Title: Hide and Seek - isn't as fun as I remember it as a kid . . . .
Post by: Bucky on April 19, 2010, 02:31:31 PM
OK - I would really appreciate it if the person who is hiding my artificial fruit would kindly return it so I can quit wasting my precious time looking for it!!    ::)  I have spent the better part of the afternoon searching high and low and can't find it anywhere.  It was last seen back in the fall when I switched it out for the Christmas items.  Today, I switched out the Easter plastic eggs, ceramic bunnies, etc and I'm looking for my spring/summer items to put out.  It is so frustrating when I KNOW I have something and I just can't find it.

One would also think - why don't you use REAL fruit instead of the artificial stuff?  Yeah, right . . you don't know my family.  Heaven forbid a piece of fruit pass over their lips!!   :o  It's not gonna happen!  The gnats would come because I couldn't eat it all fast enough myself.

Does anybody have a system that works for them so they can remember where they put things and can go right to them the next time they need it??  You'll probably tell me - "write it down".  Yeah right, then I wouldn't know where I put the paper!!   ::)  (Been there, done that!)  I need something simple.  This subject also falls under my "getting organized" thread - I'm trying (very s-l-o-w-l-y) to get my act together.  I know, "good luck", huh?  LOL   :D  It's a work in progress.

If you could put the fruit in the glass bowl on the tea cart in the dining room, I would really appreciate it.  No questions asked.   ;D  Thanks!

Bucky

If it will help, I can post you an apple, an orange and a banana.  Just let me have your address.  Sorry, but you will have to supply the fruit bowl  ;D    xx

Gosh, this is a great post! It truly made me smile. I can relate to forgetting where I have put things. I have really 3 locations that I put stuff. One if for any paper items that I will need later. The other 2 places are for everything else, not a great system so I would be interested to hear how others do it as well.

I forget a lot, today I was sitting at the table for lunch with my 2 little ones and I heard a noise on the stove. I thought to myself what the heck is that...I get up and look on the stove, I had started some eggs to boil for a spinach salad for supper but I had completely forgotten about it! Luckily I always set the timer on the stove so that I know it will remind me but it is still scary that you can forget something so quickly.

Writing things down would not help me either as I would forget where I put that. I do sometimes email myself, if I think that I need to remember something. That way I can find it on my computer. Might work in your case if you remember that you have emailed your fruits location. ARGGHH! No easy answer here!

Now close your eyes and I will return your fruit in the bowl for you  :D

Okay, I'll admit it. I borrowed your fruit. But the problem is, I can't remember where I put it either. If I happen to run across it when I'm looking for something else, I'll send it back to you.

Seriously though, my short term memory is non-existent. One suggestion that I haven't found helpful (because I haven't tried it) is to write down where you put things, but post the list on the refrigerator where you'll see it. Or have a notebook in a specific location where all of that info goes, and don't move the notebook. (Yeah, and if I practiced what I was just preaching, maybe I could find half the stuff I've misplaced, including your fruit! LOL!)

My granddaught told me last week "mamaw I think dinner is burning" Oh my goodness she was right. I forgot to ck on dinner and it was burning. Thanks goodness she was here!

My mine is getting like jelly.  I am really struggling and the Rheumy was not concerned. I am why isn't she ???

I try to write some things down but like you I can't find my paper.

I went thru Wendys and forgot to go to the pay window and had to back up. Then when I payed I drove off without my food! My daughter was freeking out. I had to get out of the car to get the food.

See you are not the only one with brain failure. I am right there with you honey.
we will be brain dead together :D harlin

Bucky..I have lots of very very safe hiding places  in my house for my"stuff". They are so safe...I cant even find the things I put in them....so I'm not much help to you there! All I can offer is my understanding!

The other day I went to the bathroom and forgot to button AND zip my pants. They were hanging open for all of God & Country to see.  OIY!  We're a mess.  Thank goodness I had my breast cancer awareness panties on.  hehe.

Okay Bucky, I found your fruit   :-[  in the bottom of my storage closet when I went to get my Spring stems to put in a vase.  I hold them ransome  :P for those missing stems!  Now if the guilty party will return my stems...I'll send you the fruit!   :D  LOL

My husband and I began a list on the refrigerator last Spring of things we cannot find and cross them off when they 'appear'.  Currently his large credit card envelope (from last Spring) and the stems are the only times there.  The rest have magically been put back to where they were left!

The name of this post is a 'hoot!!!" Is there any hope for Bucky? She's one that posted as Queen Bee of going to garage sales! And, even buying items for resale. ::)

Is she not the one that stumbled over suitcase and other items left at the bottom of her bed in the past few days? Bucky, maybe the lost items are in the suitcase...hehe!!! :D

There's a saying if you have not used an item in 6 months, maybe year, it's time to 'throw it out!'

Hey, as one that taught Formula to Success in an Office Environment. I'd suggest you plant an apple tree in the yard and each year you'd know where your fruit is. Now how's that for a solution?  know you just love my suggestion... >:(

Hubby and I took the above 'bold' statement to heart in the past few years and have given kids so many items, even furniture. Have donated truck loads of 'stuff' knowing one lady's trash is another's treasure!

Almost enough said...

Hanging on light fixture outside front and back door of our home is a sign saying,  SIMPLFIED   ;)  , Simple is best when put to the test!

