Title: Mother Nature at it again . . .
Post by: Bucky on December 23, 2009, 12:53:20 PM
Looks like Mother Nature is at it again . . . blanketing the Midwest with snow, ice and rain.   >:(

Here in Central IL, it's just rain - although, the temperature is hovering just at 32 degrees which isn't a very good thing.  Just praying that this liquid precipitation doesn't turn into an ice rink!!   :o  We're expecting rain today, tomorrow and a little bit on Friday when it then turns over to snow (so they say).

If any of you are doing holiday traveling - please allow extra time, s-l-o-w down your speed, have your up-to-date winter survival kit along with you (including meds), keep a full tank of gas.  If you are flying . . . good luck . . .I mean, be prepared for delays.  ::) You know how it goes with the ripple effect - one airport gets delayed - so do all the others.  Make sure you have snacks with you - they might come in very handy.

Enjoy your holiday weekend - however it is you celebrate.  Be careful and be safe.

Hugs,
Bucky  (who is thankful I'm staying put and not going anywhere!!)

Hi Bucky

West Yorkshire is covered in snow and ice. It's really difficult to get to the main roads which are, thankfully, relatively clear. However, there have been some nasty accidents in the south of the country, with a coach overturning, killing two and injuring many in Cornwall. There's also been an aircraft accident, due to the ice. My thoughts are with all the injured and bereaved people.

Like you, I'm staying at home, for which I'm truly thankful.

Hugs
Kathyx

Thanks for this Bucky.  The UK has had heavy snowfalls since last Thursday night and the whole country has ground to a halt.  You'd think we were under 5 feet of snow, rather than 5 inches!  Airports are closed, the Channel Tunnel trains got stuck, people are slipping on icy pavements and everyone's in a panic.

Like you, I'm staying put and enjoying the holiday season right here!

Love to all - Chickpea

Yikes Chickpea!  Like the scene around here, had a good 18 inches hit in a day, and it pretty much shut down the area.  Let's not even mention the refreezing every night, ugh!

I'm in Eastern Iowa.  Hwy 20 North = snow , south = freezing rain.  Right now the rain is all starting to freeze.
News said lotsa cars in ditches along Hwy 151. We are supposed to get 1 inch of rain tomorrow here. Lots of air flights are cancelled here and there are power outages all around. So far I have power thankfully but have cranked up the furnace so if I do lose power it will take longer for it to cool down in the house. We even had lights flicker a few times at my work - we do have a backup generator there.

Yes everyone be very careful. It may not look slick but it is - especially at sto signs and overpasses.
Be careful walking -people are a lot harder to "fix" than cars!

Hi  :)

I'm in a panic too. Two daughters + partners meant to be coming home for Christmas tomorrow and I don't know if the weather will let them. It's a case of "wait and see".

Take care - Scottie  :)

Everyone stay safe!  If you need to run an errand that isn't crucial, just do without whatever it is until the traffic and weather improve.   If you must get out, be careful!  Enjoy your family time and time off from work.   Don't overdo!  Have a merry, loving, relaxed Christmas Day!  Be sure to tell your family members that you love them.

Be safe rather than sorry!

And enjoy youselves and you love ones.

For those of you spending the holidays alone I will stop in to visit with you at different points just to let you know you are not entirely alone. Rest up, find some good movies and maybe go out to eat, there will be many out looking for a meal and good company. And just think that some only wish they had other company, some hate to see some of their company coming!

Merry Christmas!

Hi Bucky,
Merry Christmas!  Yep, here I sit with my computer and cell phone, car loaded with packages, cakes, cookies, assorted items needed for dinner at my daughter's .............................and it's sleeting and freezing rain out.

So with my son and his family suppose to travel from the Eastern Shore of MD to our daughter's place in PA, we have postponed our get together until same time tomorrow with the hopes Old Mother Nature will co-operate.  PLEASE!!!

I hope you are spending a wonderful day with family and friends and Mother Nature didn't spoil your plans.

Hugs, Pooh

Hello, and Merry Christmas to all I hope everyone is enjoying their day  even inspite of weather. For us most spent the day shopping only needing a tee shirton, I however had on a light jacket. TODAY!? It's a whole different thang, it's colder out, somewhere in the 40s. I did witnessed a few flurries that happened to fall directly in front of for about a second then poof, gone.

Well, just wanted to let all know that Mother Nature co-operated in a way.  The foot and a half snow we had along with the freezing rain and sleet, gave way to all rain and warmer temps.

