~~~~  HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!  ~~~~
As promised . . . TODAY, January 1st, 2011 begins our new 10 minute, one week mini challenge.
A whole new day, a new year . . . . . a clean slate.
This mini challenge is all about "Me-time".  When your day is devoted to taking care of your kids, your spouse, your job and the many other important things on your agenda, it can seem impossible to schedule time for ourselves.  But setting aside "me-time" is to the key to maintaining your physical and mental health.
If you don't take care of yourself - put your self at the top of the list instead of the bottom (if you are even on the list at all) you can't take care of others.  It is NOT selfish to take time for yourself.  It's a must!!
This is a no excuse allowed challenge . . . no saying, "I just don't have an extra 10 minutes for myself".  Find 10 minutes!  Whether you have to get up 10 minutes earlier in the morning or stay up 10 minutes longer in the evening . . . make the time!
What you do with your 10 minutes of me-time is up to you.  If you want to go outside and get some fresh air, read a book, look through a photo album, polish your nails, meditate, exercise or write a quick note to someone - anything you want to do for YOURSELF . . . not what you do for someone else (unless of course, that brings you true joy and makes you feel good).
If you are a person that sits all day - get up, go for a walk.  If you are a person that stands all day - sit down, put your feet up, and do some deep breathing exercises.  If you are tired all the time . . get outside for some fresh air, do some gentle exercises to get the blood flowing - going for a short walk is an excellent way to help get you motivated.
OK - the challenge has been issued . . . it's up to YOU now to either join in this challenge . . . or skip it.  I hope you choose to join in.
Let us know what it is you did for your 10 minutes of ME-time - it will be interesting to hear.
As a side note - since today is the first day of the New Year - today would be an excellent time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.  Also, change the furnace filter too.
Just for fun - look up Toby Keith's song, "I wanna talk about ME" and give it a listen.  (It will probably stay in your head all day . . . hehe  :D)
Hugs,
Bucky
My 'me' time today is going to be spent becoming familiar with the WII fit, checking out my weight, BMI (ugh!) and my fitness age. Don't know if I will dare to let you know any details. Wish me luck!
I am SO in!
Naturally, since there's just hubby and myself here, lots of the day is something I think if as "Me Time" but on further investigation, a lot of it is spent doing something for both of us of for him (perils of being the homemaker LOL).
Today, my "Just for Me time" will be either doing my nails, or scrapbooking, maybe BOTH!
I'm in...my me time is having time for this board with truly honest and caring suport peeps! My hubby and kids are taking down the tree and I'm going to just sit here with some me Time!! :D
I've got about an hour before my house is invaded by a kid that I used to work with before I got my job in the autism room he came from. He is such a success story!
I love that kid!
Confession time:
My WII fit age is 75 (I'm 53!) and I'm obese. Guess my 'me' time definitely needs to be spent increasing my stamina - although the pace will have to be very slow, otherwise, I will ache too much to continue.
Well, here I sit! The PC is my "ME TIME". I did have to call the endodontist's emergency number. My jaw pain for the recommended Root canal is HORRIBLE today. It hurts to cry which is what I really want to be doing right now.  :'( They are calling in an antibiotic and pain med...like I don't have enough pain meds...  :-\ ALSO, now with the pain in jaw, and cheek, ear, I have numbness and tingling in one-third of my lips on that side. Is THAT related to needing  a  root canal? sheesh
I love serendipity......this article came to me today, and it talks of "celebrating ones-self", in other words, "me time"
Just a few ideas of how to really focus on the pillars that make up our lives, and how to use our me time to strengthen them.
Sha..you should be so proud of yourself.  What an accomplishment and what a wonderful story!  It only takes one person to make a huge difference in a child.  Sometimes the ones that give us the most challenges are the ones that develop the most.  Love this!  I hope you had a nice visit.
I am up for the challenge.  My me time this week is going to start again doing yoga or walking (no running...not sure I will ever get back to that).  I had to give up my workout routine this summer and now that my meds seem to be helping, this is my new me time goal.  I miss this.
Day 2 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good morning everyone . . . happy Sunday to you.
Everyone is off to a good start on their "me-time".   :D
Sha - teachers are such a caring group of people.  Good teachers leave a lasting impression on their students.  I'm glad you enjoy teaching  . . . it sounds like your students adore you.
Linda - thanks for the link to that other article.  Did you do your nails?
CAT1962 - I hope you got some relief from your jaw pain.   It's got to be miserable to have that much pain.