:-*

Bucky, you know, you are sooooooooooooo special...one of life's true treasures!!!!!!!!! :-*      A Sjoggie Buddy

I haven't had any "AHA" moments today - been playing my little "game" again today.  No luck finding those hard pears, apples, bananas and grapes.  So . . . . . instead of wasting more of my time hunting for them, I have decided to put the pretty glass fruit bowl away.  Maybe . . . . if I quit concentrating on trying to find them, I'll find them!!   ;D  I have no idea where they are hiding.   Thanks for the offer Jaygee - they'll show up "some time".

Sorry karleesgranny - didn't come across your pictures anywhere today.  I've spent many hours and days looking for pictures too.

I must say, I have never paid for food through the drive-thru or at the grocery store and drove or walked away without them.   Sounds like harlin, lynnmarie and Patze have there own club going on!!

syng4hym - what a way to advertise!!!   :o

mac -  hey, what's the deal?  Why is my fruit being held for ransom?  I didn't take your stems!!  Joy probably threw them out since they've been sitting around for six months!!  LOL

Quit picking on my suitcase!!  We just got back from Spring break in beautiful Pigeon Forge, TN and I haven't unpacked it yet!!  So, it's been over a week since we've been back.  What's the hurry to unpack??  Who knows, I might get a phone call from someone inviting me somewhere and I'll be ready to walk out the door right then and there!!   :D   And no, my missing fruit is not hiding in the suitcase (I checked just to make sure)!!   ;)

Joy -  some things are "seasonal", you only need them during the "season" and then you store them away until the season rolls around again.  Do you throw away all your Christmas ornaments year after year and buy new ones each year since six months have elapsed since the last time you used them?  The lawn mower, lawn furniture or the picnic table?  I think not!   ;D  Hehe . . . had to rag on you right back!!

I must admit, this will bug me until I find them!!!  I say I'm going to quit looking for now . . . but, in reality, I probably will keep searching high and low.  LOL    ::)

Have a good day!!   ;D

Bucky

Bucky,

You can come visit me!  How lucky your suitcase is already packed!

Seriously though, I had a brain scan recently because I'm extremely worried about my cognitive decline over the past couple years.  I fear I will become disabled.  Recently I arrived home from town and as I came in I heard the answering machine beeping (this indicates I have a message).  For the life of me I could not remember what the beeping meant.  I knew it was something very familiar, that the sound was a signal I hear often, but what?  Also I've noticed when I tried to empty a drawer to reorganize, I felt confused and overwhelmed looking at so many items.  It was difficult to put the like things together and figure out what doesn't belong.

The brain scan came out negative, which I expected.  I see the Rheum. next Monday to find out what's next.

Sending you empathy and keeping my eyes peeled for your fruit!
Janna

Ohiocat - if only I knew where that last place was, I'd look there first!  LOL

JannaLee - that must be very scary for you when things like that happen.  I hope the Rheumy can give you some answers on Monday.  Let us know what you find out, ok?

Lynnmarie - girl, you crack me up!!

Prairie Gal - good luck with your hunt too.  Isn't it frustrating when you just can't find what you're looking for?

Oh . . . by the way, I forgot to mention earlier . . . this fruit that I am looking for . . . .this was one of my garage sale finds from last year.  I got this BIG bag of artificial fruit for $2.  For some reason, it had a bunch of pears in this bag.  I only needed two, so I put the bag of pears in my sale and sold it for $2.  Guess what?  I got my fruit . . . that I can't find at the moment . . . for FREE!!   ;D

Bucky,
Are you suuure you still have this fruit, is it possible you sold all of the fruit?? This is something I would do and swear it never happened, I have to question my EVERY movement, back track to make sure of my eveything I do!! My memory is one that will lead me to think or remember an event in bits and pieces. always leaving out the most important part.

I wouldn't trust myself with your fruit, shoot I wouldn't trust myself with my own fruit, I have to tell someone else that I am putting such and such here or there for them to remember.

Janna,
I just had a brain scan, an MRI & MRA for the same reason and got the same results except it showed my sinuses very congested and cause of headaches according to doctor. I will be making appt. with Rhemy for further testing. Please do let me know of any info. you come across.

Lizzy,
Yes, I have those same events happening to me and having worked with people with Alzheimer's was scared silly and didn't mention to ANYONE that this was happening (except for the times when it was obvious I misplaced something).  I did mention this finally to my GP when I went in about my eyes in Dec as having this 'fog' and it helped her to make the Sjs dx.  I told her it had been occurring for awhile and I was afraid of Alzheimers.  Finally I also told my husband who reminded me I wouldn't be aware of these things being 'wrong' if it was.  But sometimes we AREN'T aware!  That is the scary part.

Bucky, I'll send you my fruit...if I can find it now!  Only can find the Easter eggs...which I did not use this year as we weren't home.  I've been doing the "Joy" thing for a few years now.  Really have lots of stuff I don't need in my life and I sure don't need to keep moving to clean!  Way too much energy consumption.  Rather save it for things I like to do!

Janna, Hang in there.  Getting worried about the not knowing may only exacerbate your symptoms.  You'll have plenty of time to worry about them when you find out what they are (yeah, right!  I feel the unknown is the worst part about dealing with anything!  LOL)  We're here for you.