We managed to all get together and had a great time.  I had all 9 great grands running around and climbing up in my lap or hugging me all day.  It was wonderful.

However.................................it was also wonderful to get home to the peace and quiet.  I made myself a cup of tea, curled up in my recliner and promptly dropped off into blessed sleep.  Tea got cold, I got warm and slept for about 3 hours. :D  It was a wonderful day. ;)

My prayers for the New Year will be for all of us to have much better days and a easier time of it with this Sjs.  Take care all and to each of you a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hugs and God Bless All,
Pooh

So glad to see that the weather cooperated, and that you've been able to get a bit of a nap once back home.

Take care my friend -

Hey I live in Texas since 1976. I am originally from Michigan. It gets close to that at night here sometimes. It has actually snowed here in Houston two years in a row and let me tell you, These people do not know how to drive in it or on ice or in the rain for that matter. I stay off the roads then. It is much safer. One boy was excited from Texas and said he hoped for three feet of snow. ;D I said you aren't from the north are you. He was confused and said three feer is only up to his knees. Thankfully it didn't snow. I showed him what three feet of snow looked like he wa  :o

Pooh - I'm sorry the freezing rain put a damper on your holiday get-together - but glad that you were finally able to get together with family.  Have you recovered yet from all the great grandchildren's attention with grandma?  Even though it was a flurry of activity - I'm sure you enjoyed every minute of it.  Glad you enjoyed your quiet time in your recliner with your blankie.  Everyone needs quiet time.   ;D

When we awoke on Christmas morning it was a green Christmas.  By 11 a.m. it started to snow and by the time the day was over, we had a little over an inch.  The next day we added another 4-5" of snow.  Church was cancelled on Sunday due to the weather.   We're suppose to get another 1-3" today.  I'm home, inside - so let it snow!!   ;D

We're only a full week and two days into winter 2009/2010 . . wonder what the rest of the season will hold for us??

Take care everybody . . . watch your footing in the snow and ice this winter - we don't need any broken bones to add to the mix!!!   :o

Hi Bucky,
Whoa~~ sure glad we didn't get anymore snow.  The sleet and freezing rain turned to just rain and washed away just about all of our 18" of snow.

Yes, I did have a great time with the little ones.  My grandson's wife just called me and told me the sweater (Aran Isle) that I made my oldest gr. grand was a huge hit with him.  She had to wash and dry it on Sunday so he could wear again Monday.   :D  She said he hasn't taken it off since he put it on Friday.  lol  She had to bribe him to let her wash/dry it.  And here I didn't think he would like it.

The goofy helmet hats I made the others were just as a big a hit as the sweaters.  Three of them put them on when they opened them and were still running around with them on when they got ready to leave.  Bells were ringing all the time.  ;D

I'm really glad to hear you are inside and warm.  This is the first full winter I've had to deal with this Raynaud's and I didn't realize how bad it was.  Now I send my daughter or my hubby to do the shopping.  Our temps are below freezing and not expected to get much higher for a while, so I'll be knitting and staying warm until Spring.   :D :D :D :D

I hope you and all my friends have a wonderful, healthier, HAPPY NEW YEAR!  May all of us with this insidious disease find comfort and pain free living in the new year.

Hugs and God Bless,
Pooh

It's times like this that I don't regret leaving NJ. I loved the fact that I did not need a coat to burden me down when I went to church tonight, it was damp out because it has showed earlier today, I prefer the winters that we don't need coats all the time.

Happy New Year All!!!! And stay safe!!!!1

We have now returned back to my home state in Tn, my husband is from Philly Pa.

I am from TN. but while my husband was in military we lived in Mommoth County NJ for almost 10 years (longest stay anywhere). We lived in many places, but Nj and Maryland were the coldest by far! Never saw so much snow in my life! Oh the cold was too much for me. Summertime weather does not last long enough there for me, only a few months per year, if that! I found that to be depressing.

Don't get me wrong I like the East Coast and North everything but the weather. My husband is from Philly Pa. and used to always complain that in Tn. we don't have enough cold days to seperate the seasons, he wanted to move back to East Coast, I told him you don't wait until you get old to go back to that, if anything it's the other way around. If it was not so very cold there I would love to go back, but my mind and body can not take the abuse, plus I find it too restricting having to wear so much clothing, clearing all that snow and ice in the freezing mornings and not being able to just grab a jacket on your way out the door and jump in the car and go wherever because the weather may be too bad. My body shakes like a toy rattler in that cold, I can't put enough on, I'm shaking on your mildest days while my husband and others used to it are looking at me as if something is wrong with me!
Survivial is too hard there for me!

