Shame on my hubby, he's been snacking on the chocolate chips and it seems I depleted the flour container over the holidays.

So no cookies until I can get out to the store.  I may have just enough for a batch of Snickerdoodles though.

Daughter and hubby just came in from clearing the drive and porch.  In order to clean the porch off, they had to throw the snow up and over the mounds of snow.  The snow was higher than the floor of the porch.

I have never seen so much snow in one place in all my life.  I don't where it will go on Monday when we are suppose to get more.  I don't even want to think about it.

Stay warm and safe dear friends,

Hugs, Pooh

P.S.  They say we got a total of around 48 inches altogether with this snow and the last one.  Add in the 30 - 45 mph winds and you can imagine what it looks like here.  Thank God for the snow blower.

Pooh I think by April your white sale will be floating on down the river to me.  The water on the Mississippi is high against the levees right now.  I hate to see what it will be when all of ya'll pretty white stuff melts and begins to head south for the spring.

Keep warm.  By the way any penguins in your area.  Sounds like a good playground for them.

Gee, I thought we only had two season in MN. Winter and road construction. Some of your post make me think there may be other seasons.

Let them know up in Vancouver Canada and they will haul it all away for the Olympics. They have been dragging snow from one end of the mountains to the other, in order to have enough in place for the skiing competitions.

What's left over we a little to the south of Vancouver will take - not enough snowpack in the mountains to power us (hydropower) this summer.

Our white sale will be ongoing until probably June. Just in time to open the pool. We have snow everywhere. Please just don't let it melt fast!! We will surely be flooded. We live on a creek. Melt slow dear snow.

Post by: Poochie on February 13, 2010, 10:32:38 AM
Oh my, Harlin I know just what you mean.  Hubby took our snow blower and cut a path all around our house.  If it melts, it will have somewhere to run off besides our window wells.  We have a swale behind our home that channels water into a slope that takes it down and around the house to the road.  Only it can handle so much at a time.

Please everyone, say a prayer or keep good thoughts for those of us on the east coast.  Pray that this storm that's coming in Monday either dies out or by passes us.  I don't know what we will do with another 10-12 inches.  :(

Hugs to all, Pooh

Pooh - have you been able to get out of your driveway yet?  A friend in Indy was out of school for four days this past week and they only had 9 inches of snow - I can't imagine what they would have done if they have all the snow ya'all do!!  The plows hadn't even touched any of the side roads as of Thursday.

Spring is coming!!   ;D

Hi Bucky,
Yes we finally got out yesterday.  Then while I was at the dentist the township plow came down the road to widen it and my hubby had to shovel out what the plow deposited at the end of the drive.  We got back in okay because we have 4 wheel drive, but our daughter doesn't.

Her car never would have made it over the mound of snow that was there.

I must say all this mess has turned perfectly lovely people into rude and obnoxious creatures.  The grocery store was absolute bedlam yesterday.  It must have been the thought of this new storm coming in on Monday.  They were pushing, shoving, and grabbing things right out of your hand.  I couldn't believe it. :o

At first I was just so happy to be out of the house that I tried to ignore them, but when I got to the point that I wanted to pop a couple of them, I picked up what I needed and told hubby "let's get the heck out of here".

We have refilled the gas cans for the snow blower, purchased more flour for baking and extra gas for the generator just in case.  It's amazing but we haven't lost power this time.  I credit our electric company with all the tree trimming they did this past summer.  It really paid off for the customers.  And for the men who would have been out on the lines in this mess.

Our township and state highway department workers have done a fantastic job clearing the highways and main roads.  They deserve a huge THANK YOU from all of us.  Our daughter stopped by the township building on the way home with 6 dozen doughnuts she picked up.  She told them it was just a small thank you to enjoy with their coffee breaks.   ;D  They were surprised and most happy too.

Take care everyone and stay safe, and stay warm,

Hugs, Pooh

Poochie, You are so funny girl!!! I can just imagine the piles you must have. The dnow comes down and then the wind does the dirty work. I remember back in the late 70's we had a snowbank between my MIL house and ours that was about 5-7 feet high and at least 50-60 feet long. The wind just howled through this tunnel and the snow piled up.

One of the kids teachers drove by everyday to town on the way to school. I saw him in town one day and it was mid May. He said to me, "Well, I see your snowbank is just about gone". It took forever to melt.

Sounds like you folks in your area have been dumped on. This is certainly an old fashioned winter. Sure sorta makes one reconsider the global warming stuff.

The best thing about these snowstorms that we are having is that I don't have to get up at 5AM and get dressed, warm the car and drive 15 miles to work!!!!!!! Never thought that day would ever come. But you know what?? I sorta miss the thrill of getting out in a snowstorm. Always carried clothes with me cause I would have to stay overnight. THe place I was working at only had one nurse that lived in town and she got worked to death when it stormed. All the other nurses tried to help out by staying overnight and working 12 hour shifts. It was darn hard work but when you look back you wish you could still work like that. Life does go on. Irish ;D

Irish,
Hubby, daughter and I were remembering tonight about the last huge snow storm we had.  We spent 3 days at our local fire hall with the snowmobile rescue unit of our snowmobile club.  We were the only thing running these back roads then.