Y'all have a bright shiny day and may you find everything you're looking for!  :D

I don't know enough to speak for all or most, but my Grandmother did realize "something" was wrong at the early stages of having Alzheimers and as I recall she was doing small strange things like searching for things, even things that did not belong to her. I spent alot of time with her at this point and was the first to notice "something" different about her. It was not so much that she repeated things, but just seemed somewhat confused and slower, but had some really good days inbetween. I often think on this too when I become confused.

They have this new patch out for Alzheimers, supposed to help with memory and stuff, I even thought about asking my doctor about it, only right now I honestly can't recall the name of it.

Think what a lovely surprise youll have when you find it, because by then you'll have forgotten that you own it and it will seem like a little gift. I "found" some Christmas chocolate at Easter, Oh Joy  :P usually chocolate lasts about three minutes in our house.

Harlin - yep, there were some grapes in the bunch of missing fruit.    :D

This week I've been working on doing some cleaning.  There is one shelf in the linen closet that is just "there".  Has stuff on it - but, it's things I don't use often (non linen related).  So, I'm looking through some of the items on this shelf.  Have a paper bag full of old maps and booklets dated 1995 - they're going into recycling.   ;D  Found some new, in the package, word flash cards which I probably bought as a gift for my son at one time.  I walk into his bedroom with these cards behind me and ask he if wants a gift?  He looks at me and hesitantly says, "yes".  I pull out these Elmo word flash cards.   He was not amused!!   ::)  (he's 14)

Anybody interested in buying an older, new - never been used, wooden picnic basket we got as a wedding gift in 1992?  That's on the shelf in the linen closet too.   ::)  Goes in my next garage sale.  (We received two picnic baskets as a wedding gift - we've never used either one of them.)   :(

I was looking through a plastic tote on my bedroom floor (yes, this was one of the ones I tripped over earlier) and found $10 in there I had forgotten I put there.   ;D  Woohoo!!

So . . . it looks like the game of Hide and Seek does have some perks once in a while.   ;D

It seems to me that we are all forgetting a very important part of the hide and seek game.

It is that part at the end, where the seeker calls out "ali, ali, all in free!"   and all the people (objects?) are suppose to come out and arrive back at the home base.

Has anyone tried going around the house - yelling "ali, ali, all in free"? ???

Maybe that would work    :D

This post made me laugh.  For me and mine, I did a PURGE at my house.  I gave away or donated all the things that I no longer use.  It helped to clear my mind and to be a better house keeper.  Biggest thing for me was hubby who kept thinking we might use it later.   I do have fake fruit-- it looks real and is on my table....However, I think it is mine but will check for extra.  This post was so uplifting.  Made me feel feel that I am not alone in this adventure in life.  Hugs.

I'm out of checks in the checkbook!!   :o  I go to get some more.  CAN'T FIND THEM ANYWHERE!!!   :o   I have GOT to find these TODAY . . I have a bunch of bills that HAVE to be written this week.

If anybody is available to join in the hunt, please come ASAP - I will make you a pizza or something if you help out.

I'm on a time crunch as I am co-hosting chat tonight and I have less than four hours to "get 'er done!!".

Gotta go . . . . keep your fingers crossed.

I thought I had hid them in a pillow case . . nope.  Checked under the piles of clothes sitting on the bed . . nope.  Checked where I usually hide them (can't tell ya, then it wouldn't be a secret then!!) . . nope, not there.  Went to another spot I have been known to hide them (can't tell you this spot either . . hehe) . . . nope, not there.  Keep digging.  Take everything out of this spot . . . found one box . . empty.   :(  Checked another box . . . B-I-N-G-O!!!    YAY!!

So . . . one lost item found.   :D  Fruit is still hiding somewhere . . .  ::)

Ohiocat - I'll have to try that.

Shashi11962 - didn't find your missing toilet paper . . sorry.  If you get desperate, I can probably round up some corn cobs out of our field and send to ya!   :D

This one should be titled - Lost and Found . . . .

I was doing some cleaning in the hall closet today and came across a bag full of old Christmas cards that were sent to us.  I looked through each and every one of them - some dating back to 1992!!   :o  I kept a few, but threw out most of them.  In looking through all of them I came across a little red, felt stocking inside a card.  Inside the stocking was a $2 bill.  This was sent to my son for his first Christmas - he was one week old.   ;D  Awwwwww . . . . seems like just yesterday.

Keep hoping I'll find an envelope with some money squirreled away somewhere that I have forgotten about.  Keeping my fingers crossed.

By the way, the fruit is STILL missing!!  I want to know who is hiding it from me??  Fess up!!