Well, I am thankful for having a warm house (didn't lose elec.), a stocked refridgerator/medicine cabinet, kitty companionship and fairly good health. It is -12 right now in Eastern Iowa with chill factor around -20 to -25. The high if we are lucky will be 1 to 10 all this week but at least above zero.

A Happy Healthy 2010 to Everyone!

West Virginia was a cold 12 degrees this morning and it is still only about 17. Husband walked son's dogs at 8 and wind chill was probably zero. I'd like some sun please. We had about an inch of snow over nite and a winter storm warning is in effect until Sunday. Burr better turn on the fireplace and snuggle in. :D

Patze: Sorry the dr is messing around with your thyroid med.  Gosh your hormones get out of wack and you end up feeling more miserable.  We Soggies are dry enough but when TSH gets low we get drier (if that is possible) hair, skin, more fatigue and paleness and of course - feel the cold more. Hope he gets it regulated quick!

It is Zero for a high here today but I do feel sorry for the folks down South as they are just not used to it being as cold as it has been lately. Snow in TX and 35 degrees in AZ - to me should be unheard of. I don't think TX even has equipment to handle snow!

My elec along with the heat (elec start) was out for 2 days a couple years ago. Thankfully it was not durn freezing cold just very very icy out.  And thankfully the temp in the house only dipped to 48 so no frozen pipes. Ice is the worse when it gets on those power lines.

What a Mama bear won't do for her cub . . . . . we have a looonnnggg driveway with an open field next to it.  We've got 8-10" of snow.  I walked down to the mailbox to get the mail and tried to make a "path" so our son could get back to the house after school without me getting the car out (didn't want to get stuck in the driveway).  He didn't wear boots to school today - seems there is just not enough room in their school lockers to accommodate books, bookbag, coat AND boots.  I tried shuffling sideways to make a path - that wasn't working and it would be dark by the time I finally made it back to the house.   ::)  LOL  So, I walk back to the house and get the shovel.  Hmmm, new shovel - never seen this one before (when the boys go shopping alone, you never know what they will buy!!   ::)).  Walk back down to the road and shovel a path back to the house for our son.  Ugh . . . got my workout today (it's 18 degrees out, with windchill it feels like 5)!!!  (Hey, nice shovel . . LOL)  So, now son has a pathway back to the house and he won't get snow up to his calves and in his shoes.  That is . . . if it doesn't drift in again with the wind blowing and it's another two hours before he gets home!!   :o  Oh well . . . I tried.   ;D

My Dad plows snow in the winter . . . do you think he would come and plow his daughter's driveway??   NOOOOOOOOOOOO . . . okay, so he lives 500 miles away - that could be the reason!!  LOL   ;D

Update:  -15  Yes minus 15 this morning in Eastern Iowa.
I was working overtime this week so Have to go to grocery store but at -15, will wait until tomorrow when it will get at least a Plus 15 by noon.
We got a saying in Iowa "if you don't like the weather, wait awhile and it will change".

Hmmm  we have the same saying in Ohio about the weather.

But all i know, is that I am tired of winter all ready.   I have had to shovel snow every day this week and on the last two days, twice a day.   (Not all the days was a lot of snow, but it needed shovel any ways)   Does not help with me feeling a bit under the weather.

The extra work has made me more short of breath.  And since I am also fighting a cold; it does not help that either!

Only 3 more months before spring,   sigh.

RobinBat - our bear cub is 14, and yes, he did appreciate having a clear path from the road to the house.   :D

Pisces24 - we have that same saying here in IL too.

Ohiocat -  shoveling snow can be a strenuous job, especially if it's the wet, heavy snow.   Can you draft another family member to do the shoveling??  Hope you feel better from your cold.

Hey Bucky and Other Interested Persons,   How many steps from your door to the mailbox? Counted as I went today in +15 degree temp... 75 steps. Wonder how many have it delivered to your door????

 8) Boy, did I need sunglasses for my trip! Funny, but felt our home was much warmer when I came back in.

Are we allowed to say we are BORED on Sjoggie site????????? Am writing this sitting on my exercise ball.  Second week that not able to make it to Wellness Ctr. I am getting stiffer by the day...