Hubby said "Hon, do you remember the red light we drove around over by L's farm during that run we did to that diabetic patient?"  I said "yes, if I remember correctly it was the red light on the roof of the snow plow".  Boy that was the year we had the 12-15 foot snow drifts.  When they opened the roads enough to open the schools, the mirrors on the side of my school bus were scraping the walls of the drifts.  After I got the bus through, the kids were yelling "Do it again, do it again!" :D :D

So all in all this isn't the worse we have been through and probably won't be the last.  The only exception is, we are a lot older now and it isn't that easy to get around, even with 4 wheel drive.  We let the younger kids take over, but the memories are wonderful.

This storm isn't quite as bad as that one, but we got through it and we will get through this one.  ;D

Hugs, Pooh

I guess this white stuff isn't so bad, compared to what they said it could be last night.  There was a possiblity than it could have been sleet and freezing rain.  I think I'll take the white stuff over that.  :)

Wow! You guys are really going through it! We in this area need to stop complaining about the inch of snow that we have collected in the past few days.

I do however remember being in Maryland in a blizzard the year of 84, I believe! I thought the world must have been coming to an end, I had NEVER seen so much snow in my life. We lived in the mountains of Fort Ritchie, it was terrorfiying especially because my husband was away working. I woke to snow that reached the second floor window. I discovered this when I went to open the door and was faced with a wall of snow, I stood there and screamed then ran up stairs and looked out the window to see snow at the second floor across street. They had to dig us out of there, walking through it was like a maze.

What you guys are decribing reminds me of that experience.

My husband took me to watch the gkids yesterday and they have a very steep driveway. Well needless to say we went down it sideways!! I was afraid we would take their light fixtures out at the bottom. Well my husband was an experienced UPS driver for 31 years and yes he got the car straightened out and me missed the lights. He said "remind me why I keep taking you places" Well I said "both times we have gone down to see the kids we have almost had a disaster." We would have had I been driving. :o Safe at home again.
Then my daughter called to see if I was watching the kids today. I said "no thank you" !!

Maybe when it quits snowing if that ever comes!!!

We have had a 3 day melt,, so were down to about 2 feet of snow on the ground, I can now see the damage the storms did to my poor shrubs,, most snapped off from the weight of the snow,, got the salt off the cars,, now were ready for another round of it,, had to get oil today,, only could afford 100 gallon,, 2.55 a gallon,, I recall paying 50 cents a gall on when we first moved here,,

Our area got 6-8 inches of snow last night.  It was bad in that it was the heavy, wet, sloppy stuff. That much snow is nothing for us, but some of the schools closed and even the college where I used to work.  People were having problems moving the stuff it was so heavy.  One good thing, the salt on the road took care of that and the main highways were clear by this evening.  This snow came on the last 12" we had a couple of weeks ago.  NO thawing is our problem.  The wet stuff will be just slop all over.  Ugh.

The sale is still on, but I'm afraid everyone has so much of this blankity, blank stuff there won't be any takers.

It finally quit snowing this afternoon, and thank God the winds gave up too.  I can't believe all the snow we have received so far and now they are talking about another big one coming in next week.

When will it end?  The white out conditions yesterday due to the 40-50 mph winds (sometimes up to 70) kept most of us in our nests. :)  The county sent out warnings about the white out conditions and advised all people to stay put unless they were emergency personnel.

Didn't take much to convince me.  Just looking out the kitchen and seeing nothing but white was all I needed. :o

If anyone needs me, I'll be in by the fireplace knitting.  Until Spring really pops up I will be content to stay put.  FedX just delivered another supply of knitting yarn so I'm all set. ;D

Take care everyone, PLEASE, let's all be careful and try to laugh about this,

Hugs, Pooh

It is official now.  For Columbus, Ohio, this was the snowest february on record.   The last record was in 1910 and with our latest few inches of snow, we have broken that all time record.

Happy february every one -   I can barely wait for March (and for spring).

hate to mention this, but ... I am seeing some very small strips of green in my yard. Most of my yard has 15 inches of snow and the banks are still over 3 feet of hard pack.
Title: Re: FEBRUARY WHITE SALE -
Post by: Poochie on February 28, 2010, 09:01:35 AM
Joe, the only places we can see green grass is around the pine trees in the back yard.  From the grassy parts it swells into 3-4 foot drifts all across the yard.

The squirrels are now walking up to the bird feeders and jumping up about 10 inches to get to them.  Even the birds don't have to fly in, they just hop from the drifts to the feeders.

It's been snowing off and on for the past 3 days.  It doesn't seem to accumulate much, it's just enough to make you wonder if it's going to flurry or really lay it down.

COME ON SPRING!!!! PLEASE!!!!

Hi Friends . . . .

Remember back to February when we had all that snow?  Lots and lots of snow!!  :o  Snow, snow and more snow!!!

Bet you wouldn't mind a little bit of the white fluff about now as our temperature here today in Central Illinois is 92 degrees - with a heat index of 107!!   :o   :o  Ugh!

In another thread a while back they talked about which season us Sjoggies handled better. Well, I don't like all the heat and I don't like all the cold.   ::)

I've mentioned this before in different threads, I don't remember all the year-round extreme weather like we've had the last few years.  It seems any more, it is just one continuous weather making extreme month after month . . . . snow, rain, floods, wind, earthquakes, heat, etc.

I'm hibernating inside today.

Here in WV we have had many days in the 90's this year. Today is expected to reach 94. Last week we had 97. I personally like the summer heat the best. when cold comes I ache all over. Summer is the best for this Sjoggy. White stuff can stay away forever as far as I am concerned!!