GOOD NEWS . . . . LOST FRUIT HAS BEEN FOUND!!    ;D   ;D   ;D

It's only taken me SIX WEEKS, but I have found my hiding artificial fruit . . . and I wasn't even looking for it.   :D  I am in the middle of holding a garage sale this week and last night while I was looking for items to sell in the basement, lo and behold, I find my missing fruit.   I "thought" it was in a clear, see-thru bag, but it was in a white plastic grocery bag - that's why I was having such a hard time finding it.  I was looking for the clear bag!!   ::)

Wouldn't you know it . . . now that summer is almost here and fruits will be "in season", I won't need the artificial fruit, I can use "real".   ;D  However . . . .note to self and all of you . . . . I'm putting the fruit in the tea cart in the dining room so that when fall rolls around and I want to set the artificial fruit out again, remind me where it's at.   ;)

I usually DO find what I'm looking for . . . it can take a while, but it usually DOES show up.   ;D

I would still love to know any working systems for filing papers so I can find them when I need them - I'm drowning in a sea of papers!!   :o

I guess it was about a month ago that I got a new bottle of propane for the grill,, I hooked it up,, and thought,, it might be a good time to burn off the old grease on the burners,, turned on the gas,, lit  it up,, and promply  forgot about it,, a few hours later I was on the porch and just looked at the grill and remembered I had lit it hours ago,,, naturally it was empty now,, and I was out 18 dollars for propane,,, I lose stuff all the time,, checks, tools, just about anything that can be lost will be lost,,
I try to keep my tools organized in the garage,, but since the neuropathy has come on badly,,, I just dont care anymore,, I jsut toss them in the drawers,,

I used to be a fairly organized person. I would make lists of things that needed to be done and accomplishment much of it. We always do plan to do much more than we could ever accomplish so if I didn't get it all done I would do it the next day.

Nooowww!!!!! Life is just a crapshoot. I have all sorts of plans in my head for things I want to do but as we all know the desire, motivation, health issues including fatigue and weakness not to mention endurance all influence what we get done.

Actually, I have come to the conclusion that my best accomplishment around here is making a mess. I am trying to plant a garden(well sort of) and I managed to get 8 tomato plants in and the mess in the yard, garage, little oubuilding and through the porch and into the house is something else. I think I made 4 trips back into the house to get suncream, hat, different shoes and whatever. There are shoes in the garage, rakes, hoes, flower pots, boxes----you get the picture.

I didn't think much of it that day but the next day it hit me that I am making messes like a little kid. You could actually follow my trail through our property. At noon I told my hubby that this was really pathetic. I have a project in every room in the house and have gotten very little done. It just seems to me that I don't have the ability to accomplish a task anymore. Thank goodness I can still cook and wash clothes. Clean house I am not so good at. :o  My hubby is pretty much the same way. He does het some things done, as do I, but we have certainly turned into a sorry lot around here. Irish ;D

Woohoo . . . I've FOUND two things this week . . . . .

1.  I was looking through some older cards I have received and found $9 in one of them!!   ;D

2.  Today while I was out putting away my garage sale items from my sale recently, I hear this rustling of plastic.  There is our cat, Spooky.  Well . . . Spooky snuck in the garage last night without anybody knowing it and she spent the night in the garage.   ::)  Bad kitty!!  (she's an outdoor cat)  I took her outside and fed her.  Thinking hmmmmm . . . she looks thinner today.  Go back to garage -look around where I saw Spooky in the garage - low and behold . . . FIND four kittens she delivered last night while in the garage!!   :o  (we knew she was pregnant - but didn't think she would be having them yet).  Anybody want some free kittens in nine weeks??

I have since moved Spooky and her kittens into a cage in the house.  We're going out of town in a couple of weeks and don't want to lose the kittens because she has moved them around outside and we can't find them.   Poor Spooky, just looks out at me as if to say "hey, what did I do to be put in this cage?"  We'll let her out during the day time in the house, but don't want her moving the kittens right now.

Wow Bucky!  Only 5 months and the pussy willows made an appearance!  Some say they will be in the last place you look but actually they were in the first and last place I looked!   ...and I wasn't even getting out my other decorations for the fall.

Like you Bucky, I was looking for a white bag and they were put into a black bag which was bigger.  Hiding in the darkness of the attic crawl space where the lighting isn't very good and the painful eyes of the Spring just could not focus...

Yep, right on time ... there is a more timely thread running  now on holiday decorations.  As always, I running behind.

Just wanted to thank you for your vote of confidence that they would turn up!

Woohoo Mac/Mary . . . I knew you'd find your stems eventually!!   ;D

I really think for myself, I need to invest in some large sized clear storage bags so I can "see" what I am storing inside them.  Both of us were thrown off by a white and black bag where we couldn't see what was inside.

Any totes I buy I always make sure they are "clear" - makes it so much easier to see at a glace what's inside.

On some of the older "colored" totes, I've taped a piece of paper on the side listing what's inside.  Any professional organizer will tell you . . . label, label, label.

Now, what are you going to do with your found stems since you don't need them right now?  Put them with the Easter eggs.   :D

I totally agree with clear plastic and labels!!!  Every time I buy new plastic containers to 'get organized' I wind up giving them to my daughter who has far more to organize!  I hid the last two for my seldom used Christmas decorations.

Since DH decided to skip winters on the mountain once he retired it is way too much to tote them south so the Holiday has become a very spiritual one as there is seldom family or close friends about.

I do believe we will be back North for Easter this year so will put the eggs with the stems!...all in the dark crawl space.  It's not very big so how can they possibly get lost... again???  LOL

Beautiful day here in central PA so out to play in the yard with laundry and gardening!
Have a great day!

Woohoo . . . another great "find" today.