Kathyx - how rude of a little electronic box to tell us we need to lose weight!!   ;)  Once you get the hang of doing the different tests it will get easier for you.  I've tried it a couple of times on my nieces Wii - it was fun.
DryEyes - what are you going to knit?
Shani - your butterfly decoration sounds pretty.
Yesterday I spent my 10 minutes (well, actually, longer than that  ;)) looking through some envelopes of pictures.  I love looking through pictures.  Some day I need to put them in an album.
I've got to run - I have to work today, so I better keep moving along.
Hope everyone has a good day . . . make sure and take some time for yourselves . . . we're worth it!!   ;D
Reporting in: I've been very greedy with the 'me' time today. I watched (and sang to) Songs of Praise for around half an hour AND went on the Wii fit for a short time. I've decided to try to sort my balance out, so played the game where you head footballs, and the one where you are a panda trying to catch fish. I'm not very good at either, so my aim for next time is to actually stay on the iceberg, rather than falling into the sea. Catching fish will have to be the next stage for me ;D
Day 3 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good morning everyone . . .Happy Monday to you all!   ;D  (yes, I heard the moans and groans too . . . .  ;))
School starts today again after being off for two weeks for the Christmas holiday.  It seems for me when school is in session my schedule can get crazy.  Go, go, go . . . at times, it is exhausting and I check the calendar for the next time off.   :D  When things are so busy it is hard to find any time for myself . . . but . . . I WILL find some!!  (My son is the one in school, not me, but you know how it is . . . "trying" to get a teenager up and moving in the morning, making sure he has lunch money and everything he needs for school, driving him down our long driveway to catch the bus, after school activities, etc., etc.)
Yesterday, I spent my "me-time" taking a nap!   :D  I worked yesterday and was plumb tuckered out by 8 p.m. and could hardly keep my eyes open.  So, I turned my fan on in the bedroom and laid down.  I think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow!   Ahhh, felt good . . . and I NEEDED it!
The whole purpose behind "me-time" is to take care of US . . . if we don't take care of US, then it can translate into more aches and pains and sickness for ourselves.  Like a battery that is in constant use - it too loses juice and has to be recharged.  For those who might think "me-time" is selfish and serves no purpose, I disagree . . . I think it's essential.  For most people - and usually the women - we give, give, give to everyone else except ourselves.  At some point, we will crash and run out of steam if he never stop to take care of ourselves.
Excuses are, "I just don't have the time for myself" . . . well, I bet you would be forced to have the time when you land in the hospital from exhaustion or some serious illness.  Illness doesn't check your calendar and say, "ah, Susan has a day off - I think I'll slam her with appendicitis".   As you probably know, it comes at the most inopportune time.
For those of you with small children, I KNOW it's difficult to find some alone time - been there, done that.  Usually by the end of the day you are totally exhausted.  If your spouse or a friend could give you a break at some point in the day it would do you a world of good.
In my rush yesterday to finish up and head off to work I forgot to end my post with a quote (which is my "tradition" in challenges) - oops.  Maybe, I'll put two in today.   :D
Enjoy your day . . .
Mrs Bucky
You are a very wise lady. I'm not surprised you spent your time napping yestrday, it seems like you are always on the go, with work and home and looking after us. Thank you.
Today, I spent ten minutes doing the balancing exercises on the Wii fit board - and I only fell off once! I'm not joking, I hadn't realized my balance was so poor. I'm going to try to improve my balance, as well as get a bit of exercise for at least the rest of the month. Oh, and I also spent 30 minutes  watching and listening to Daniel O'Donnell while I did some ironing.  It was a rather old CD, but it was a tour through the beautiful countryside of Ireland. It was so peaceful, and I love his music, even though my family ridicule it.
Back to work tomorrow. I'm going to try to spend 10 minutes outside at lucnhtime, so long as it isn't too cold.
Happy Monday everyone.
Well Bucky
You are keeping us honest here and I love it!  When I get the knitting needles out I am going to make dishcloths.   Everyone I know loves the knit or crochet dishcloth.
Challenges
 January 1st  - was a 20 minute soak in a hot tub full to the brim!  and some bath salts.  OOOOOO   felt so good.
             2nd - was going to be the knitting but instead I spent the afternoon with Thea and Cindy, bit of coffee, bit of shopping then an appy.  More than ten minutes but sure
                      was tired but well worth the investment.
             3rd - starting the dishcloths as soon as I am finished typing.
                btw   why can't I see any pictures that are posted  anyone know?