Joy - awwww,  cabin fever already???  I guess I  love hibernating in my cabin - I'm a home body.

I have never owned an exercise ball, but I don't think you are just suppose to sit on it!!  LOL  Too bad we don't have a live webcam type site and we could have a group exercise . . . well, maybe not.  LOL

As I sit here at the computer I am doing some arm extensions up, back to shoulders, out to side exercises . . . while listening to all my bones as they snap, crackle and pop!!   :o  They seem to be more noisy this winter than I remember in the past.

I just asked hubby how far it is from the house to the mailbox and he said 400 ft. - a nice little stroll.   :D

Hang in there Joy . . . you'll get to travel out soon.

Ok, sort of feel bad complaining about our weather reading your posts...our high today was 38 degrees... most of day low 30's and drizzling...wouldnt be bad if I was indoors and warm...but no I had to be outside doing good...I belong to a Breast Cancer Awareness group and we were in a chili cookoff today. So at 7:15 am I was out setting up the booth and helping cook chili! I had stockings, heavy socks, long johns, jeans, turtleneck, pullover, sweader, winter coat and scarf and gloves on and still my toes, and fingers were frozen and numb! Had to keep going over to the fire and warming up. We did win the best decorated booth and had great fun, but it would have been so much more fun at 60 degrees or warmer! If you want to see pictures check out our website I am sure they will be posted soon. www.bikersraisingawareness.org
So was feeling cold and then read your posts....still was cold...doesent matter if not as cold as you, I was cold... :(
Hope all are home and feeling warmer now :)
Tomorrow have to pack up holiday decorations, put off long enough...

To Bucky who wrote    "Ohiocat -  shoveling snow can be a strenuous job, especially if it's the wet, heavy snow.   Can you draft another family member to do the shoveling??  Hope you feel better from your cold."

Ahh, the idea of getting someone else to do the shoveling.    However, last time i checked at the store, they don't make cat size shovels.  HMMM, I wonder if that could be the next big invention,  shovels for cats and dogs to use.  I can see people training dogs perhaps to shovel,    but cats...hmmmm.

Besides my cats are only indoor cats and they don't understand about the outside.   They think my house has a magic pantry which always has a never ending supply of cat food. :D

Side question,  how do other folks get a quote from someone elses post to be placed in a box?

Ahhhh, good ole Mother Nature . . . still creating havoc around the world.

Towards the tail end of last week and all this week we've been having a lot of fog here in IL. Thick fog.  Freezing fog even!!  Yippee!!   :o

Tuesday night and Wednesday we had the freezing rain.  UGH!  I would much rather have the snow over the freezing rain and ice.  We lost power for about six hours last night.  Some areas are still without power.  Our driveway is a sheet of ice!!

We're suppose to have rain all this weekend.  Yippee Zippy DoDa!!   ::)

Let's see . . . according to the calendar there are 57 more days till Spring!!  Yay!!   ;D   ;D

57 days - gosh that's a long time yet. I'm sorry you are having such rubbish weather. We have had some fog over the last few days, but at lunchtime today, it was almost like spring. As the day went on it got colder and a big foggy again, but we have no ice here just now.

Keep warm.

I win Bucky!! We had no power today for 11 and half hours.........grrrrrrrrrrrr...it was crazy!

And yes...the freezing fog and wet ice is terrible. What is the worst are the parking lots and sidewalks.....when cars are sliding out of their parking spaces at work....while people are inside the building working...that's bad...a lot people falling on the ice too....Be careful out there!

Well we have finally gotten back to normal, Thank God! For the last week or so it has been in the 50's and early 60's!. Off and on it has been raining, this time of the year we have to keep watch for tornnados.

Joy, how is it on your side of TN.??

Hi Bernice, Checked the radar and it shows yellow box over your area. It's 10 p.m here. Are you getting stormy weather or just heavy rain?  Looks like we will get rain later in the night. Low 37 tonight.  It seems to  lately roar through your area with tornadic action and skips over our hills and valleys and hits the Appalachian Mts. Range head on (NC & VA).

Looks from the map it also wrapped around and came down far side of App. Mts. and hit east coast line (over near Raleigh/Durham area at DUke Med Ctr) where I go. Bet they got the ice part as did high NC mts. and VA. mts.

Hope you are safe tonight... and your power stays on.

Morning . . . .