Today, I've been going through my roll-top desk cleaning papers, etc.  I have several cards in there and I always open them up and look at them.  (I love receiving cards - especially, when they are unexpected.)  Well, I find one envelope - open it up and it's a Christmas photo card to me from my hubby.  Awwww.  It's dated 2006 and also in the envelope is $52!!   :o

Yippee . . . . obviously, I had forgotten about it as it was buried in a stack of other papers, receipts, etc.

I love when I find forgotten money!!   ;D

OK - stopped for lunch break - now, back to the desk and hopefully some more forgotten money!!   ;)

Hi Bucky this made me remember years ago. My Aunty had been sent a beautiful huge bunch of flowers.

When she went to put them in the vase she couldnt find them for love nor money. She turned the entire house upside down to no avail.
The next after noon she opened the freezer to get some meat out for tea and there they were all beautifully frozen  :-\ lol
Your a crack up Bucky. LOVE to read your posts.
Not many people can take the situations you get yourself into and see the humourous side.
Have a great day Bucky, wish I could find some lost money.  :D

Can I tell you my dopey flower tale?

A few years ago, my workmate was going through a rough time. When I went out at lunchtime, I bought her a beautiful bunch of short stemmed fresia. I carried them back to work, holding them facing downwards, as I get terrible hay fever. Anyway, I bounced up to her, handed her the flowers - but there were no flowers in the wrapper - I'd lost them on my way back :'( We still laugh about them - good job it was the thought that counted!

Bopeep - now, I could understand if these were dried flowers in the freezer . . . then, they'd be freeze dried.   ;D  At least she found them!!  LOL

That has got to be one of the most frustrating things . . . when you KNOW you just had something and for the life of you, can't find it.  Been there, done that, lots of times!   ::)

Thanks Bopeep for the nice comments.  I'm glad I can entertain you.   ;)

Kathyx - oh noooooooo!  How funny.  I bet you sure were surprised!   :o  Yes, it was the thought that counted.

By the way, did you retrace your steps and go pick them up?

Well . . . I went back and finished cleaning/sorting in my desk and guess what?  I found another $10!!   ;D

Usually, without fail, my left hand palm itches when I am going to get some money.  Hmmmm, it didn't itch today.  Could be, because I had already received this money (years ago . . .  ::)).

Oh . . . I took the money out of those envelopes so I won't lose it again.  I put it . . . . ha . . . I'm not telling!!!   ;)   I'll get to enjoy the surprise of finding it again later down the road.  LOL

Have a good one . . . .

Hubby has now put the second hammer on my workbench in garage and has BEGGED me to be happy with one of his hammers.   :-\

Yes, Joy is not always a joy!!!      ;D      Hubby says he can hear me 'scolding' myself for doing something with my special hammer in not so nice words...    :-[     my wrist hurts using his ole' big hammer! >:(

I have an 'inkling' that he's afraid I will have 'a hissy fit'   ???   and take one of his BIG hammers and break ever window out of the car... WILD WOMAN ON THE LOOSE!

OK - Thanksgiving Day is over, now it's time to trade out the fall decorations for winter decorations.

Which means . . . time to put the artificial fruit away until spring.  So, I will tell all of you where I am putting it, in hopes that someone in this group will remember when I need to find it again in the spring!!   ::)

Note:  The artificial fruit is being stored in the tea cart in the dining room.

I think this year I'll opt for a clear bag to put them in - that was half my problem looking for it earlier this year - I "thought" it was in a clear bag, when it ended up being in a tan bag from the grocery store.  I had passed by it several times before I decided to look in this bag to see what was in it.

OK - I'm counting on you guys to help me remember where I'm putting my fruit.    ;D  (and no comments from the peanut gallery, "yeah, she's nuttier than a fruitcake!")

With all the replies you have gotten, at least you know that you are not alone.  I have purged my house of all things that are not necessary.  Passed on things that I want to stay in the family, and that has helped me alot.  I don't have so many things to keep up with.  Hang in and know you are not alone.  The brain is a funny animal that plays tricks on us all.

Oh boy . . . . I was re-reading about my find of some money five weeks ago.  How I took it out of those envelopes and put it ? . . . . hmmmm, where did I put it?

Oh geesh, it's only been five weeks and I can't remember where I hid it.   ::)

I come by this honestly - I remember my mother was always hiding things away and finding them long after she needed them (like for birthdays, Christmas, etc.).

Guess I'm going to spend a little time on Saturday looking for my hid money again!

Maybe I need to put everything I want to keep and find later in the tea cart in the dining room?!

I'm tired . . going to bed . . . I'll deal with this tomorrow . . . goodnight . . . .

I tell my family that after my demise, they should tear the clothes closets and go through every pocket of every piece of clothing. They should not stop at that and look under every piece of paper, go through every box etc. looking for $$ I have hidden and forgotten about.  No--is the answer--I do not know for sure if there is any in there now...but years ago I think I hid several hundred dollars in there and never found it.  Fortunately, I don't clean my closets much.

I do have a little gambling $ stash, but I know where that is because there isn't usually anything in it.  Lucy

Note:  The artificial fruit is being stored in the tea cart in the dining room.

Now lets try some association...   Remember that old song  -  Tea for two and two for tea.....
Hum that song but change the words to   Fruit for me and me for tea.   while picturing the bowl of fruit on top of the tea chart.

