoyed me and made me realize I must look awful  most of the time.

I use Alma eye products and mineral makeup.

The Bella Terra holds up very well w/ the eye drops.

I do still wear make up. My skin has changed so much since all this. I used to use Bare Minerals but it go to drying. I now use a tinted moisturizer, alittle blush, lipstick. my eyes are so irritated that I only use mascara when I go to church or out for the evening with hubby. I had a brown spot taken off last week so the tint helps minimize the scar. All my skin is so dry :'(
My heals are so dry they crack. I work on them every nite but it doesn't help. my fingers are split and so sore.
I cannot get enough liquids in to help.

I wear makeup on a daily basis.  I just look better and have worn it my whole life.  When I first came down with Sjogrens, my eyes were so bad that I could not keep makeup on past 5:00 pm.  Now, with Restasis, plugs, and drops, I can wear it.  I use Lancome Hypnose waterproof mascara.

I've given up on mascara but still try to cover the red eyelids with clinique eyeshadow (sort of beige colour not sure what it's called - used to be buttermilk but they've discontinued that) a good moisturiser is Body Shop's aloe vera day cream - about ?9.00 a pot but very kind on the skin and doesn't sting.

Yup, i use Lancome hypnose mascara too.  And all the rest.

I look like the "Bride of Frankenstein's" ugly step sister without makeup.  I will find a way to make it stick if it comes to that.

Once when my son was a toddler I stayed home sick and my husband dropped my son off at daycare so I could get some rest while he was at work.  Well, I didn't bother to put makeup on when I went to pick him up and while I was waiting for my son to finish cleaning up his little classmate started talking to me.  The next day when I picked my son up after work with my make up on and hair done the little girl asked me who the nice lady was that had picked him up the day before.  Clearly makeup is very important for me!  And I'm the same way - I am very fair and my skin is very blotchy and I have dark circles and when I don't wear makeup people ask me if I'm sick or something.  So I go in full war paint every single day.  But right now I am really struggling with dryness and wrinkles, which ironically the wrinkles don't bother me as much as the dryness.  I was using Olay Regenerist moisturizers and Cover Girl Aquasmooth but recently went and bought some Estee Lauder and though they helped they were really, really expensive.  Sigh.  What's a girl to do?!

I use Bare Minerals for my face to cover the redness a touch, Almay Mascara/eyeliner (just for work) and I too use the CeraVe cream (my daughter's pediatrician recommended it for her 'pre-eczema' skin (whatever that is supposed to mean) and I love it!). Great Topic!!!!

The Bare Minerals "well rested" powder is great for redness on the eyelids and dark circles.  I wear it every day and it makes a world of difference, I look like a zombie without it!

Here's another fair skinned person--light eye lashes--look sick if I don't have mascara or blush or lipstick.  But, I guess i will have to live with that look:   anything with color irritates my skin, lipstick gives me chapped lips in less than an hour, mascara irritates my eyes.  I spent years with oily skin and blemishes and tried various ways to hide the mess- and wishing I could have a clearer complexion and not all the oil--now I'm as dry as can be ---be careful what you wish for!!! ::)  I use oil of olay on my face most days, but on those really dry spots I use aquaphor ( looks a little greasy, but it sure helps).  I guess there is one good point--I'm saving money in not buying makeup.

Hi, I still wear makeup, though my choices are limited, but I just don't want to give it up quite yet. Like you I am sure, ihave already given up so much already with this sjogrens.
So, I use a brand called Gabriel. It is sold in some natural food stores. The face powder is light but covers. The shadows are good also . I am allergic to coconut so I can't use the liners or lipsticks,
but you might be able to. The mascara goes on too wet so don't try it, never dries. There is also a natural brand called Meiessence and Real purity, try googling those websites. Good luck