Just got back from literally stomping my way to the road to meet the school bus with our son.   ::)  I didn't want to get the car out to drive to the end of the driveway as I'm afraid I will get stuck on the ice covered driveway - so we walked.  There is a glaze of ice e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e, that's why we had to "stomp" our way to the road.  When we would get to some really icy spots we would do the balancing act to cross it.  I fell once.  At least it was a softer landing in the spot where I fell versus on the ice covered driveway.  I put my cell phone in my coat pocket on the trip to the road in case I fell on the way back to the house and needed assistance. Thankfully, I didn't need to use it.   ;D

We lost power again last night for four hours.  I had just started to get our dinner out to put in the oven when the lights went out.  So, another evening of a lantern and candles.  We did turn the generator on a little bit to catch the evening news - then turned it off to conserve our gasoline since one never knows how long you will be without power when it goes out.

A rainy forcast for this weekend.  We're suppose to warm up into the 40's - which is good.  Just as long as we don't get tons of rain like they are getting in CA.    It seems like no one is exempt from Mother Natures fury.  It doesn't matter what mankind does - Mother Nature is in control!!   :o

Have a good day and weekend.   :D

Lynnmarie - unmanned cars sliding in a parking lot  :o . . whoa, that's not good!!!  Hopefully, this ice will melt soon.  It is NOT fun!!

All is well, nothing more than off and on drizzles. No we did not have any power outages, very seldom do unless a major storm comes through. This time of the year tornadoes watches are the norm, they may or may not show up, we don't give it much thought unless one is spotted right in our back yard! We very seldom get snow or ice, but lots of rain and a storms every now and then!

Today is probably in the 50's, so it's kind of cool and damp, we need jackets today!!!! Other than storms the worst of our bad weather is more than likely over for this year, it may or may not get cold again, chances are NOT, but who knows!

Joy, you take care to stay warm! It's so strange how different our weather is from one side of the same state, but TN. is a very long state! You are closer to colder states only, I am in the middle upper part of the state, I guess because I am surrounded by both warm and cooler states we here get a mixture of both, in fact that is what causes tornadoes, a mixture of cool and warm weather! Which may explain why we are warmer than you guys on that side, but cooler than Fla. and other southern states.

Another foggy day here in Central IL.  I don't ever remember us being foggy for a whole week before.  One would think we live near the ocean or something and we don't.  (closest body of water is the Illinois River)

It always amazes me the idiots who are out driving around with no headlights on in the fog!!  I flashed my headlights at a few drivers.  Hello - it's foggy, turn your lights on!!!   ::)

Last night on the way home from work my husband almost hit a lady walking on our road with her dog.  Of all things, she was wearing a black coat and it was dark out.  No flashlight, no reflecting lights, nothing!  He told me, "I bet she felt the wind of my truck go past her, I didn't see her until the last second!".  People, people, people . . . use common sense . . . if it's dark out, and foggy to boot, don't wear black without some sort of flashlight, reflector or something!!   :o  We're thankful . . this could have had a very bad outcome!

Be careful . . . .

Hmmmm, looks like you TN gals are in for a white January evening!!  Here in Central IL, all is calm . . no snow.   ;D  You know ya'all have read thru the months about all our rain, ice and snow here in the Midwest and parts North.  Well, just so ya'all don't feel left out, you get to "share the wealth" and get the treat of snow.  Enjoy!!  Now, we certainly don't want any of you to lose power - been there, done that - not fun.  Do be careful if it starts to ice up - we don't want to read any posts about broken bones!!  Stay home, make a cup of hot chocolate, get the camera out and enjoy your winter wonderland.

Be safe.

It's been so long since I've seen snow that when I looked outside and was able to see clearly across the street at 10:50 p.m. I was amazed wondering "my it sure is bright outside, even in the sky, is this how it always is with snow", BUT, then I go online and see an article about the unusual full moon tonight being closer and brighter than normal so I guess more than snow for this area is unusually happening around here tonight! ::)

There does not seem to be not one car or person moving on the outside!

I'm anxious to hear about the snow our southern states members received.  How's it look in daylight?  How much did you end up getting?  Ahhh, to be a kid again and run outside and build a snowman, have snowball fights, to make a snow fort, go sledding, or make a snow angel.   ;D

Enjoy your late January treat of snow - it won't last long.