Now that you have associated fruit with tea, perhaps the memory will stay long.  And when you want your fruit - you will think of tea.

Hi  :)
The snow came this week so I went hat hunting in the house. I couldn't find it and ended up borrowing one of hubbies which is too big for me. Like i turn my head and the hat doesn't move with the head it just stays where it is.

Today I was CD hunting. I found the hat but cannot find two practice CDs I need. Hopefully I'll find them when I'm looking for something else.

The worst thing about the hide and seek is how tiring it is!!

Take care - Scottie  :)

The hunt is on!!!    ::)  Does anybody have a clue where I put the envelope with the price stickers in them that I use for my garage sale?!?  I've looked at several places I "thought" I would have put them - no luck finding them.

I want to have a garage sale of my own June 1st & 2nd and I thought I would get a jump start on my pricing tonight.  Well . . . . doesn't look like that is going to happen.   :(

For all the time and energy I spend looking for them, I could reprint some - it's just the fact that they are ALREADY done - if I can just find them!!  Grrrrrrr . . . it's so frustrating!!

I think from now on, anything I want to "keep" for later use, I will store them in the tea cart (where my artificial fruit is at  :D) - that will be my "go to" spot.

I KNOW I've seen this envelope within the last 30 days . . . but where? ? ?

Bucky:

I can relate!  I was talking about having a garage sale and couldn't find my price stickers either.  Then, I had my grandkids help me and sure enough, they found them.

I put them on the computer desk so I could find them the next morning.  When I got up the stickers were gone!  I crawled upstairs (I always have to crawl) to ask the kids where they were and found my 5-year old grandson had been "stickering" everything in his room.  So...now I hafta go buy some more.  Kids!  Can't live with them, can't kill 'em!

Best of luck with your hunt!

Hugs,

LeoLady  (Melinda)

LeoLady - ugh, I feel your surprise when you track down your price stickers all over your grandson and room!   :o  KIDS!!

I finally bit the bullet and reprinted a bunch of price stickers today so I can quit wasting my valuable time looking for them.   ::)

THEN . . . . I followed a helpful suggestion from Linda, and put the "extra" price stickers back into the label box.  I also affixed a post-a-note on the front of the box, price stickers inside!!  Hopefully, this will help the next time I'm hunting high and low for my stickers!!

I've started pricing items this afternoon - but, now I can't find my clear little box of white labels w/strings attached that I use for jewelry and items I want to hook together without using tape.   ::)  The box isn't in the "normal" place where I keep my garage sale stuff (ya know, like the disappearing price stickers too!!) .  Somebody is messing with me!!   ;)

They'll show up eventually - AFTER my sale is over!!   ::)

Looks like I'm still playing this game of hide and seek.   ;)

Today, I'm looking through some birthday cards I got last month for my birthday - looking for the winning scratch-off lottery ticket I had, so I can cash it in.  Found the ticket . . . AND . . . $25 in the envelope.   ;D  I don't remember getting the $25 - but, obviously it's mine, so WOOHOO!!  What a nice surprise!

If you read through this post from the very beginning, you will see that I often find "forgotten" money in cards.  When I need some money, that's the first place I look.   :D

Oh, and in reference to the previous post from May 22 - guess what?  I found the wayward envelope of price stickers and the white labels w/string as I was setting up my garage sale.  They were sitting in a box on a office chair that was sitting in the garage.  There was a rug laying across the top of it and I never bothered to move the rug until I was setting up my sale.  Da ta . . . there they were!!   :)   I knew they'd show up eventually.

I just loved this one. I read every one in this post. THank you for reassuing me that I am not alone in this hide and seek game. THe other day I was looking for the car titles. I always keep important stuff in one of three places. Well, I guess I didn't put it in either. Cannot find them. BUt found a bill I needed to pay. Once I quit looking for the titles. I wnet fot the bill and it was lost. I tore up this house looking for it. Still havent found it. I had to call the people for the amount I owed. I have lost so many things. I found my one of my sons birthday gifts I forgot to give him. His birthday was this past march. I went ahead and gave it to him cause I was afraid if I saved it for christmas, I would forget it again. LOL..
Items like home decor and jewelry, clothes, and stuff like that is fun to finally find. LIke someone said already, its like a new gift cause you forgot you had it.  :D
I have not forgotten food from the drivethrough or bags in the store yet. BUt I do forget what I leave the house for sometimes. Thanks for the laugh and the feeling of belonging.

Kathyx - I'm not sure what I'm going to spend my money on yet.  I'm a "saver", so I'll just hang on to it for a while until I see something I "want".   ;)  I like to hit the clearance sales at the end of the season or after a holiday - maybe, I'll use it then.

Patze - root beer float . . yum!  Come on over, I'll treat!   ;D

Luna - isn't it so frustrating when you "find" something, and then turn around and lose it again?!   ::)  That happens to me a lot!

I'm still trying to figure out a sure-proof (if there is such a thing) system so I always put things I want to remember in the same place.  So far, I haven't come up with that plan yet.  I can't seem to settle on one place.

I do keep all the bills that need to be paid in one spot and I check it often.  I have to be sure when the mail comes that I sort it and put it in that spot or it can get buried under the pile of papers.  Ugh!