3rd day check in- I spent my 10 minutes or more on the phone to an old friend, and had such a nice chat I called another old friend, and had another 10 or more minutes!
I also did a bit of design work on a cookbook a friend is putting together.....since I enjoyed it, does it really matter that the result was for someone else? I think the opportunity to be creative is so soul-nourishing it has to be "me time" even if we don't keep the product!
Hi  :)
I'm lucky. All my kids have 'grown and flown' so I can find 'me time' pretty easily, which certainly wasn't always the case. Recently i've been using time to scan all my old photos and rescue some of them so that I can put them all on CDs for the kids so they won't have to fight over photo albums.
Take care - Scottie  :)
I've had 2 weeks off work with lots of ME time. Back to work tomorrow, so ME time will be hard to find.
But 10 minutes, I can & will do that.
Like Scottie, my children are grown, well almost - one still in college.
My problem is making good use of ME time.
Spend way too much time on the couch with the computer, TV, & dog.  :o
I'm going to try 2 things:
     - Getting outside with my dog 10 + min. when I come home in the afternoons.
     - Getting on Wii Fit, especially the Yoga
OK, that makes it official. I'm IN for the challenge.
Hold me to it ok?  ;D
Reporting in to Ms. Bucky
Knitting done!
on a side note -  I entered into the knitting thinking I could whip off and dishcloth in an hour.  Big Surprise there!   took most of the day to get half of it finished.  Oh how my hands have changed in the last few years.  Rather uncomfortable to get the joints to go but once I did  they felt pretty good.  In some odd way I think the movement helps with the arthritis.  This morning however  Yikes!   But I am going to keep at it   Work it through.
going to throw in a walk today. ( on the treadmill )  need to get back to that.
Day 4 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good afternoon everyone.  I'm running behind schedule today . . . pant, pant, pant . . but, I'm here now.   ;D
Good to read what everyone is doing with their "me-time".  Doesn't it feel good?
Yesterday, I spent my "me-time" just wandering around some stores.  During the Christmas holidays I avoid the stores as much as I can.  Now that Christmas is over, I like to browse through the Clearance isles.  I found a comfortable pair of shoes for work that I have been searching for . . . and . . . they were on sale!   :D  Yay!
I prefer to go to the store by myself.  That way, I can go as fast or slow as I want!
I certainly got a lot of walking in!!
I was also fortunate to get in a second "me-time" yesterday. Had a cyberspace chat with some dear friends.   ;)
Joy - yup, once you put it in writing, you're committed!!   ;)
Scottie - have I got a LOT of photos for you to scan for ME.
Linda - it is nice to sit down and talk with friends we don't get to chat with very often.  Nope, it doesn't matter if you worked on something for someone else -  if you enjoyed working on the design work for the cookbook, it counts.
DryEyes - good job on the knitting!
Keep up the good work everyone.
"See" you tomorrow.
Day 5 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good morning . . . Happy Wednesday to everyone!   ;D
Yesterday, I had to run some errands in the morning and get some groceries.  I usually want to hurry up and "get in, and get out".  Well, I decided to take some extra time ("me-time") and stroll through the Christmas clearance isle.  I love looking at Christmas decorations.  This year the stores hardly have any surplus Christmas items.  I'm not sure if they cut back on their inventory to start with, or they had already sold a bunch after the holidays - anyhow, it was slim pickings.  It was still fun to go isle by isle and check out what was on the shelves.  I had my trusty calculator with me so I could figure out if the clearance price was worth it.
I was hoping to find some boxed Christmas cards.  None of the stores that usually carry them had much of a selection at all.  Maybe, five boxes max.   :(
I have to tell you about something that brought a smile to my face yesterday.  I was looking through the Christmas items and found a mug that said, "It's all about ME".   ;D  I didn't buy it.
I hope this special time you have set aside for yourselves is helping to recharge your batteries.  We all need to have some time to ourselves.  When all is said and done, there will have been 168 hours in our week, with us taking only 70 minutes to ourselves.  It is not selfish to focus on ourselves for this short amount of time.
There are only two more days left of this mini-challenge.  This is one challenge I might have to reconsider and extend!!   ;)  ;D
Enjoy your day!
Gosh Mrs BUcky, you're so right, 7- minutes in a week is not too much to ask.
The last couple of days, I've not had any spare time, other than now, catching up with my buddies. My d-i-l has had a migraine from heck and had to be taken to ER by ambulance today. She's back home for now, but we've been on call for the grandies. However, I have taken the opportunity to get some special kisses and cuddles, so I think that counts :)
Happy Wednesday to you too - oh, and well done with the bargain shoes.