Cheryl,

Awww shucks, sorry you lost power.  Do you lose power very much where you live?  We tend to lose power quite often with all the weather systems we have here - so , we kinda expect it.  We have a well for water - any time they predict bad weather I draw up a bunch of water to have for drinking, brushing teeth, etc. when the power goes out.  Did you and hubby have a cozy candlelight evening??  Do you have a fireplace?  I know, questions, questions, questions.   :D

Be careful on the ice - stay home if possible.  Be prepared for round two tonight.

Keep warm . . . .
Hugs,

Us West Virginians just rec'd some white stuff also. We were not suppose to get any. I just drove about 30 miles in it and it is nasty. About 6-7 accidents along the way. Only time I slid was after I got off the interstate. Scared me to death. By the time I got home I was shaking so bad I could hardly walk. I don't like anything about winter!!
I fixed my husband and I a cup of hot tea and I couldn't even carry it I was shaking so bad. I am in for the evening ;D

About the only kind thing I can say about it is.............................it's a beautiful sight, but BRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! it is COLD.   It acutally got up to 17 degrees today.   ;D

I'll stay in where it's warm and keep both of our dogs laying on my feet. ;D  They sure are nice and warm.

Well I have been in ALL day, the last thing I need is to fall! I am now wondering what kind of shoes I can put on tomorrow for church, ALL my boots have really high heels, except suede! I don't have anything for snow.

Our church will have service as  usual, but lei's just see how many come out, not many I think! Shoot if I didn't have to be there I wouldn't. Most of the main streets are open, but side streets? Forget about it, there is not enough equipment  to clean them, my husband said he saw them(City workers) out with something small you could rent from Lowes, he thought this was so funny! Well you have to keep in mind we don't get enough snow to really invest alot, they normally borrow from other cities, but this snow storm has covered most of TN. so every city needs their own. Shoot the lst time we got this much (4 inches or less) the city ran out of salt and was declaring a state of emergency!

The snow is pretty, BUT it does not need to stick around too much past tomorrow, I got things to do

Daytime? O.K but we are over it already, we've seen it and can say we had some, small children have at last seen snow, now we want our norm back!

Bernice - awww, you have snow for one little ole day and you want it to go away already??   :D  Try having it on and off for five months of the year!!  In regards to what kind of shoes you will wear to church tomorrow - wear the flattest ones you've got and put plastic bags around your feet to keep them dry.  Change your shoes once you get to church.

Be careful out there - especially if the temperature drops tonight, it will be icy in the morning.

Harlin & Pooh - be careful too!!  Did they forcast any snow or did you just wake up to a white Saturday this morning with no warning?  Driving in snow and ice is definitely not fun - scares me every time and I've grown up my whole life in snow country.

Bucky

Bucky, isn't that dangerous, too slippery? Am I misunderstanging something w/ the plastic bag?
Title: Re: Mother Nature at it again . . .
Post by: Bucky on January 30, 2010, 07:02:23 PM
Bernice - we've done it with plastic bags before when it wasn't snowing when we left in the morning and was snowing on the way home.  I've seen people do it lots of times.  Now, if it is icy - I'm not sure about that - but with just snow, it's fine.

As with all posts - this is just a suggestion, or comment that I have tried and used before . . . . . use your own judgement if this is something you want to try.

Earlier today on MSN.com there was a picture of someone with plastic bags on their feet when they got caught in the snow.  I don't know if the picture is still there or not.

Be careful.

No Bucky, I didn't just wake up with the snow.  When we went to bed the night before our local weatherman said it was making a right turn out into the Atlantic.  Uh Huh!  Along around noon it started and before it was finished we got around 5 inches.

We're use to snow, but nothing like you get.  I have no patience for these drivers from out of state that drive like snails.  I don't mean to speed in this mess, but come on.  They cause more problems than they avoid.

It's after midnight here and the plow just went up the road and back.  I guess we'll have a clear road in the morning.  So glad I don't have to go out anywhere.  Should go to church, but I'm sure the Man Up Stairs will forgive me if I don't.

Take care all of you who are in this frozen mess.  Be careful, we want to talk to you, not about you later.  ;D

Hugs, Pooh

Thanks Bucky, I'm sure it's icy out so I'm gonna pass on that suggestion cuz as I said I really do have a great dread of falling and Oh someone stepping on my ingrown toenails! But thanks anyway! Never thought of that, but I think I'm gonna sport a pair of tennis shoes.