Some of the really important papers - vehicle titles, birth certificates, house papers, etc., are in our safe deposit box at the bank.  I know where I "hide" the safe box key, so I'm pretty safe in that respect to be able to get to the important papers I need, when I need them.

One things for sure . . . I DO remember where I put my artificial fruit - it's still in the tea cart where I put it last November.   ;D

My latest "seeking" adventure is under way. I cannot find where I hid my personal checkbook.  I have a small checking account under just my name that I used when I sold Avon years ago.

I get this bank statement this week and I've been charged $5 for an inactive account.  Grrrrrrrr  (I guess you have to have some activity within a year, or they charge you a service fee.)

Well, this is a monthly service fee, so I better find the checkbook quickly so they don't take another $5 from the account.

I've spent several hours over the last two days hunting for it.  No luck.   :(  I know it didn't just up and walk away . . . . it's here somewhere!   :-\

That's probably why I've been awake since 3 a.m. - trying to figure out where is this checkbook?!?   ???

The hunt is on . . . . .

Good to see this thread up and about again. I have to admit that I have been having the brain fog since in my 20's and it has driven me to distraction. Thankfully, it has been intermittant overy the years though more common now.

One thing I have learned to do when baking a cake is to sit down in the kitchen by the stove and read til it gets done. When it is in your face you don't forget it as easily. If I would go in the other room I could find myself wandering off on another errand and I have burned a few items that way. Need to stay close til it is done.

Setting timers is good!! When I get a bill I write the check and put it in the envelope and place it in my one and only place to pay bills--on the counter next to my purse in stick it just inside the purse so I know to mail it when I go to town. I used to set aside the bills and then they would go into another pile and get lost.

I also have learned that I pile all mail together until I have a chance to go through it when I have time and when my brain is in forward motion. The junk mail is just a terrible distraction to me. I have gotten so I open every junk mail also as some of the "good" mail will look like junk and I have almost thrown it away. There are so many traps to go wrong for people like us.

I have a basket where I put all the envelopes and important stuff that needs to be filed. With all the planning I do to keep things in order my husband will still say "do you remember where you put such and such"???? These are words I hate to hear cause most of the time I can remember seeing "such and such" but have to spent a few days chasing it down.

The important thing to remember during these crises is that in this day and age when we are all on the "information highway" and "enlightened" to the nth degree, there are probably very few normal people that can keep up with the barrage of paper. Sooo, maybe we aren't as bad off as we think we are!!! Irish ;D

I have spent the entire day looking and still have not found my checkbook.   :(

I just can't think of where I put it.  I've looked at all the "usual" places I might have put it and it's not there.

If somebody is hiding it on me . . . I give up, you're gonna have to show me where it is!!    ???

I would say I'm done looking for it today - but, in reality . . . I'll keep on looking.  This is driving me nuts!   ::)

I have spent the entire day looking and still have not found my checkbook.   :(

I just can't think of where I put it.  I've looked at all the "usual" places I might have put it and it's not there.

On a good note . . . today in the mail I get a belated Birthday card and check from my Dad.   ;D  Three months late . . but, hey . . . the note inside the card said, "This is just a little late, but it is the same year!".

It used to be easy for my parents to remember my birthday - I shared the day with them for their anniversary (I was their 7th anniversary present).  Now that Mom has passed and Dad has remarried, it must have slipped his mind.

Maybe, he hid the box of birthday cards and just now found them.   ;)  It could run in the family, ya know!

Love ya Dad!!   ;D

This was my "trick" when I was recovWhen ering from head-injury-induced short-term memory loss. Bucky, I hope it will help; it takes a while to practice, but works really well.

When I have something in my hand that I'm about to put down, I take mental snapshot of the item, and a snapshot of the place where I put it. That works better for someone living alone. Still, it should be an improvement over randomly putting something somewhere.

The other thing the mental snapshot does, is make you aware of what you are doing with things in your hands.

I've enjoyed the whole thread, and thanks for starting it.

Good luck with all the lost things,

This post is suppose to be a tip... :o

I asked my hubby other day when he came home from shopping for us why he had purchased a package of clothespins?

Guess what? He wanted the new clothespins to put on his mail as he opened it at the kitchen table. Teased him about copying my idea to remind me that the piece of paper that had a clothespin on it needed to be looked at before putting through shredder.

He now has nice new looking clothespined letters on the kitchen table while on my side are old looking clothespins on my letters.

Though some good fairy put a W on each of his clothespins. Wonder who would do something like this???? ;)  The lady of the household who sews a pocket on her gowns to help keep up with items... Yes, the older I get, the worse it is getting!!! :-[

As seniors we get a handful of junk mail each day... and, possibly an important one in the mist of all the others.

Do all of you get loads of junk mail each day? If so, any suggestions as how to stop it?

WOOHOO . . . today has been a great "find" day!!

I found my checkbook I was looking for!!   ;D  It was in the safe deposit box at the bank.  (I remember taking some money and that to the bank for safe keeping when we were having all those storms this summer.)

Last night, I had lost my cell phone.  I discovered this at 11:30 p.m. and it was too late to retrace my steps to try and find where I lost it.  I did run back to a parking lot I had been in and checked there - nothing.   :(  I had helped my SIL with some things last night, so this morning, I called and she checked in her truck to see if it was there.  BINGO!!   ;D  Yay!!