Today I walked on my treadmill for 15 minutes and I soaked in my tub for 10 minutes. I love my tub, it is the only way I can get moving in the morning and I do take another one at night. My husband bought me a whirlpool tub and he said our water bill has doubled. I don't care I love my bath.
good luck everyone!
Day 6 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good morning everyone . . . Happy Thursday to you!
Kathyx - I hope your DIL is feeling better.
Harlin - welcome aboard . . you just squeaked in on this challenge.   ;)
Linda -  it sounds like you are really enjoying getting into this "me-time".   :D
Yesterday, I didn't do anything special for my "me-time".  I drove into work earlier and just sat in the car listening to the radio and enjoying the warm air on my feet before heading into work.
Yesterday in the mail, I received this little booklet that comes every now and then from one of the local hospitals.  On the very first page inside the booklet it said, "A wonderful happy new year to you all!  In 2011, please take time for you.  No one is more important.  It's not selfish.  It is self-care.  When you do that, you have enough to care for the rest of your family.  You are not trying to give from a "dry well"."
Also, a little farther down in the column it said:  "Attitude is a key factor in great health, so keep it positive all the way through winter and into spring."
As you can see, even the health professionals are saying we need to take time for ourselves!  It makes sense . . . you just can't keep giving and giving and giving and never replenish your own self.
I hope everyone has a great day . . it's a brand new one, make the most of it.
So, even the medical people are taking noticeof your 'me time' challenge. You are one powerful lady.
My d-i-l is much better, thank you.
Today, I spent my me time on the Wii fit. I'm still doing the balancing exercises and ... wait for it ... drum roll - I managed to do the balancing exercise with the fish and the icebergs without falling off the ice! It was only in the one round, but that's brilliant for me. I'm so clumsy, that this felt like a big acheivement.
Have a great day.
Now time for Me. Big cup of capachino. 15 minutes on the treadmill and 5 minutes on the total gym. Probably some tv and relax this evening. Tomorrow is my 3 year olds Christmas play. Everyday is me time when I get to see my granddaughters!! I love them sooooo much.
Got to get me a WII fit! Sounds like fun.
Day 7 of our Mini-Challenge- "Me-time".
Good morning . . . Happy Friday everyone!!   ;D
Well, today is the last day of our Mini-Challenge, "Me-time".  I for one, have really enjoyed my "me-time" for the past week and will try very hard to incorporate at least 10 minutes for me each day.
Here's the math:  60 minutes = 1 hr.  24 hrs. per day  60 x 24= 1,440 minutes each day
                          1,440 x 365 days = 525,600 minutes a year total
                          10 minutes each day x 365 = 3,650 minutes of "Me-time" per year
                          That leaves us 521,950 minutes to do everything else we have to do.
This is my story, and I'm sticking to it!!   ;D
Kathyx - keep up the good work on the Wii Fit.  Show those fishes that you can balance on the ice burgs without falling off!!  You go girl!!   :D
harlin - Sorry for your son-in-law's loss.  Enjoy your time with your granddaughters!
To all my sjoggie friends . . . May 2011 be a year of better health for all of us.  We need to do all we can to keep the stress levels down, eat nutritional - balanced meals, exercise, and get much needed sleep.  Plus . . . . set aside at least 10 minutes of "ME-TIME" each day.
Thanks for joining me in this Mini-Challenge - it's been fun.  Many blessings to each of you.
Hugs,
Bucky  ;D
Mrs Bucky
Thank you for organising this for us. I've thoroughly enjoyed my Wii(Mii?) time, so I'm going to carry on.
Mom and I are playing this game "Angry Birds" on my iPad.  There was an article about it in the Wall Street Journal.  It is quite the rage, the artiicle said that the prime minister of the UK and Conan O?Brien play it on their iPad.  Mostly though people play it on their iPhone or smartphone.  The birds are angry with the pigs because the pigs swiped the birds? eggs to cook them up.  The pigs emit laughs and grunts when you fail to hit them with the birds.  They mock you.  After a player lays waste to all of the pigs on a level of the game, a raucous wave of cheers goes up!  We spent hours playing yesterday.   This is a tough game!  I downloaded the Scrabble App also.  Haven?t tried that yet.
Up to twenty minutes on the recumbent stationary bike.  Taking it very slow.  Would like to be able to work up to one of the programs.