Poochie, I spent many years in places where I had to get around in knee deep snow, BUT now? Well guess Ihave been home too long, have too much respect for these hills. Believe you me it's a world of a difference driving on flat land than a hill that you may or may not get up or may slid down faster than the car in front of you is moving, then add a sharp curve and nervous people who only see snow every 5-6 years! You better think twice before you touch that gas peddle or brakes!  :o ;D Give me flat or straight land and I too am unstopable.  ;)

when I woke up there was no snow and no forcast of snow. When I left home it was flurrying. By the time I got to Morgantown 30 miles away no snow. I was there about 2 hours and oh my gosh. Did it ever snow. I don't want to do that again. The worse snow I have ever been in. But "I did it" as my granddaughter would say. I was shaking so bad when I got home i didn't know if my knees would hold me up. To scarry for me.

Hello all you snowcovered people!!   :o  Here at my place in IL we have around 9" - it's drifted, so it's hard to tell the exact amount.

Yesterday and today the kids had school off.  Woohoo!  That makes the third snow day this school year.

Oh, and by the way . . . not only do we have snow, but this morning at 4 a.m. there was a 3.8 earthquake northwest of Chicago!!   :o  Now, I have felt an earthquake here in IL before, but this time I didn't feel it.  Some of the nearby towns say they did.  I live about three hours South of Chicago.

Weatherwise, it should be an interesting year.  Last fall we had so much rain the farmers were still harvesting their crops in December - they couldn't get into the fields.  Now, all this snow.  Wonder what kind of Spring and Summer we'll have?   ???

Never a dull moment with Mother Nature!!   ;D

Take care,

I have a former IL friend who now lives in South Carolina and she is thrilled that they have snow.   Perhaps I could give some of you her address if you wanted to send her some more??!!   ;D

Could be an interesting five more weeks until Spring.

:'( :'( Next week is Winter Break for Atlanta area schools... So what?  Our granddaughters (10&12) and daughter had planned to drive up today and spend a few days with us.

The grandkids kept asking if we had snow. Guess what? Atlanta had their own snow and squeals of delight could be heard as we talked with daughter last night and the granddaughters were running and hiding from their daddy who was throwing snowballs at them!!!!   SHUCKS... THEY?RE IN ATLANTA AND WE'RE IN FOOTHILLS OF SMOKY MTS AND NO SNOW ON GROUND HERE.

Now, sweet Bucky, you can keep all you got in IL as its due to start snowing here tomorrow night and snow some each day next week!!!

Positive thing about this forecast, at least I won't have to sit in bay window with  8) on to watch the birds... In other words, no sunshine in 'these here' hills for a while!!!!!  :'( NO GRANDDAUGHTERS, EITHER! :'(

Joy, you know it's really bad when the kids start complaining about the snow.  Our great grandsons were here last night and told me "Mimi I think we have enough snow, why does it have to snow more on Monday?"  He's 11 and he's sick of it.  His brother is 7 and he feels it was to much snow this time.  He said he couldn't even sled because it's so deep.  :(

I hope your granddaughter's had a really great time in it.  If they want they can come to PA and get some more. ;D

Take care all,

Hey Pooh, your grandsons don't tunnel?  Mmmmmm, shucks, that was the best part of snow when I was coming up, but then, there wasn't a whole lot to do otherwise (we had a tunnel city going one winter, connecting all the homes with kids.  The ones without, oh well, they didn't get the "shoveling".  ;) :)

Patze,
I remember tunnels and building snow forts, kind of like an igloo dug into a big drift...now parents would tell them it's not safe it could colapse on them...kids don't know how to have fun like we did! :Ds

This is so true! Kids don't know how to have fun. We were never in the house. Course mom probably wouldn't let us. We made our own fun. Snow forts and snowball fights.
We are just now getting pounded again. It is pouring again. 4-6 I think, We'll see if the weather man is right this time.  So far no go.

Ah, the snowball fights!!  There were legendary in the neighborhood, as they usually involved the whole neighborhood; good times.  ;D

What on earth is going on? It has snowed more this year than I ever recall, this is like the three snow day already. We woke to about a 1/2 to 1 inch of snow this morning! Just enough to remind us that it's still winter.

We will probably be in coats come Easter if this keeps up! :'( :'(

Well for those of us that don't normally have cold winters one blessing is this will kill off some of the bugs that only seem to multiply during the winter, like flies and etc.. Years past it did not get cold enough.