Two lost items found!!   ;D   ;D

Guess what? He wanted the new clothespins to put on his mail as he opened it at the kitchen table. Teased him about copying my idea to remind me that the piece of paper that had a clothespin on it needed to be looked at before putting through shredder.

Newjoy - your clothespin story reminds me of my Dad.  Since my Mom passed away, he "clips" bills that need to be paid or important reminders to the chandelier lampshade in the dining room.  So, you walk in and there are all these papers clipped to the lamp.   ::)  At 84 yrs. young - I guess what ever works for him - more power to him!

There is a phone number you can call to have your name taken off the junk mail list - but, I think you have to give them your social security number - and I'm not willing to do that.

An idea one of my Uncles told me was to take the postage paid envelopes that come with the junk mail - fill it with other junk mail you get and mail it off.  Then, the company receiving the "junk" back, will have to pay postage on it!!  Works for me!!   ;)

I'm just a kid at heart and guess I will never really grow up . . . .  ;D  Here it is 2012 and I'm STILL playing Hide and Seek.  Although, my favorite part of this little "game" is when I find things I've hidden.

I had placed some money under the table runner of my computer table last year.  I knew it was there.  So, I go and "check", yep - it's still there.  Decided to pull it out and see how much is there.  I thought it was only $3.  Well, to my surprise it was really $14!!   ;D  Do you suppose leaving it there all this time has allowed it to grow larger?  LOL

Then, I was looking through some cards I keep in this container in my bedroom.  (I love to read and re-read cards and mail.)  There in an envelope, I find $25 - which I had forgotten about.  I  ;D, then closed up the card and left it in there.  Give me some time, and I'll look through those cards again and "find" it once again.   ;)

So, I find $39 in one day . . . obviously, I'm not going to set the world on fire with my find - and my husband can't retire with the loot I've discovered.  But . . . . it was fun finding them and made my day.   ;D

Tomorrow, I get a new mattress set and they haul off the old one.  I wonder if I'll find any forgotten money I might have hid under there?  (Nah, I doubt it . . . I've checked before . . . LOL . . . but, one never knows!!)

I had a neighbor who used to hide cash in her house and them forget where she hid what.  Her grandson ( who was living with her) came into some money that he wouldn't tell anyone where he got it.  I figure that he either found some of her money or was gambling or really even both.  After she passed they found quite a bit of cash in her house.

Instead of Hide and Seek, this should be titled Lost and Found . . . .

Several weeks ago I lost my gloves.   :(  The last place I "remember" having them was in our sons vehicle.

I had gone out there and checked - nothing.

Looked all over the house - nothing.

We had been to too many places to retrace our steps to see if we could find them if they weren't in the car.

Today - hubby goes to take our son out to practice driving in snow  :o.  They had gone out to warm up the vehicle and then hubby comes to the door and hollers for me.  In his hands are my missing gloves!!   ;D  ;D  ;D   He found them in one of the backseat "pockets" (the kind that are on the back of the front seats). I certainly don't remember putting them there.

In fact, I HAD looked there previously when searching for my gloves.  The reason I didn't find them was I looked in the passenger seat pocket (where I normally sit) and they were found in the drivers side pocket !!!   :o

I had resolved myself weeks ago that they were gone.  Had looked for some new gloves at the stores  - good luck finding something decent in January when you NEED them - guess you have to buy them in July!!   ::)

In looking through a closet in the bedroom - I did find another pair of gloves to wear (which I had forgotten I even had).  So . . . now, I have two pairs of gloves!!   ;D  Yay!

So glad my wayward gloves were found.

~~ Ahhhhhh, this little game continues . . . ~~

This afternoon, I'm looking through some papers here at the computer desk and come across some envelopes (cards) with my name on them.  I proceed to look at each one (as I've mentioned in other posts, I love to re-read cards . . . over, and over, and over), I come across a card from my younger brother.  I open it up and it's a birthday card to me.  Inside there is a small envelope and inside that envelope is a gift card.  Hmmmm, I don't remember ever getting this card and I certainly don't remember that it had a gift card in it!!  The little envelope says the gift card is $25.  I scratch off the back of the card, call the toll-free number . . . yup, sure enough, the card is worth $25!!!   ;D  ;D  ;D

Woohoo!!  I have no idea how long this card has been here . . . I would guess "at least" two years, if not more.

Then . . . . I'm re-reading some of the posts in this thread and I read post #79 that I wrote in January of this year.  It's talking about some money under a table runner here at the computer.  I look up, yup . . .I see the green table runner.  Then, I read about the $14 that is under the table runner . . . hmmmm, I stand up, lift up the table runner . . . $14 is still there!!   ;D I remember a long, long time ago (years) putting some money there, but I had forgotten it was still there!  Woohoo!!

So, once again I have "found" forgotten money in the form of a gift card and cash.   ;D

This little "finding" game is quite fun!!   ;)  Unlike the game "hide and seek" where you search and search and CAN'T find where you put it.   ::)  Believe me, I've "been there, done that" more than I care to admit!!

Have any of you put things of value away and "forgotten" about them only to "find" them again weeks, months or YEARS later?

Well done with your finds Mrs Bucky!

I think you should go out and spend that money and card on something extra special for yourself.
